Jason Dufner completed 54 holes of the Humana Challenge in 6-under-par 76-65-69=210, missing the cut by two strokes.

Seventy-two golfers survived at 8-under 208 or lower, so all will play the final round at PGA West's Palmer Private. Shawn Stefani torched PGA West's Nicklaus Private for a bogey-free, 9-under-par 32-31=63 in his third round of the Humana Challenge.

If not for an opening 75 at Palmer Private at PGA West, Stefani might be in the mix for his first PGA TOUR title this week. His 6-under 66 at La Quinta Country Club on Friday included a hole-in-one on the par-3 third hole, his 12th of the round. Today, he piped 12 (of 14) fairways and hit 17 greens in regulation en route to an eagle (at the par-5 16th) and seven birdies. The 63 goes in the books as his career low on TOUR; this is his 47th start. At 12-under 204, Stefani is in a 10-way tie for 24th place five strokes off the pace of the overnight quad-leaders.

Michael Putnam bends but doesn't break with a 3-under-par 35-34=69 at La Quinta Country Club to grab a share of the 54-hole clubhouse lead at 17-under 199.

Putnam found just 12 greens in regulation on the day but minimized the damage to just one bogey. Three of his last four Humana rounds have now been signed for 67 or better. Given the logjam at the top, Putnam will need another sub-68 if he wants to contend for his first PGA TOUR title.

Justin Thomas spun a 4-under-par 34-34=68 at PGA West's Palmer Private, grabbing a share of the current 54-hole clubhouse lead at 17-under 199.

The youngster out of the University of Alabama continues to impress during his rookie season. He found 13 greens in regulation on the day, converting six into birdies. Thomas is in great position for a third top 10 of the season and a chance to grab his first PGA TOUR title. Gamers should continue to back him while the iron is hot.

Bill Haas settled for a 3-under-par 35-34=69 at Nicklaus Private at PGA West, reaching the 54-hole mark of the Humana Challenge with a share of the current clubhouse lead at 17-under 199.

After 46 holes of blemish-free golf, Haas finally squared his first bogey of the tournament at the par-3 11th hole. The Wake Forest product hit 16 greens in regulation but his putter's conversion rate held him back to just four birdies on the day. He now has seven straight Humana rounds of 67 or better. It is unlikely Haas will enter Sunday with the clubhouse lead still intact but he will surely be one of the favorites to take home the hardware.

Erik Compton constructed a bogey-free, 5-under-par 35-32=67 in his third round of the Humana Challenge at PGA West's Nicklaus Private.

Compton has learned the intricacies of these courses and it shows as he now has three straight rounds of 66 or better. Entering the week, he had just one sub-67 in 11 career Humana rounds. Compton was resilient today as he converted a meager six (of 14) fairways hit into 12 greens in regulation. He will enter Sunday at 17-under 199 with a great chance to pick off his maiden PGA TOUR victory.

Ryan Moore withdrew from the Humana Challenge before today's third round, citing a neck injury.

He was scheduled to go off the 10th tee at PGA West's Nicklaus Private at 9:10 a.m. PT. Moore opened with a 3-under 72 at Palmer Private at PGA West, but blew up for a 5-over 77 at La Quinta Country Club in the second round. If he's able, he'll try again at next week's Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Branden Grace confirmed his reputation as one of the European Tour's best closers by carding a 6-under-par 35-31=66 to win the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.

Grace conjured a back-nine 31 to get to 19-under 269 and edge out Scotland's Marc Warren by a shot. With four players tied at the top on 13-under at start of play, the lead was always going to change multiple times in Saturday's final round. It looked as if Grace hadn't come to the party when he followed an opening birdie with 10 straight pars to fall behind. But he birdied 12 and 14 to move back into a tie for the lead and then kicked two clear with a brilliant eagle two at the 16th. Playing in the group behind, Warren caught him with birdies at 16 and 17 but Grace had one last thrust of the sword -- a superb wedge at the last that banked a closing par breaker. Warren couldn't match it, leaving Grace to claim his second title of the 2015 season and sixth European Tour win in total. The 26-year-old is now exempt into the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational for the fourth consecutive time.

Kevin Stadler is not listed in the published field of next week's Waste Management Phoenix Open.

This is a shame. You never want to see a defending champion have to sit out due to injury, much less a guy that has just the one PGA TOUR title. However, Stadler's stress fracture in his right hand must be significant enough to warrant the decision. Given this news, it could be a while before we see him inside the ropes again.

Ryan Palmer equaled the course record at PGA West's Nicklaus Private with an 11-under-par 27-34=61 in his second round of the Humana Challenge.

It's the fourth 61 since Charlie Wi first hung it up in 2009. It's also Palmer career low on the PGA TOUR; this is his 298th start. After pars at 10 and 11, he went on a record-setting tear. After holing out for eagle at the par-4 12th, he birdied 13, 14 and 15. Another eagle ensued at the par-5 16th. He chased that with three more birdies. The magic ended with bogeys at Nos. 1 and 2. He played his last six holes in 3-under with three birdies. His run of 10-under through eight holes broke the old eagle-birdie streak by one stroke. (Billy Mayfair [2001 Buick Open] and Briny Baird [2003 FUNAI Classic] scored 9-under with an eagle and seven birdies each.) Palmer's stretch of eight consecutive par breakers fell one short of Mark Calcavecchia's record of nine straight (all birdies) at the 2009 RBC Canadian Open. Palmer is 12-under through 36 holes, just three strokes off the overnight lead. He'll conclude his rotation at PGA West's Palmer Private on Saturday.
Jan 23 - 6:47 PM

Matt Kuchar chased his opening 65 at the Humana Challenge with an 8-under-par 31-33=64 in today's second round at PGA West's Nicklaus Private to set the 36-hole lead at 15-under 129.

He did what he needed to do on the easiest track on the PGA TOUR. Kuchar split 11 (of 14) fairways and hit 15 greens in regulation today. He buried birdies on five of his first seven holes (on the back side of the course), and then sandwiched an eagle-3 at the fourth hole with birdies at 1 and 8. His only gaffe was a bogey at the par-4 sixth. At the time he signed his card, he led the field with 15 birdies with the eagle kicker. Kuchar will complete his rotation at Palmer Private at PGA West on Saturday.
