Twins optioned INF Tsuyoshi Nishioka to Triple-A Rochester.

That didn't last long. The Twins called Nishioka up from the minors on August 5 to give him another shot, but he went 0-for-12 in three games and looked awful on defense. He's a complete bust at this point. Trevor Plouffe (thumb) was activated from the 15-day disabled list in a corresponding 25-man roster move.

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said A.J. Burnett (calf) "has been nowhere near a mound" since being placed on the disabled list.

Burnett hasn't pitched since June 8, and it appears he's not terribly close to being activated. "We're working on flexibility, mobility and strengthening," Hurdle said. "That's not to say that can't change in another 24 hours with A.J. He's really tried to not do some things at all and do a lot of things. As far as his rehab goes, he didn't want to do anything as far as moving around other than strengthening, loosening and working on the flexion part of it."

Manny Ramirez's agent, Barry Praver, told FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi Wednesday that his client would like to return to Major League Baseball.

Ramirez has been taken off the roster of the EDA Rhinos of the Chinese Professional Baseball League after batting .352/.422/.555 with eight home runs and 43 RBI in 206 plate appearances. There's been speculation that the 41-year-old could go to Japan, but his first choice would surely be to return to the states. Whether anyone would have interest in him remains to be seen.

Trevor Cahill (hip) is expected to be ready for his next start.

Cahill had to leave Wednesday's game after taking a first-inning Marcell Ozuna line drive off his right hip. His removal was a precaution, though, and he'll be fine for a start early next week against the Nationals.

The Rockies will option Jeff Francis to Triple-A Colorado Springs prior to Thursday's game.

The move won't be made official until the Rockies call up Roy Oswalt. The club is hoping that Francis will agree to stick around for depth, but he has the option of choosing free agency because of his major league service time. He's put up a 6.58 ERA and 1.56 WHIP this season and wouldn't figure to net a major league deal elsewhere.

Derek Jeter (ankle) took batting practice Wednesday for the first time since his second ankle fracture.

It's another big step for the rehabbing shortstop, who is working out at the Yankees' spring training complex in Tampa, Florida. Jeter has been hitting off a tee and doing light fielding drills for about a week and is currently on track to return to the Yankees' active roster shortly after the All-Star break.

David Price (triceps) is scheduled to make his first rehab start on Friday with High-A Charlotte.

Price will have to make at least two total starts in the minor leagues before the Rays consider activating him from the disabled list. The ace left-hander has been sidelined since May 15 with a left triceps strain. He felt "great" after a bullpen session Tuesday.

Chris Davis crushed his 25th and 26th home runs Wednesday as the Orioles pounded the Tigers 13-3.

Both were two-run shots; he had one off Rick Porcello in the fourth and another off Jose Valverde in the ninth. He also mixed in a ground-rule double, giving him five RBI on the day. After going eight games without an RBI earlier this month, Davis has come back with six homers and 14 RBI in his last eight games. He's also overtaken Miguel Cabrera for the AL lead in OPS.

Nick Swisher (shoulder) is expected to return to the Indians' starting lineup this Saturday.

That's contingent on a batting practice session going well on Friday. Swisher hasn't placed since last Saturday because of a sore left shoulder. He was given a cortisone injection to treat the discomfort earlier this week and is apparently feeling much better.
Jun 19 - 4:47 PM

Chris Perez (shoulder) will not be activated from the disabled list this Friday.

The original plan was to bring him back for the weekend but Perez yielded three homers (and five runs in total) during a rehab appearance Tuesday night at Double-A Akron. The Indians want to get him a little more work against minor league competition. Vinnie Pestano will remain the Indians' primary ninth-inning man.
Jun 19 - 4:40 PM

Brett Lawrie (ankle) took grounders and some light batting practice on Wednesday afternoon.

It's a nice step in the right direction for the young third baseman, who injured his ankle on a slide on May 27. He should be cleared to run the bases in about one week. Then comes the minor league rehab assignment. The best guess right now is that he's back in early July.
Jun 19 - 4:25 PM

Jose Reyes (ankle) will join Triple-A Buffalo on Friday to continue his rehab assignment.

He'll be just one step away from activation at that point. Reyes, who has been on the shelf since April 12 with a severe ankle sprain, is 5-for-12 through his first three rehab games at High-A Dunedin. He should be back in the Blue Jays' starting lineup in less than a week.
