Snedeker bogey-free thru 36 holes at Lytham

Brandt Snedeker chased his opening 66 with a bogey-free, 6-under-par 30-34=64 in his second round to set the 36-hole clubhouse lead at 10-under 130.

Snedeker split nine (of 14) fairways and hit 15 greens in in regulation in today's loop of Royal Lytham & St. Annes, dropping in six birdies along the way, three on par 3s. Through two rounds, he's found 17 (of 28) fairways and hit 31 GIR. He's circled 10 birdies, including four on the two par 5s. Today's 64 matches the course record and his opening aggregate ties the all-time mark at the midpoint (Nick Faldo, Muirfield, 1992).

Karlsson takes 14 more shots in 2nd round; MC

Robert Karlsson followed his opening 64 at the HP Byron Nelson Championship with an 8-over-par 41-37=78 to reach the midpoint in 2-over 142, two strokes too high to play the weekend.

Talk about a stunning turn of events. Just when the tall Swede appeared to have everything under control, the golf gods decided otherwise. He hit just eight greens in regulation today and converted one birdie. Elsewhere, he swallowed six bogeys and a triple bogey-7 at the par-4 11th hole where he rinsed his tee ball and didn't find the green until his fifth stroke. Karlsson will attempt to get back on the horse at next week's Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. He tied for fifth in his only appearance in Fort Worth in 2011.

Stuard finally ends drought; MDF cut coming

Brian Stuard reached the midpoint of the HP Byron Nelson Championship in even-par 71-69=140 to survive the cut on the number.

Stuard hit 30 greens in regulation at TPC Four Seasons over his first 36 holes, but offset six birdies with four bogeys and a double. While he puts an 0-for-5 slide to an end, his work isn't done. Because 83 golfers made the cut, a second cut of low 70 and ties will fall at the conclusion of 54 holes. Others sneaking inside the bubble at 140 include defending champion Jason Dufner; 2010 winner Jason Day; 2009 champ Rory Sabbatini; Padraig Harrington; and 52-year-old Kenny Perry, who admitted on Golf Channel this week that he didn't know that he was still fully exempt on the PGA TOUR. Clearly, the senior doesn't read Rotoworld where we always keep up on status.

Keegan Bradley cools but maintains comfy lead

Overnight leader Keegan Bradley answered his opening 60 at the HP Byron Nelson Championship with a 1-under-par 35-34=69 in his second round to post the 36-hole clubhouse lead at 11-under 129.

Consider this the nth exhibit in the case against being able to go low in consecutive rounds. Bradley hit 13 greens in regulation and circled four birdies today, but none longer than his 9'1" conversion at the 10th hole. He also squared three bogeys. This included 5s at Nos. 1 and 18 for the second straight today. Both greens served as the only sites of his misses under 12 feet today, but both attempts were from inside seven feet. He signed his card sitting three strokes clear of Tom Gillis and Sang-moon Bae entering Saturday's third round.

Report: Hall of Famer Venturi has passed away

Ron Kroichick of the San Francisco Chronicle alerted his followers on Twitter that Ken Venturi has died.

Kroichick tweeted: "Sad news from world of golf: SF native Ken Venturi, the 1964 U.S. Open champion and longtime CBS analyst, has died at age 82. #golf #RIP" Venturi was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame last week. He was unable to attend the ceremony due to his declining health. He won 14 events on the PGA TOUR, including the sweltering U.S. Open at Congressional. He was also a long-time analyst for CBS.

Guan Tianlang misses his first PGA TOUR cut

Guan Tianlang reached the midpoint of the HP Byron Nelson Championship in 7-over-par 70-77=147 and will miss the cut.

The streak ends at two. The 14-year-old finally showed that he's human. After a tidy opener in which he traded two birdies with two bogeys, he hit just 10 greens in regulation in the second round en route to five bogeys -- all consecutively beginning at the 14th hole -- and two doubles. His lone highlight among today's pair of birdies was a conversion from 18'9" at the par-3 13th hole.

