Yankees placed RHP David Robertson on the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique strain.

Robertson had an MRI on his rib cage Tuesday morning which revealed the muscle strain. It's likely to keep him out for three weeks. Rafael Soriano is expected to fill in at closer and is a must-own in all fantasy formats.

Carlos Carrasco fired a complete game Thursday against the Athletics, allowing only one run on two hits in a 3-1 triumph.

Both hits came in the first inning. The dominant outing wasn't much of a surprise. Against a punchless lineup in a spacious park, Carrasco -- 3-0 with a 1.98 ERA in his previous four road starts -- did not disappoint. He struck out seven and was never in danger of getting pulled, finishing off Oakland in a tidy 103 pitches. It was the third consecutive complete game thrown by an Indians starter. Carrasco improves to 11-8 with a 4.03 ERA and 1.15 WHIP.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Giants have agreed to a deal with the Reds for Mike Leake.

The Reds will receive minor leaguers Keury Mella and Adam Duvall in return. The Giants get the rotation help that they so desperately coveted without having to sacrifice their entire future. It's also a huge win for Mike Leake, who gets to pitch in his home state while moving from one of the top offensive parks in the league to a pitcher's paradise in San Francisco.

Moved back into the leadoff spot, Matt Carpenter went 4-for-5 with two homers, a double and four runs scored in the Cardinals' 9-8 win over the Rockies on Thursday.

The Cardinals scored three in the bottom of the ninth to win it, with a Greg Garcia bases-loaded walk ending the game. Carpenter turned in far and away his best game since April. He hadn't had even three hits since May 22. The Cards will probably keep him in the leadoff spot for now, but that might not be bad news for Kolten Wong; Wong hit third with Matt Holliday out tonight.

Brandon Phillips went 4-for-5 with two homers, seven RBI and two steals as the Reds smoked the Pirates 15-5 on Thursday.

That's about as good of a game for fantasy purposes as you'll see. According to Baseball-Reference's Play Index, he's the first player since Ryan Spilborghs in 2009 with two homers and two steals in a game. He's just the third since at least 1914 with seven RBI and two steals, joining Mickey Mantle in 1962 and Gary Sheffield in 1995.

Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports that the Reds are in active discussions with the Reds about acquiring right-hander Mike Leake.

The Giants have been mentioned as possible suitors for nearly every starting pitcher on the market thus far, they simply haven't had the necessary pieces to land any of the top options. They could have enough to get Leake though, and he would certainly help to add stability to the back of their rotation as they attempt to defend their World Series title.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Cubs are pushing hard to acquire Tyson Ross from the Padres.

Rival executives are convinced that the right-hander will be moved before Friday's trade deadline, with the Cubs as the club showing the most interest at the moment. The 28-year-old right-hander is relatively inexpensive and under team control through 2017, meaning the Padres should be able to net a nice return package.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Diamondbacks have made an offer to the Reds for star closer Aroldis Chapman.

It is still somewhat puzzling that the Diamondbacks maintain such a high level of interest in acquiring Chapman, as a closer is a luxury and would seemingly be a waste in their current situation. However, if they have serious intentions on competing in 2016 and view him as the missing piece, it makes some sense. The Reds are in desperate need of rotation help and the Diamondbacks do possess several interesting young arms. Stay tuned.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Mets are attempting to acquire Jay Bruce from the Reds.

The Reds reportedly have interest in Zack Wheeler, though there would likely have to be other pieces involved to make a deal work. The Mets remain in the market for an outfielder and are also believed to have varying levels of interest in Gerardo Parra, Justin Upton, Yoenis Cespedes and Will Venable.
Jul 30 - 10:03 PM

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Cubs, Blue Jays, Dodgers, Yankees and Giants are all in the mix to acquire Yovani Gallardo from the Rangers.

As perhaps the top hurler left on the open market, the price for Gallardo has likely risen now that Johnny Cueto, David Price and Cole Hamels have already been dealt. With the recent injuries in the Yankees rotation, they may be the most desperate club at the moment. Expect the bidding to escalate quickly.

Astros acquired OF Carlos Gomez and RHP Mike Fiers from the Brewers for OF Domingo Santana, OF Brett Phillips, LHP Josh Hader, RHP Adrian Houser and international bonus slot #76.

The dynamic 29-year-old outfielder was nearly traded to the Mets on Wednesday evening before the deal fell apart due to financial issues. Their loss, is a huge gain for the Astros though who will add another monster bat to an already dangerous lineup. In 74 games with the Brewers this season, Gomez was hitting .262/.328/.423 with eight homers, 43 RBI and seven stolen bases.
Jul 30 - 8:08 PM

Pirates acquired RHP Joakim Soria from the Tigers for SS JaCoby Jones.

While it's a major hit to the fantasy value for the veteran right-hander, he will bolster an already elite Pirates bullpen that boasts Tony Watson and Jared Hughes in front of closer Mark Melancon.
