Past champ K.J. Choi and World No. 1185 Charlie Wi smoothed a bogey-free 8-under-par 32-32=64 in the second round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans to reach the midpoint on 13-under 131, currently T3 on the leaderboard and two adrift of clubhouse leaders Jonas Blixt and Cameron Smith.
Choi won this event in 2002 (English Turn G&CC), his first of eight TOUR wins. Wi, who has no status on TOUR, was runner-up at the current venue in 2009, and is making just his second start of the season (T57, Sanderson Farms). After an opening 67 (alternate shot), the pairing began T3, and one back, and maintained their position on the board, circling eight birdies, with Choi providing the bulk of that carding six. Wi birdied Nos. 8 and 16, the latter from 14'3", while Choi circled 1, 2, 6, 11, 13 and 17, all six from between six and 24 feet, with a long of 23'3" at the par-4 sixth.
