Andrew Bailey (lat) threw a bullpen session Thursday.

Bailey had been limited to flat-ground work since suffering a minor lat pull last weekend. The 27-year-old should have no problem playing catch-up this month and readying himself for the start of the 2012 regular season. He's a superb fantasy option at closer this year.

Christian Yelich (hip) said Wednesday that he expects to avoid the disabled list.

Yelich exited Tuesday's game with right hip flexor tightness and he is not in the Marlins' starting lineup Wednesday afternoon in Oakland, but the issue is not believed to be serious. Marlins president Michael Hill echoed Yelich's optimism. Consider the center fielder day-to-day.

Avisail Garcia (flu) is back in the White Sox starting lineup Wednesday afternoon in Arizona.

He'll start in right field and bat fifth against Diamondbacks right-hander Randall Delgado after missing Tuesday's game with a mild case of the flu. Garcia boasts a .971 OPS with eight home runs and 34 RBI over 43 games this season for Chicago.
May 24 - 1:40 PM

Yonder Alonso (wrist) is out of the Athletics' starting lineup Wednesday afternoon against the Marlins.

Alonso suffered a bruised right wrist Tuesday when he was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning. X-rays turned up negative and he will probably be available off the bench for the A's in their series finale versus the Fish. Ryon Healy is starting at first base and Khris Davis is serving as Oakland's designated hitter on Wednesday.
May 24 - 1:17 PM

Howie Kendrick (oblique) is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment Wednesday with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Kendrick received clearance to play in minor league games after taking outdoor batting practice on Tuesday at Citizens Bank Park. He's been out since April 15, so the Phillies will probably have him stay at Triple-A through the weekend to get properly tuned up. Kendrick was batting .333/.395/.487 over his first 43 plate appearances this season with the Phils. The versatile veteran should get something close to everyday playing time when he returns.

Blue Jays placed OF Anthony Alford on the 10-day disabled list with a left hamate fracture.

That's an injury that usually requires 4-6 weeks of rest and rehab, sometimes much longer. Alford was just promoted to Toronto last Friday and collected his first major league hit -- a double -- on Tuesday night at Miller Park. Unfortunately for the last-place Blue Jays, the 22-year-old top outfield prospect will rack up service time while he is on the MLB disabled list.
May 24 - 11:21 AM

Ryan Braun is out of the Brewers' starting lineup Wednesday afternoon against the Blue Jays.

Braun has gone 0-for-8 since returning May 21 from his left calf strain. Hernan Perez will start in left field and bat third on Wednesday versus Blue Jays right-hander Marcus Stroman.
May 24 - 9:53 AM

Joc Pederson was diagnosed with a neck strain following Tuesday night's outfield collision with Yasiel Puig.

Pederson also suffered some minor cuts on his forehead when he stumbled head-first into the right-center field wall, but he cleared MLB's concussion protocol and is expected to avoid the disabled list. That's excellent news given the violence of the collision. Pederson and Puig were both laughing in the clubhouse after the Dodgers' 13th-inning walkoff win over the Cardinals.
May 24 - 9:03 AM

Matt Adams doubled, homered and hit a walk-off RBI single in Tuesday's win over the Pirates.

Adams struck out three times and hit into a double play in his Braves debut Sunday, but he’s now gone deep each of the last two nights and delivered a walk-off RBI single off of Pirates closer Tony Watson on Tuesday. He’s batted fifth in each of his first three contests with his new club and is worth a corner infield spot in deeper fantasy leagues.
May 24 - 1:59 AM

Jesse Hahn has been diagnosed with a right triceps strain.

Hahn suffered the injury in the third inning of his start Tuesday night against the Marlins and departed the game with a trainer. He was charged with five earned runs, lifting his season ERA from 3.02 to 3.81. A trip to the 10-day disabled list is probably coming.
May 23 - 11:35 PM

Johnny Cueto told reporters late Tuesday that he has also developed a blister on his right index finger.

Add that to the blister on his right middle finger. Cueto said he will continue pitching through the discomfort in the hope of developing some calluses. The right-hander struck out eight batters but allowed four runs over six innings Tuesday in the Giants' loss to the Cubs. He has a disappointing 4.64 ERA for the year.
May 23 - 10:49 PM

Michael Conforto went 3-for-4 with two homers and four RBI in the Mets' 9-3 victory over the Padres on Tuesday.

We thought the Mets made the wrong choice between Conforto and Jay Bruce this spring. It turns out that they're really fortunate to have both. Conforto now has 13 homers, 31 RBI and 34 runs scored in just 129 at-bats. HIs OPS stands at 1.138. The Mets' franchise record for OPS in a season is 1.024, established by Mike Piazza in 1998.
