Red Sox signed INF Mauro Gomez to a minor league contract.

Gomez posted a promising .304/.356/.522 batting line with 34 doubles, 24 homers and 90 RBI in 135 games last year at Triple-A Gwinnett. But the 27-year-old infielder is doubtful to climb to the major leagues with Boston.

Ryan Braun exited Monday's game against the Reds with a bruised foot.

It had seemed like Braun might just be getting some rest after the Brewers had built up a big lead, but apparently he was sore after fouling a couple balls off his foot. He had X-rays, which came back negative. Braun is day-to-day.

Miguel Gonzalez allowed just one unearned run over eight innings Monday as the White Sox routed the Royals 12-1.

Kansas City's only run came in the top of the third, when Whit Merrifield reached on a Todd Frazier fielding error and scored moments later on a Mike Moustakas double. Gonzalez allowed just two total hits and one walk while striking out five as he moved to 3-0 with a 2.00 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and 20/8 K/BB ratio in 27 innings this season. We'll see if he has another eight innings in him next time out against the Tigers. Even with the hot start, he makes for a poor fantasy streaming option.

Matt Davidson went 3-for-4 with four RBI as the White Sox dominated the Royals on Monday.

Davidson hit a solo homer off Jason Vargas in the bottom of the second inning and he had both an RBI double and a two-run single in Chicago's eight-run sixth inning. The 26-year-old former top prospect filled in well at third base when Todd Frazier was battling the flu and he should continue to see more turns at DH, which is where he started and finished the game Monday night.

Brad Brach nailed down his fourth save Monday in the Orioles' 6-3 win over the Rays.

Brach worked a scoreless ninth inning with a walk and a strikeout after a short rain delay at Camden Yards. He has yet to allow a run in 2017, with a 0.50 WHIP and 13 strikeouts in 10 innings. The 31-year-old right-hander looks like the clear frontrunner for save opportunities in Baltimore with Zach Britton (forearm) sidelined, though Darren O'Day is also in the mix.

Jason Heyward hit a three-run homer and finished with four total RBI in the Cubs' 14-3 rout of the Pirates on Monday.

Heyward took Chad Kuhl deep to right-center in the Cubs' four-run first inning and drove in Ben Zobrist on a groundout in the Cubs' five-run second. Heyward is now batting .294/.342/.456 with three home runs and 16 RBI in 18 games this season. It took him until May 25 last year to reach 16 RBI.

Devin Mesoraco (hip, shoulder) is set to be activated from the disabled list on Friday.

Mesoraco will have used the full 20-day allotment on his rehab assignment as he builds up his stamina in game action following two seasons sabotaged by hip and shoulder surgeries. He batted only .175/.283/.275 with one home run over 46 plate appearances so far for Double-A Pensacola and will split playing time at catcher with Tucker Barnhart, so Mesoraco doesn't figure to make a big fantasy impact right away. However, he should get more and more starts if he holds up physically, and the talent has certainly been there in the past.

Dodgers placed OF Joc Pederson on the 10-day disabled list with a right groin strain.

Pederson hurt himself during Sunday's game in Arizona while lunging for first base in an attempt to beat out a grounder. It's unclear at this point how long he's expected to be sidelined. Enrique Hernandez is in center field Monday and will see more starts there with Pederson out, but the Dodgers figure to mix and match with a few players.

Denard Span (shoulder) is expected to be out of action for 2-4 more days.

Span injured his right shoulder on Saturday when he crashed into the outfield wall, and he's sat out the next two contests. It sounds like he'll need a few more additional days of rest, but the Giants are optimistic he can avoid a stint on the disabled list. Drew Stubbs is in center field Monday.
Apr 24 - 7:58 PM

Shelby Miller (elbow) will receive a second opinion on his ailing right elbow from Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

Miller went on the disabled list Monday with what the Diamondbacks are calling right elbow inflammation for now. However, manager Torey Lovullo wouldn't comment when asked if there was anything wrong with Miller's ligament, which could be an ominous sign. We should know more later this week. Archie Bradley is an option to take Miller's spot in the rotation, although the D'Backs are considering keeping him in the bullpen given his success there.

J.P. Hoornstra of the Southern California News Group reports that Julio Urias will be recalled to start Thursday against the Giants.

The signs had been pointing to this week being when Urias makes his season debut for the Dodgers. Slotting him in on Thursday will allow the club to give the struggling Kenta Maeda a little extra rest. Urias posted a 1.93 ERA and 15/9 K/BB ratio over 14 innings in his three starts for Triple-A Oklahoma City. The left-hander faces workload limits and can have control issues, but the upside here is obviously sky-high.

Giants purchased the contract of INF Christian Arroyo from Triple-A Sacramento.

The Giants are 6-13 and reeling from the loss of Madison Bumgarner, so they're taking a shot that Arroyo might be able to provide a spark. A first-round pick in the 2013 Draft, Arroyo had a disappointing 2016 at the Double-A level but has been on fire this year at Sacramento, batting .446/.478/.692 with three homers, 12 RBI and two stolen bases. He is batting sixth Monday in his major league debut and will take over as the team's everyday third baseman, with Eduardo Nunez moving to left field. Arroyo might add something to San Francisco's offense, but the 21-year-old's skill set might not lead to much fantasy value, at least not right away.
