Yankees placed LHP CC Sabathia on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 8, with a sore elbow.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi told reporters Saturday that there is a "low level of concern" over the injury, so this is more about Sabathia getting rest in the middle of the summer's dog days. Look for David Phelps or Adam Warren to fill in while the hefty lefty is sidelined. He should be ready in about two weeks.

Michael Morse is not in the Mariners' lineup Tuesday due to his nagging right quad injury.

Morse originally suffered the injury in late May, and he's been unable to totally shake it. The M's have admitted that they would have placed him on the DL earlier had they not been dealing with other injuries, and they're probably wishing they would have gone ahead and done it, anyway. Morse was out testing the quad prior to Tuesday's game and is hoping to be back in the lineup soon.

Tuesday's game between the Dodgers and Yankees has been postponed due to rain.

It will be made up as part of a split doubleheader on Wednesday. Scheduled starters Hyun-Jin Ryu and Phil Hughes will be pushed back a day.

Roy Oswalt is officially scheduled to make his Rockies debut Thursday in D.C. against the Nationals.

Oswalt signed a minor league contract with Colorado on May 2 and has registered a stellar 2.16 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 25/7 K/BB ratio across 33 1/3 innings since reporting to Double-A Tulsa. The veteran right-hander is worth a try in most standard mixed fantasy leagues, though keep in mind that he struggled last year with the Rangers.

Mariners activated 1B Justin Smoak from the 15-day disabled list.

Smoak wound up missing a little under three weeks with a right oblique strain. He did not hit the ball well on his rehab assignment and will return to a .240/.350/.344 batting line. The 26-year-old first baseman remains a poor option in standard mixed fantasy leagues.

Josh Willingham (knee) is back in the Twins' starting lineup on Tuesday evening versus the White Sox.

Willingham got a cortisone shot in his troublesome left knee on Sunday. He'll try to play through the pain.

Anthony Rizzo is not in the Cubs' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the rival Cardinals.

It's the first day off of the season for the young first baseman, who has 10 home runs and 39 RBI in 68 games this season. Cody Ransom will get the nod in his place against Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright.

Matt Harvey took a no-hitter into the seventh before giving up three runs in seven-plus innings Tuesday in a victory over the Braves.

Jason Heyward's infield single ended the no-hit bid; Harvey actually had a play on him, but he didn't think he could make the tag after grabbing the ball towards the first base line and decided to flip to first, which happened to be vacant. Harvey got through that inning scoreless anyway, but the eighth was a different story. He loaded the bases with no outs and then got pulled. After he left, all three runners came around to score. The Braves' official scorer made an egregious call on what should have been ruled an error on David Wright, or he would have only allowed one earned run. It took some of the shine of a dominant effort in which Harvey struck out 13. Still, he did pick up his first win since May 17 and his second since April 19.

Brandon Morrow (forearm) suffered a physical setback Monday in his rehab start at High-A Dunedin.

Morrow will have his forearm reexamined this week. He did not look sharp in the outing, allowing three runs in two innings, and can now be considered out indefinitely.

Rafael Betancourt (groin) threw a 35-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday and reported feeling fine.

Betancourt will face live hitters on Friday and could then be cleared for a minor league rehab assignment. The veteran right-hander will be back in the Rockies' bullpen by the end of this month if everything continues to go smoothly. Rex Brothers is filling in at closer and doing a fine job.

Kevin Youkilis has a herniated disc in his back and will undergo surgery to repair it on Thursday.

He is expected to need about 10-12 weeks of rest and rehab, which puts his season in jeopardy. It's another brutal blow to the Yankees, who have been without third baseman Alex Rodriguez (hip) all year. Youkilis was batting .219/.305/.343 with two home runs and eight RBI in 28 games as A-Rod's fill-in at the hot corner.
Jun 18 - 4:13 PM

Denard Span (foot) is back in the Nationals' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Phillies.

Span sat out Monday after fouling yet another ball off his right foot on Sunday. He's had some bad luck this year.