Jobe misses cut; exhausts his Major Medical

Brandt Jobe completed 36 hole of the HP Byron Nelson Championship in 4-over-par 70-74=144 and will miss the cut.

He hit 26 greens in regulation but managed just one eagle and two birdies while swallowing eight birdies. This was his final start via a Major Medical Extension. To retain even conditional status, he would have needed to finish no worse than in two-way share of 74th place. Instead, he'll tumble into the Beyond 150 Reshuffle where his Veteran Membership will provide a handful of starts in the largest fields.

J. Day ties personal high at TPC Four Seasons

Jason Day settled for a 2-over-par 34-38=72 in his opening round of the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Easily one of the favorites at TPC Four Seasons where he's recorded his only PGA TOUR victory (2010) and finished no lower than T9 (2012), the Aussie hit 13 greens in regulation today and converted three early birdies, but played his last 11 holes in birdie-free 5-over. He made a mess of the par-4 eighth en route to a double bogey before fanning on a pair of par attempts inside seven feet at Nos. 14 and 15. His last bogey was as a result of flying the green at the par-3 17th hole. Now, he's carded exactly one 72 in each of his three previous appearances (solo fifth, 2011), but there's no guarantee that he'll reel in another top 10 on a track where he's already 12 shots in arrears of the clubhouse leader.

Eagle hole-out accents C. Villegas' opener

Camilo Villegas posted a 5-under-par 34-31=65 in his opening round of the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

The Colombian has grinded out a decent season despite conditional status. He's just 4-for-10 entering the week, but that slate includes three top 20s. He's 136th in FedExCup points. Villegas went 0-for-3 in scrambling at TPC Four Seasons today, but offset two bogeys and a double with seven birdies and an eagle hole-out from 95 yards at the par-5 16th. Three of his birdies fell in from 11 feet and beyond, the longest measuring 23'7" at 13. The last time he opened this low was at The Honda Classic, but he chased a first-round 64 with a 77 to miss the cut.

K. Bradley cards course-record 60 at HPBNC

Keegan Bradley torched TPC Four Seasons for a course-record, 10-under-par 31-29=60 in his opening round of the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

And that included two bogeys! Bradley entered the week having missed his last two cuts, so today's effort is a welcome return to form and then some. Under the lift, clean and place provision, he split nine (of 14) fairways and hit 15 greens. Starting on the back side, he birdied 11, 12, 13, 15 and 16 before swallowing a bogey at the par-4 18th. He then bogeyed the par-4 first from a fairway bunker before nearly running the table on the way in. His par breakers thereafter included an eagle-3 at No. 7 and birdies at 2, 4, 5, 8 and 9. His eagle and four of his birdies dropped in from outside 10 feet; the highlight was a 14-yard hole-out at the par-4 15th. It's the first course record of 2013 and the 28th 60 in PGA TOUR history. The previous course record at TPC Four Seasons was a 61 shared by four golfers, most recently by Cameron Beckman in 2010.

Louis Oosthuizen may not play the U.S. Open

Louis Oosthuizen announced today in his presser at the HP Byron Nelson Championship that he may not compete in the U.S. Open on June 13-16 because his wife is scheduled to delivered the couple's third child that week.

"At the moment, the U.S. Open is going to be a miss for me because the baby is due then," Oosthuizen said, referring to the due date of June 15. He added that he would tee it up at Merion if the baby arrives the previous week. For now, he'll enjoy a four-event stretch in as many weeks ending at the Memorial at the end of this month. He missed the cut in his debut at the HP Byron Nelson Championship last year.

Faldo to compete in The Open Championship

Nick Faldo is planning to tee it up at The Open Championship on July 18-21.

Faldo will turn 56 years of age the same day as the opening round. He hasn't played a PGA TOUR event since missing the cut at St. Andrews in 2010. He hasn't survived a cut in 2006, and he's just 2-for-2 on the Champions Tour, electing to devote his time to other ventures including his broadcasting. "I’ve been fighting it for years," he told CNN. "I was in the gym (last) Monday, and it suddenly just hit me. I thought, ‘Come on, this is one more walk,’ and I’ll probably never get a chance to walk at Muirfield."
