Anthony Kim withdrew prior to his second round of the Wells Fargo Championship, citing an injury to his right wrist.

He was scheduled to go off the first tee at 7:50 a.m. ET. This is AK's third straight WD, and it's not a surprise. "I couldn’t be more disappointed to have to withdraw from this event," he said in a statement. "I've tried to play through the injuries but I know from experience that it will only make matters worse. I’m going to get it looked at and do what I need to do to get back to full health."

Zach Johnson completed 36 holes of The McGladrey Classic in 4-over-par 71-73=144 and missed the cut by four strokes.

The local resident was poised to cash, but he played his last eight holes in birdie-free 6-over with two bogeys and two doubles. Overall, he split 24 (of 28) fairways and hit 28 greens in regulation, but got loose at the wrong time. It's his first MC since the Travelers Championship, thus ending a modest consecutive cuts made streak at eight. It's also the first time that Johnson has opened the season with a missed cut since his rookie year of 2004. Other notables that failed to survive include: 141--2010 champ Heath Slocum; Harris English ... 142--local resident Jonathan Byrd ... 144--Padraig Harrington ... 146--Russell Knox; Scott Brown.

Lucas Glover reached the midpoint of The McGladrey Classic in even-par 73-67=140 to survive the cut on the number.

Not only was today's 3-under aggregate his lowest since a second-round 66 at the 2014 WM Phoenix Open, but Glover will cash for the first time anywhere in eight starts (Memorial). He split 10 (of 14) fairways and hit 16 greens in regulation at Seaside today. It was a stark reversal of his lid-lifter during which he went just 1-for-13 in birdie chances and squared four bogeys. He's one of 88 golfers that survived today's cut -- 22 on the number -- so a second cut of low 70 and ties will fall at the conclusion of 54 holes.

Overnight co-leader Michael Thompson failed to capitalize on his position and settled for a 1-over-par 37-34=71 in today's second round of The McGladrey Classic.

Thompson hit 12 greens in regulation and curled in four birdies, including conversions from 14'5", 20'8" and 12'10" at Nos. 1, 3 and 9, respectively. He also hit the putting surface with his tee ball at the par-3 17th hole, but took four whacks from 39'4" and swallow a double bogey. The distance to the hole of his third putt (4'5") was longer than his second (2'11"). At 4-under 136, he's suddenly five swing adrift of 36-hole leader Russell Henley.

Russell Henley blistered Sea Island Resort's Seaside Course for a 7-under-par 33-30=63 in his second round of The McGladrey Classic to assume outright possession of the 36-hole clubhouse lead at 9-under 131.

Henley missed only two (of 14) fairways and went 8-for-15 in birdie opportunities. Five of those conversions dropped in from outside 11 feet, the longest measuring 20 feet at the par-3 sixth. His only blemish occurred at the par-4 10th where he began his walk. His approach into the green came to rest well left of it and he'd settle for bogey. Today's score matches his career low on the PGA TOUR. He spun all of the first three en route to his breakthrough victory at the 2013 Sony Open in Hawaii.

In his first round in over five months, Mark Anderson shot an even-par 35-35=70 on Thursday at The McGladrey Classic.

Back from an injury to his right ankle due to a fall off a ladder, Anderson couldn't have asked for a more exciting day. After opening par-par, he holed his tee ball from 212 yards at the par-3 third. He'd go on to incur four bogeys in a six-hole stretch beginning at the par-4 eighth -- two were as a result of three-putts -- but birdies at 15 and 16 helped ease the sting and avert an over-par score. Overall, Anderson split 10 (of 14) fairways and hit 12 greens in regulation, fair numbers given his competitive layoff.
Oct 23 - 6:56 PM

Will MacKenzie totaled a field-high seven birdies en route to a 5-under-par 34-31=65 in his opening round of The McGladrey Classic, finishing with a share of the clubhouse lead.

MacKenzie was the fourth to 65 today, but he was the first from the afternoon wave. He birdied both par 5s and five par 4s. His longest conversion measured 20'11" for birdie at No. 18, his ninth hole of the round. The fireworks were set up by 13 (of 14) fairways hit and 15 greens in regulation. His only blemish occurred at the par-4 16th where he found trouble off the tee and took a penalty before penciling in a 6. MacKenzie is making his season debut this week. After a sparkling first half of 2013-14, he concluded the campaign 3-for-14 with no top 25s.

Aaron Baddeley toured Sea Island Resort's Seaside Course in 3-under-par 32-35=67 in his opening round of The McGladrey Classic and finished two strokes off the clubhouse lead.

Badds recorded six red numbers in his first two starts, but he placed outside the top 30 in both. He's evolved into a serviceable own over the years, but probably comes across as an underachiever to the masses. Today was quite something, however, as he converted two eagle-3s. The first was a bit unexpected as he holed out from 14 yards from a lie off the green at the seventh hole. The second was a traditional conversion at No. 15, this time from 43'2". Elsewhere, the Aussie traded one birdie with two bogeys. Today's aggregate is his lowest in a first round since he carded the same en route to a solo fourth-place finish at the Travelers Championship in June.
Oct 23 - 2:54 PM

With a 4-under-par 32-34=66 in his opening round of The McGladrey Classic, Andrew Svoboda is one stroke in arrears of the clubhouse leaders.

Svoboda faded to finish T18 with a closing 73 in Las Vegas this week, but he's already turned the page. He opened with seven pars, including a 12-and-a-half-footer at the par-4 first. He then buried a birdie look from 22 feet at No. 8. After striping his drive at the par-4 ninth, he jarred his approach from 172 yards for eagle. Feeding off this run, Svoboda piled on with another birdie at 10, this time from 15'11". Overall, he split 11 (of 14) fairways, hit 14 greens and suffered just one bogey.
Oct 23 - 2:45 PM

Erik Compton spun a 5-under-par 32-33=65 in his opening round of The McGladrey Classic to snare a share of the clubhouse lead.

Compton opened with a birdie from 15'1" at the par-4 first hole to set the tone. He birdied the par-4 second from 31-and-a-half feet and added four more, including a 11'1" conversion at the par-4 16th. His only miscue was a bogey at the par-4 14th. Overall, he split 11 (of 14) fairways and hit 15 greens in regulation. At last check, he ranked second in the field in strokes gained: putting with a clip of 3.373.
Oct 23 - 1:59 PM

Michael Thompson enjoyed a 5-under-par 33-32=65 in his opening round of The McGladrey Classic, good for a share of the clubhouse lead.

Thompson doesn't make noise often, but he's downright automatic at Seaside where he's finished third (2011) and T10 (2012). He opened both of those editions also with a 65. Today's featured six birdies against a bogey-6 at the 15th hole. Four of his par breakers dropped in from outside 10 feet, including rolls from 19'11" and 40'5" at Nos. 8 and 11, respectively. Given the he entered this week 1-for-5 with a T64 at Sedgefield in August, there no question that he's a horse for this week's course.
Oct 23 - 1:22 PM

Brian Harman opened The McGladrey Classic with a 5-under-par 34-31=65 to establish the early clubhouse lead.

The lefty is making his first start of the season. He didn't waste any time in finding form by splitting 10 (of 14) fairways and hitting 14 greens in regulation. Harman on six opportunities, all for birdies, including rolls of 14'10", 21'7" and 20'3" at Nos. 3, 4 and 8 on his inward nine. This is his lowest aggregate since a third-round 65 en route to his breakthrough victory at the John Deere Classic in July.
