ESPN.com's Enrique Rojas reports the Cubs have signed Starlin Castro to a seven-year, $60 million extension.

The contract covers four years of arbitration eligibility and three years of free agency, and it also carries a $16 million option for 2020. Castro, 22, was expected to qualify for "Super Two" status, so the Cubs made the move to lock up one of their core players through at least 2019 for a reasonable $8.57 million in average annual value (AAV). It’s hard to see this as anything but a positive for the rebuilding franchise.

Yadier Molina went 3-for-4 and delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning on Sunday as the Cardinals rallied to beat the Pirates 8-4.

Molina also scored three runs in the ballgame. His RBI single in the seventh inning broke a 4-4 tie and put the Cardinals ahead to stay. The veteran backstop is enjoying another solid season at the dish, hitting .268/.300/.426 with nine long balls and 29 RBI.

Aaron Hicks (oblique) will be placed on the disabled list on Monday and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks.

Hicks sustained the oblique injury during Sunday's game against the Rangers. No word yet on what the corresponding move will be, but there's a chance that Jacoby Ellsbury will be activated from the disabled list.

Cody Bellinger went 3-for-5 with a pair of two-run home runs and four total RBI in Sunday's 12-6 win over the Rockies.

The Rockies worked their way out to a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third before the Dodgers made their offensive presence felt against Tyler Anderson. Following a two-run home run by Kike Hernandez, Bellinger crunched a two-run shot of his own to draw the team to within 5-4. They would keep that offensive momentum going as the game progressed, with Bellinger coming through for yet another two-run shot in the eighth inning. The young phenom is hitting a sparkling .274/.342/.679 with 24 homers and 55 RBI in just 57 games played. He has 11 extra-base hits (including six home runs) in his last nine games.

Rene Rivera went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three total RBI in Sunday's 8-2 win over the Giants.

With the Mets already up 1-0, Rivera bumped the lead to 3-0 with a two-run homer off Matt Moore in the second inning. He would add a solo shot in the fourth. The light-hitting backup catcher is slashing .268/.305/.423 with five homers and 19 RBI in 123 at-bats this season.

Ervin Santana mowed down the Indians over six scoreless frames Sunday in the Twins’ 4-0 victory.

The Indians actually managed nine hits off Santana but most of them were singles and they couldn’t do much with runners in scoring position (1-for-8). Santana fanned seven without allowing a walk while throwing 70 of his 108 pitches for strikes. Sunday’s win was Santana’s 10th of the year, placing him third in the majors behind Jason Vargas and Clayton Kershaw, who both have 11. Santana will go head-to-head with Vargas next Friday at Kansas City.

Michael Taylor launched his 11th homer Sunday in the Nationals’ 6-2 loss to the Reds.

His two-run shot off Scott Feldman accounted for Washington's only runs on Sunday. Taylor has been on a tear, providing five homers and 10 RBI over his last nine games. He should easily eclipse his career-high of 14 round-trippers, which he set back in 2015.
Jun 25 - 7:23 PM

Scooter Gennett went ballistic in Sunday’s 6-2 victory over the Nationals, leading the Reds with four hits including his 11th home run of the season.

What a day for Gennett. He brought home Billy Hamilton on an RBI single in the first inning before clobbering a solo home run off Tanner Roark an inning later. Gennett has batted an astounding .474 during his four-game hitting streak while raising his season average from .287 to .308. He’s just three homers shy of tying his career-best of 14.

Zach Davies spun seven shutout innings Sunday in the Brewers’ victory over Atlanta.

Davies was pitching to contact—he didn’t strike anyone out—but he only gave up four hits and was extremely efficient over his 98-pitch outing. He got stronger as the game went on, allowing just two base runners after the second inning. Davies leads Milwaukee with eight victories this year despite a sluggish 4.96 ERA. He’ll look for win No. 9 Saturday against Miami.
Jun 25 - 6:16 PM

Keon Broxton clobbered another homer as part of a three-hit, three-RBI afternoon Sunday in the Brewers’ win over the Braves.

Broxton also stole his 13th base of the season. His home run was a 366-foot solo shot off Julio Teheran in the second inning. Broxton was struggling for a while but the threat of top prospect Lewis Brinson seems to have lit a fire under him. Seven of Broxton’s 13 homers this year have come over his last 15 games.
Jun 25 - 6:12 PM

Jose Bautista went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and four total RBI in Sunday's 8-2 win over the Royals.

The Royals held a 2-0 lead after four innings before Bautista evened up the score with his two-run dinger off Jason Hammel in the top of the fifth. The pull-shot to left was a no-doubter which traveled an estimated 451 feet. One inning later, he would draw a bases-loaded walk to give the Blue Jays a 3-2 lead. Bautista then capped off his nice day at the office with an RBI single in the seventh inning. For the season as a whole, the veteran slugger is hitting .233/.346/.419 with 13 homers and 35 RBI through 274 at-bats. He has turned in multi-hit efforts in three of his last four games.
Jun 25 - 5:52 PM

Sonny Gray was terrific in Sunday's victory over the White Sox, allowing just two runs (one earned) on four hits over his seven frames.

Gray racked up seven strikeouts on the afternoon while walking only one. He gave up a solo homer to Adam Engel in the third inning, then kept the White Sox off the board except for an unearned run that scampered home on a passed ball in the fourth. Now 3-3 on the season, Gray will carry a 4.45 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 65/22 K/BB ratio into Saturday's matchup against the Braves.
