Angels transferred OF Jeremy Moore (hip) to the 60-day disabled list.

It means the earliest Moore could return is May 26, but he won't be ready until late-June at the earliest after undergoing surgery on March 26. Moore is unlikely to set foot in the big leagues before rosters are expanded in September.

Miles Mikolas threw his first MLB shutout, tallying nine strikeouts against just one walk, in the Cardinals' 5-0 win over the Royals on Monday.

It was also the first-ever complete game at the MLB level for Mikolas, who is 6-0 with a brilliant 2.24 ERA and 46/6 K/BB ratio in 60 1/3 innings this season. The former member of the Padres and Rangers signed a two-year, $15.5 million free agent contract with St. Louis this winter after spending three years in Japan. He clearly figured something out overseas.

Juan Soto hit a three-run homer in his first at-bat and finished 2-for-4 in his first big-league start Monday against the Padres.

Soto didn't start against the lefty on Sunday, but he was in there against fellow southpaw Robbie Erlin tonight and he went deep in the second inning. The homer didn't come in his first major league at-bat, since he had one off the bench yesterday, but it was close enough. It seemed unlikely that he'd play much against lefties initially, but he helped his case here, even if Erlin has been worse against lefties than righties over the course of his career.

Astros released 1B Jon Singleton.

The former top prospect batted just .171/.290/.331 over 420 plate appearances with the Astros from 2014-15 and didn't hit much the last two years in the minors, either. He was suspended 100 games in January following a third positive test for a drug of abuse. Singleton is still just 26 and should resurface somewhere, but obviously his future outlook is cloudy.
May 21 - 8:29 PM

Clayton Kershaw (biceps) will throw another bullpen session Wednesday before throwing a simulated game Saturday.

He threw his first bullpen session since his biceps injury on Sunday and played catch Monday. The simulated game could be in lieu of a rehab start, and if that's the case Kershaw could be ready to rejoin the Dodgers' rotation late next week. He's been sidelined for nearly all of May.
May 21 - 7:28 PM

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Monday that a decision on whether to activate Greg Bird (ankle) will come "maybe a week from now."

Boone said Sunday that Bird could return at some point this week, but it sounds like it will be a little longer than that. Bird -- who has been out all season following March ankle surgery -- entered Monday batting .174/.387/.304 with one homer over his first eight rehab games before going deep in his first at-bat with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
May 21 - 6:54 PM

The Orioles plan for Zach Britton (Achilles) to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk on May 30.

He'll obviously need a handful of rehab appearances before being activated. Coming back from a ruptured Achilles tendon, Britton has been throwing off a mound for nearly a month and will throw a simulated game Tuesday. He would seem to be tracking toward a return in mid-June if all goes well.
May 21 - 6:34 PM

Cardinals general manager Michael Girsch said Monday that Alex Reyes (elbow) will be used in the rotation upon his return.

The team had previously not committed to how they'd use Reyes as he worked his way back from Tommy John surgery, but his dominant showing on his rehab assignment (0.00 ERA, 31/6 K/BB ratio over 16 innings across three starts) has ended any doubt. Reyes will make what's expected to be his final rehab start Thursday at Triple-A Memphis before likely joining the Cards' rotation May 29 in Milwaukee. He'll bump John Gant from the rotation initially, but St. Louis will have a decision to make after Carlos Martinez (lat) returns.
May 21 - 5:52 PM

Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that the Mets are "showing interest" in Jose Bautista.

Bautista was released by the Braves on Sunday after hitting just .143/.250/.343 over 40 plate appearances. The fit with the Mets makes some sense, as they're in need of outfield depth with Juan Lagares (toe) done for the season and Yoenis Cespedes (hip) also sidelined. Todd Frazier (hamstring) is also currently out, but his return doesn't appear to be far off and the Mets might not want Bautista to play any third base like the Braves did. It's possible Joey Bats might have to settle for another minor league contract.
May 21 - 5:43 PM

Carlos Martinez (lat) played long-toss on Monday.

Martinez said he was pain-free during the session. It's the first time he's done any throwing since he landed on the disabled list a week and a half ago with a right lat strain. When Martinez will resume throwing off a mound isn't known yet, but Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak said last Friday that the righty was likely at least 1-2 weeks away from a return.
May 21 - 5:03 PM

Zach Davies (shoulder) is expected to rejoin the Brewers' rotation Thursday versus the Mets.

Davies had a setback with his shoulder earlier this month, but he bounced back quickly and struck out nine over 4 2/3 scoreless innings in a rehab start with Low-A Wisconsin on Saturday. The right-hander holds a 4.24 ERA and 25/12 K/BB ratio over 34 innings across six starts this season.
May 21 - 5:00 PM

Dustin Pedroia (knee) will play in two more rehab games with Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday and Wednesday before being re-evaluated.

It's possible he'll be activated after that for the beginning of the Red Sox' six-game homestand on Friday. Pedroia has just one hit in eight at-bats in his first three rehab games for the PawSox but has drawn a couple walks. The important thing, of course, is how his surgically-repaired left knee feels, and all indications are that he feels good.
