Ryan Braun (groin) is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Cardinals.

Braun left Tuesday's game after aggravating a lingering right groin strain. It's not considered serious, but he'll sit out Wednesday afternoon and will rest again Thursday because of the scheduled off-day. Nyjer Morgan is starting in his place in left field.

Ryan Vogelsong was diagnosed with a fractured right hand.

Brutal news for Vogelsong, who tossed five scoreless frames Monday against the Nationals before he was hit in the hand with a pitch while swinging the bat. It's not clear how long he'll be sidelined, but he's looking at an extended absence no matter what. The Giants don't have an obviously alternative in the minors, so Chad Gaudin is the likely replacement in the starting rotation.

Ryan Vogelsong left Monday's start against the Nationals after getting hit on the right hand by a pitch while swinging.

Vogelsong swung at a pitch in on his hands, and the ball appeared to catch him on the right knuckles. It was poor timing, as the righty was in the middle of his best start of the season, allowing three hits and a walk over five scoreless frames. The Giants should have an update on his status soon.

Patrick Corbin moved to 7-0 by pitching a three-hitter and striking out 10 as the Diamondbacks topped the Rockies 5-1 on Monday.

Corbin's April could have been written off as something of a fluke after he went 3-0 with a 1.91 ERA. However, he's now 4-0 with a 0.92 ERA in May. It's a pretty amazing transformation for a guy who went 6-8 with a 4.54 ERA and 14 homers allowed in 107 innings last year.

Shane Victorino (hamstring) is considered day-to-day.

Victorino left Monday's game against the White Sox with left hamstring tightness. It sounds like the move was mostly precautionary, but Red Sox manager John Farrell did say the club would be cautious with the outfielder. Expect him to miss at least a couple games.

Marlins manager Mike Redmond said he plans to use "everybody" at closer.

Michael Dunn saved Sunday's game and Chad Qualls was warming up during a save chance Monday before the Marlins extended their lead. Former full-time closer Steve Cishek holds a 4.91 ERA and 1.42 WHIP on the year and has struggled against left-handed batters. "We’re going to use Cishek. We’ll use Qualls. We haven’t had that many save opportunities. We need those guys to pitch. We need Cishek to go down there and log some innings. He’s still going to close games. Qualls might close some games. Dunn might close some games. We need these guys to pitch we need them to stay sharp. They’re all going to contribute."

Salvador Perez left Monday's game with a right hip injury.

Perez suffered the injury when he bumped into post at the Astros' dugout while chasing a foul popup. There's no word on the severity of the ailment, but the Royals should provide an update after the game. George Kottaras took Perez's spot behind the plate.

Jake Westbrook (elbow) plans to resume throwing from a mound on Tuesday.

It comes after he made 25 flat-ground throws from 60 feet on Sunday and 50 throws from 90 feet on Monday. Westbrook seems likely to need a rehab start or two before returning, but there's no word on when that might take place. He'll likely be back in early June if he can avoid a setback.
May 20 - 10:06 PM

Corey Hart (knee) ran on the field and took full batting practice on Monday.

It's the first time he's done so since undergoing knee surgery. Hart admitted that the running was "awkward," but he could be ready for a rehab assignment in about a week. The assignment is expected to take a while, so it will likely be well into June before Hart is activated.
May 20 - 9:52 PM

Ross Detwiler reported improvement with his back Monday and hopes be ready to make his next start.

Detwiler is hoping he'll be ready to play catch on Monday before throwing from a mound later in the week. With an off day on Thursday, the Nationals can delay Detwiler's next turn a few days. Zach Duke is making a spot start in his place on Monday.
May 20 - 8:56 PM

Eric O'Flaherty will undergo Tommy John surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn left ulnar collateral ligament.

It was inevitable after an MRI over the weekend revealed the bad news. In addition to obviously missing the rest of this season, O'Flaherty will likely be sidelined for the first couple months of the 2014 campaign, as well.
May 20 - 8:53 PM

Jayson Werth (hamstring) will not be ready for activation from the disabled list on Friday and could be sidelined for as much as two more weeks.

Nationals manager Davey Johnson said he received an "alarming" report on Werth Monday, which obviously doesn't sound good. The outfielder experienced a setback with his hamstring during a rehab game last week and has yet to return to game action. He was slated to see a specialist over the weekend and evidently didn't receive good news. Roger Bernadina and Tyler Moore will continue to be the primary fill-ins for Werth.
