Rangers reassigned LHP Neal Cotts to minor league camp.

Cotts was in the mix for a bullpen job this spring, but he suffered a Grade 2 strain of his left lat muscle over the weekend and is expected to be sidelined for the next four weeks. The Rangers also reassigned infielder Luis Hernandez to minor league camp.

Indians acquired OF Coco Crisp from the Athletics for LHP Colt Hynes.

The deal was agreed to on Tuesday night and formally announced Wednesday -- the deadline for waiver trades. Crisp has batted just .234/.299/.399 with 11 home runs and seven stolen bases in 102 games this season, but he gives the Indians some much-needed outfield depth for the stretch run. Michael Brantley (shoulder) is done for the year and Abraham Almonte is not eligible for the postseason following his February PED suspension. Crisp, 36, began his major league career with Cleveland back in 2002. He'll be a free agent this winter.

Nelson Cruz (hand) is out again Wednesday.

Cruz has a nerve issue in his left hand and experienced discomfort on swings Sunday and Monday. It's not clear when he might return. Franklin Gutierrez is at DH and batting cleanup Wednesday versus the Rangers.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said Wednesday that "nothing but positives could come" from a September promotion for top infield prospect Yoan Moncada.

And it sounds like Farrell is envisioning the 21-year-old taking on more than just a pinch-running, pinch-hitting type of role. Travis Shaw, Aaron Hill, and Brock Holt have failed to produce meaningful offensive numbers at third base and Moncada is batting .298/.411/.518 with 15 home runs and 45 steals in 105 games this season between High-A Salem and Double-A Portland. He's worth a speculative add right now in most standard mixed leagues with MLB rosters set to expand on Thursday.
Aug 31 - 11:28 AM

Yulieski Gurriel will start in left field for the Astros on Wednesday against the A's.

Gurriel was supposed to take over as the Astros' starting third baseman when he arrived in the major leagues earlier this month, but a hamstring injury stalled that plan and now Alex Bregman appears firmly entrenched at the hot corner. Gurriel hasn't played the outfield regularly since 2005, when he was a 21-year-old center fielder in Cuba, but left field at Houston's Minute Maid Park is relatively easy because of the short porch. He did make one start in left at Triple-A Fresno prior to his callup.

Miguel Cabrera is out of the Tigers' lineup Wednesday due to a right ankle flareup.

Cabrera experienced something similar last week in Minnesota and the Tigers don't want to make it any worse. He'll get a day of rest Wednesday and then the Tigers have a scheduled team off day Thursday before starting a series Friday night in Kansas City. That will hopefully get him back in good health. Jarrod Saltalamacchia is starting at first base and batting eighth Wednesday afternoon against White Sox ace Chris Sale.
Aug 31 - 10:40 AM

Cameron Maybin remains out of the Tigers' starting lineup on Wednesday afternoon.

Maybin jammed his left thumb Monday while attempting a steal of second base. MRI results turned up negative for any structural damage and he's considered day-to-day with a bad bruise. JaCoby Jones will start in center field and bat seventh on Wednesday versus White Sox ace Chris Sale.
Aug 31 - 10:09 AM

Diamondbacks recalled RHP Shelby Miller from Triple-A Reno.

Miller will return to the Diamondbacks' rotation on Wednesday afternoon in San Francisco after spending the last seven weeks in the minor leagues. The right-hander yielded four earned runs on nine hits over just 4 2/3 innings in his final start with Triple-A Reno and returns to a hideous 7.14 major league ERA. He can't be trusted in standard fantasy leagues.
Aug 31 - 9:08 AM

Jacoby Ellsbury finished 4-for-6 with two RBI, including the game-winning RBI single in the 10th inning, as the Yankees beat out the Royals 5-4 on Tuesday.

Ellsbury had an RBI double in the second inning, and his based-loaded single in the 10th gave the Yankees a lead they wouldn't cough up again. The 32-year-old has strung together a few decent games in the past week or so, going 9-for-27 with a homer, five RBI and seven runs scored in his last six contests. He's hitting .267/.328/.373 with six homers, 45 RBI, 57 runs scored and 18 stolen bases overall.
Aug 31 - 1:51 AM

C.J. Cron rocked a pair of home runs and finished with three RBI in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Reds.

Cron burned Reds starter Tim Adleman twice on Tuesday, mashing a two-run home run in the first inning and a solo tater in the third. He also homered in the series-opener on Monday and has now launched 14 on the season. In addition, the 26-year-old first baseman is slashing .288/.337/.498. He has picked up eight hits in his last 12 at-bats. Five of those have gone for extra bases.
Aug 31 - 1:18 AM

Denard Span left Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks due to a stiff neck.

Span saw three at-bats before Gorkys Hernandez took over in center for the veteran outfielder midway through the game. He should be considered day-to-day moving forward. The Giants will reevaluate him on Wednesday.
Aug 31 - 12:59 AM

Rougned Odor hit a two-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning Tuesday to give the Rangers an 8-7 win over the Mariners.

Odor finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored, but it was his last hit that loomed the largest. After a leadoff single by Adrian Beltre, Odor drove a low offering from Edwin Diaz to straightaway center to give the Rangers the come-from-behind victory. Odor has 25 homers and 67 RBI this year, and he's hitting .272/.294/.491 overall.
