Major League Baseball has officially announced the addition of one more Wild Card team in the National and American League starting in 2012.

Also announced is that the winners of the "play-in" game between the Wild Card winners will host the first two games of the Divisional Rounds before moving on to the higher seed's home park for subsequent games. This will only be in effect for 2012, as MLB wanted to eliminate a travel day during the Divisional Round. A return to the 2-2-1 format will occur in 2013. Teams from the same division will also now be allowed to face each other in the Division Series.

According to Ben Badler of Baseball America, the Rangers will hold a private workout for Cuban slugger Yasmani Tomas on Wednesday in the Dominican Republic.

The Rangers attended Tomas' open showcase on Sunday but now want to get a closer, more personal look. The Phillies are holding a private workout for Tomas on Monday and the Padres, Yankees, Diamondbacks, Giants, Red Sox, and Mets are also known to have serious interest. Tomas, a powerful 23-year-old corner outfielder, could command more than $100 million this winter. He has established residency in Haiti and is waiting to be cleared as a free agent by Major League Baseball. That should come soon.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Braves have fired general manager Frank Wren.

David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported early Monday morning that the club was leaning this way, and the hammer came down quickly. Wren had a good amount of overall success in his seven years as Atlanta's general manager, but somebody had to take the fall for this year's late-season collapse and it'll be Wren instead of manager Fredi Gonzalez. John Hart will take over as interim GM in Atlanta and retired skipper Bobby Cox will help lead the search for a permanent replacement. The last GM fired from the Braves was John Mullen, the man who signed Hank Aaron. It's not an organization that likes to make drastic off-the-field changes.

Desmond Jennings (knee) is done for the season.

Jennings has been on the shelf since August 28 due to discomfort in his left knee. It's beginning to show improvement, but the Rays aren't going to rush him back for the final week. "It's gotten better, it's coming along," Jennings told reporters Sunday evening. "I was worried at first, I'm not really as worried now."

Joaquin Benoit (shoulder) tossed a perfect inning Sunday in his first appearance since August 26.

Benoit missed close to a month with a right shoulder injury. He struck out two of the three batters he faced Sunday in his return to action and could rack up another save or two before the 2014 regular season comes to a close. Benoit owns a stellar 1.55 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, and 62/14 K/BB ratio in 52 1/3 innings this season.

Mat Latos (elbow) has been shut down for the remainder of the 2014 season.

Latos, who has missed a large chunk of the 2014 campaign due to various injuries, is struggling to recover from a bone bruise in his right elbow. He'll finish the season 5-5 with a 3.25 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 74/23 K/BB ratio over 102 1/3 innings. Daniel Corcino will get the ball in his place again on Wednesday against the Brewers.

Jay Bruce clobbered a pair of home runs and drove home three, leading the Reds to a 7-2 victory over the Cardinals in St. Louis.

Bruce opened up the game's scoring with a solo blast off opposing starter Lance Lynn in the fourth inning, chipped in an RBI single in the sixth and added his second long ball in the eighth inning. It's been a disappointing year for the 27-year-old slugger, hitting just .217/.283/.377 with 18 homers and 65 RBI.

Yasmani Grandal doubled and had three RBI as the Padres bested the Giants 8-2 on Sunday.

Grandal brought home a run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning before belting a two-run double in the seventh. Josh Donaldson came up big for the A's Sunday, hitting a two-run, walk-off homer in the 10th inning to defeat the Phillies 8-6.

Donaldson had singled twice and scored twice in the game prior to coming up with a man on in the 10th inning. He proceeded to take Phillies reliever Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez deep to send everyone home happy. Donaldson now has 28 home runs, 97 RBI and 89 runs scored this year. Three more RBI over the final week will represent Donaldson's first ever 100-RBI season.

Wilin Rosario went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored as the Rockies completed a four-game sweep of the Diamondbacks with Sunday's 8-3 win.

Rosario was the man on the spot for the Rockies, scoring runs in the third, fifth and seventh innings. Rosario is red hot in recent games, hitting .700 (14-for-20) with two home runs, nine RBI and eight runs scored in the past five games. The unconscious stretch has his overall line up to .273/.310/.440 as he attempts to salvage a largely pedestrian season.

During the four-game set, Cuddyer hit a solo homer on Thursday and a grand slam Friday before getting Saturday off. He came back to whack another solo home run Sunday, his 10th in 171 at-bats this year. Injuries marred Cuddyer's season, but the 35-year-old showed he can still hit when healthy -- his line is up to .333/.378/.602 after the homer binge.
