Jorge De La Rosa will have Tommy John surgery soon to repair a completely torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow.

We assumed Tommy John was in De La Rosa's future, and now it's official. The Rockies and De La Rosa will meet Wednesday to discuss a date for the procedure, but since he has limited swelling, it's likely to occur soon. He'll miss the remainder of the 2011 season and be sidelined well into 2012, as well. Greg Reynolds will start on Saturday, with Jhoulys Chacin moving up a day to start Sunday in De La Rosa's place. Aaron Cook should be ready to assume the spot after that.

Jason Heyward (groin) is not in the Cardinals' lineup Monday.

Heyward tweaked his left groin while chasing down a ball in the corner on Sunday. The ailment isn't considered serious, but he'll receive at least one day of rest. Mark Reynolds is getting a start in right field in Heyward's place.
Apr 27 - 4:49 PM

Yadier Molina (knee) is back in the Cardinals' lineup Monday.

Molina sat out the previous two games after taking a foul tip off his right knee. The All-Star catcher sports a .294/.345/.373 batting line in the early going this season.
Apr 27 - 4:44 PM

Alex Colome (illness) will rejoin the Rays' rotation this weekend in Baltimore.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times suggests that Friday would be the most likely day. Colome got a late start to spring training due to a visa issue and then went down with pneumonia, but he's healthy now and spun six innings of one-run ball Sunday at Triple-A Durham. The young right-hander is worth a look in deeper mixed leagues.
Apr 27 - 4:18 PM

Trevor Bauer (illness) will return to the Indians' rotation Tuesday against the Royals.

Bauer had to be scratched Saturday due to food poisoning, but he felt well enough to play catch on Sunday. The 24-year-old boasts a 0.95 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 26/11 K/BB ratio in 19 innings this season and showed improved control in his most recent outing. He's a must-own in all mixed fantasy leagues.
Apr 27 - 3:57 PM

Rangers acquired OF Josh Hamilton from the Angels for cash considerations.

The deal was officially announced by the Angels' Twitter account on Monday afternoon. Anaheim is expected to eat $68 million of the $80 million still owed to Hamilton from his original five-year, $125 million agreement with the club. He'll get a fresh restart in Texas after a falling out with the Angels brought on by his offseason alcohol and cocaine relapse. Hamilton is expected to be recovered from shoulder surgery in mid- to late-May and carries considerably more fantasy value with the Rangers than he would have with the Halos.
Apr 27 - 3:35 PM

Alex Rodriguez is starting at third base for the Yankees on Monday night versus the Rays.

It's his second start of the season at the hot corner. A-Rod has been among the most productive players in baseball in the early going this year, boasting a .989 OPS with five home runs, 13 RBI, and 13 runs scored in 18 games for the Yankees. He's one home run away from tying Willie Mays on the all-time leaderboard.
Apr 27 - 3:33 PM

Marlins activated C Jarrod Saltalamacchia from the paternity leave list; designated him for assignment.

Salty was signed to a three-year, $21 million free agent contract before the 2014 season, but he struggled in his first summer with Miami and was off to a terrible start in 2015. 24-year-old prospect J.T. Realmuto has emerged as the Marlins' best option at catcher. Salty will presumably pass through waivers because of the money he is owed. He would then hit the free agent market, and should draw considerable interest there.
Apr 27 - 3:22 PM

Alexei Ramirez is not in the White Sox starting lineup Monday versus the Orioles.

It's just a day of rest for Ramirez. Gordon Beckham is starting at shortstop and Conor Gillaspie is playing third base Monday against O's righty Ubaldo Jimenez.
Apr 27 - 3:14 PM

Jake McGee (elbow) is due to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with High-A Charlotte.

McGee was originally slated to join Charlotte on Monday, but the Rays wanted to see a couple more bullpen sessions from the left-hander, who's coming off December elbow surgery. He's now trending toward an early-May debut, and the talented 28-year-old should move back into Tampa Bay's ninth-inning gig rather quickly. McGee posted a 1.89 ERA in 71 1/3 innings last season.
Apr 27 - 3:08 PM

Devin Mesoraco (hip) is out of the Reds' starting lineup again on Monday.

Mesoraco drew a walk as a pinch-hitter on Sunday, but he still isn't able to catch due to a lingering left hip impingement. The 26-year-old slugger has logged just three at-bats since April 12, yet the Reds have refused to place him on the disabled list. Brayan Pena is starting behind the plate on Monday night against the Brewers.
Apr 27 - 3:03 PM

Jarrod Dyson is starting in right field for the Royals on Monday night against the Indians.

Dyson will bat ninth, but his speed should attract daily leaguers. The 30-year-old speedster is among the most aggressive base-stealer in the majors, boasting 120 steals in 361 career games (235 starts). Paulo Orlando will be on the bench Monday night.
