Hanley has 'nothing to say' on move to 3B

Asked Thursday whether he's comfortable moving to third base to accommodate new shortstop Jose Reyes, Hanley Ramirez responded: "I have nothing to say."

Marlins skipper Ozzie Guillen confirmed earlier this week that Ramirez is still unhappy about the position change. The thought (or, rather, hope) is that Hanley will come around to it by the start of the regular season. "I expect him to be 100 percent on board with this move when we play St. Louis (on Opening Night)," Guillen told reporters on Tuesday. "Right now, just let it be, man."

Phils place Rollins on paternity leave list

Phillies placed SS Jimmy Rollins on the paternity leave list.

Rollins was out of the lineup on Monday after his wife gave birth to their first child on Sunday. A player can be on the paternity leave list for 24 to 72 hours. Freddy Galvis and Mike Fontenot will handle middle infield duties for now.

Mat Gamel undergoes surgery on torn ACL

Mat Gamel underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a torn ACL in his right knee.

Gamel also had surgery to repair a debridement of the lateral meniscus. He will miss the rest of the season. Travis Ishikawa, Taylor Green, Corey Hart and Brooks Conrad have all seen time at first base since his injury and the Brewers could eventually go outside the organization for a more stable solution.

Red Sox to call up OF Podsednik from minors

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Red Sox have called up outfielder Scott Podsednik from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Not a big surprise, as both Cody Ross (foot) and Ryan Sweeney (concussion) are expected to be placed on the disabled list Tuesday. Podsednik, who was acquired from the Phillies earlier this month, is hitting .323 (10-for-31) with one homer and two stolen bases over his first nine games with the PawSox. The 36-year-old outfielder hasn't appeared in the majors since 2010 as a member of the Dodgers.

Twins designate Jason Marquis for assignment

Twins designated RHP Jason Marquis for assignment.

As expected. The Twins signed Marquis to a one-year, $3 million contract over the winter, but he's getting the boot after posting an awful 8.47 ERA through his first seven starts this season. However, we suspect he won't have any trouble finding a new home once he's available at the league minimum. Cole DeVries will be called up from Triple-A Rochester to replace him in the starting rotation.

Daniel Hudson (shoulder) makes rehab start

Daniel Hudson (shoulder) allowed two runs over five innings Monday in a minor league rehab start with Triple-A Reno.

Hudson allowed five hits while striking out two and walking one. Barring any setbacks, he should rejoin the Diamondbacks' rotation this weekend against the Brewers. The 24-year-old right-hander has been on the disabled list for a month due to a right shoulder impingement.

Braun exits game with right groin tightness

Ryan Braun left Monday's game against the Giants with right groin tightness.

Braun limped off the field after grounding out to end the 10th inning and was replaced by Nyjer Morgan in left field to begin the 11th. It was initially speculated that he may have tweaked his nagging Achilles injury, but it's a different issue altogether. We'll likely hear more on his status after the game.

Sweeney (concussion) could go on 7-day DL

Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said Monday night that Ryan Sweeney did not pass his concussion test.

Nothing official from the team yet, but it's very likely that Sweeney is placed on the special 7-day disabled list for concussions. The 27-year-old outfielder suffered whiplash as a result of making a diving catch during Saturday's game.

Chapman arrested for driving w/ susp. license

Aroldis Chapman was arrested Monday in Grove City, Ohio after driving 93 mph on a suspended license.

Chapman was pulled over after he was recorded speeding while driving his black 2010 Mercedes S63. The Cuban left-hander was then arrested after the officer discovered he had a suspended Kentucky driver's license. He was released after posting bond and is expected to appear in court on June 6. The Reds have yet to issue a comment on the matter.

Nationals considering closer-by-committee

Nationals manager Davey Johnson indicated Monday that he is considering using a closer-by-committee moving forward.

Johnson has stood behind Henry Rodriguez throughout his recent struggles, but he's on the verge of making a change after pulling him from a save opportunity Monday night against the Phillies. "I'm going to sleep on it, but I'm looking at other alternatives," said Johnson. We still think Rodriguez will get some chances, but Craig Stammen, Sean Burnett and Tyler Clippard will also be thrown into the mix. It's not an ideal situation for fantasy owners.

Stanton launches grand slam in comeback win

Giancarlo Stanton belted a grand slam in Monday's comeback win over the Rockies.

The Rockies got out to a 4-0 first-inning lead, but the Marlins turned it on in the five-run fourth inning, capped off by the Stanton blast. The 22-year-old now has eight bombs this month after hitting just one out in April.

Ramirez (wrist) returns to lineup at Triple-A

Manny Ramirez (wrist) went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and a walk Monday in his return to action with Triple-A Sacramento.

Man-Ram was scratched from Sunday's lineup with a sore left wrist, but it's not a major concern. If all goes according to plan, he'll be added to the Athletics' roster as soon as his 50-game suspension is up on May 30.
