Ryan Mattheus (foot) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment on Sunday.

Mattheus made it through a bullpen session Wednesday without incident and is scheduled to throw a simulated game on Friday. The righty has been on the disabled list since May 21 with plantar fasciitis in his left foot.

Adam Eaton (forearm) is in the White Sox starting lineup Monday night against the Tigers.

Eaton left Sunday's series finale against the Mariners after taking a Taijuan Walker pitch off his forearm in the fourth inning. X-rays obviously turned up negative.

Indians placed RHP Danny Salazar on the paternity leave list.

He'll be back before his next turn in the rotation Saturday against the Marlins. Salazar showed a lot of positive signs Sunday afternoon against the Rangers, striking out 10 batters while yielding two runs on five hits over 5 2/3 innings. Shawn Armstrong was called up from Triple-A Columbus in a corresponding roster move.
Aug 29 - 3:27 PM

Adam Jones (hamstring) remains absent from the Orioles' starting lineup on Monday.

Jones told reporters Monday afternoon that his left hamstring feels much better, but he'll take at least one more day of treatment and rest. He tweaked the hamstring last Thursday and then reaggravated it Friday.
Aug 29 - 3:24 PM

Dustin Pedroia (personal) remains out of the Red Sox lineup Monday night against the Rays.

Pedroia was excused from the Red Sox on Sunday morning to deal with a private family matter. It's not clear when he might return. Brock Holt is starting at second base and batting leadoff Monday versus righty Matt Andriese.
Aug 29 - 3:13 PM

Steven Matz (shoulder) is scheduled to return to the Mets' rotation Thursday versus the Marlins.

Matz made it through another successful throwing session on Sunday and woke up Monday with no abnormal discomfort, so it seems like all is well. He landed on the disabled list August 22, retroactive to August 15, with a mild left shoulder strain. The young southpaw owns a shiny 3.40 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 129/31 K/BB ratio through 132 1/3 innings this season with the Mets.
Aug 29 - 2:43 PM

Nationals optioned RHP Lucas Giolito to Triple-A Syracuse.

Giolito yielded four runs over five innings Sunday in a loss to the Rockies while showing diminished fastball velocity. He now has a 5.62 ERA in 16 innings (four starts) this year at the major league level, but the Nats will likely bring him back after Syracuse's season ends. The 22-year-old right-hander remains one of the top pitching prospects in baseball.

Athletics activated DH Billy Butler from the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Butler suffered a concussion last weekend in a clubhouse fight with teammate Danny Valencia. The two have since apologized, to each other and to the A's organization. Butler has a disappointing .286/.338/.419 batting line with four homers and 30 RBI in 228 plate appearances this season.
Aug 29 - 1:43 PM

Cardinals placed RHP Mike Leake on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 22, with shingles.

Leake was diagnosed with the virus last week and had to be scratched from his scheduled start Saturday versus the Athletics. Top prospect Alex Reyes took that start instead, and will presumably get another turn this week in Cincinnati. There is no timetable for Leake's return, as shingles can be pretty unpredictable.
Aug 29 - 12:26 PM

Jose De Leon tallied 13 strikeouts over 7 2/3 scoreless innings Sunday with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

De Leon walked none and yielded just four hits in the brilliant outing, which helped the OKC Dodgers clinch their second straight Pacific Coast League American Northern Division title. The 24-year-old right-hander now boasts a 2.61 ERA, 0.938 WHIP, and 111/20 K/BB ratio in 86 1/3 innings (16 starts) this season at Triple-A. It's a surprise he's not already in the majors. Maybe it will happen next month.

Pirates activated RHP Tyler Glasnow from the 15-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Indianapolis.

This might be nothing more than a procedural move with major league rosters due to expand September 1. Glasnow walked three but struck out six over three scoreless innings last Monday with Double-A Altoona. It's not clear whether his next start will be in Indianapolis or with Pittsburgh. The talented 23-year-old been out since July 24 because of right shoulder discomfort.

According to FOX Sports' Jon Morosi, Tim Tebow's baseball workout Tuesday in Los Angeles will be attended by scouts from "roughly half" of the 30 major league teams.

Tebow is a serious guy and has been training in Arizona and Southern California for nearly a year, but the fact remains that he's a 29-year-old who hasn't played competitive baseball since high school. The former NFL quarterback and 2007 Heisman Trophy winner faces incredibly long odds of even lasting with a low-level minor league club. One scout told ESPN.com last week that Tebow's swing is so long it might "take out the front row." That's not a good thing.
