Padres sent RHP Ross Ohlendorf outright to Triple-A Tucson.

Ohlendorf still has option years left, but the Padres removed him from the 40-man roster. The 30-year-old posted a 7.77 ERA in 13 appearances (nine starts) earlier this season.

Yankees placed DH Matt Holliday on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to June 25, with a viral infection.

Holliday has been feeling fatigued and is headed back to New York for further testing. The Yankees aren't sure at this point whether he's dealing with a virus or maybe allergies. They'll find out soon enough. Miguel Andujar has replaced him on the roster and should see regular starts in the DH spot.

Hanley Ramirez (knee) remained out of the Red Sox' lineup Wednesday.

He's missed three games now with a sore left knee. Sam Travis is filling in at designated hitter.
Jun 28 - 3:08 PM

Carlos Gomez (back) remained out of the Rangers' lineup Wednesday.

He's missed two straight starts with a sore back. Gomez is considered day-to-day. Delino DeShields is again in center field.

Tigers activated DH Victor Martinez from the 10-day disabled list.

Martinez missed nearly two weeks of action with an irregular heartbeat. Thankfully, it appears that he's going to be fine. He'll go back to being the Tigers' regular designated hitter.
Jun 28 - 3:02 PM

Giants placed RHP Mark Melancon on the 10-day disabled list with a right pronator strain.

It's the same injury that sent him to the DL last month. Melancon missed barely over the minimum amount of time the first trip, but the Giants would figure to be more careful with him this go-round. Sam Dyson is expected to handle the closing duties for the Giants while Melancon is sidelined.

Royals recalled OF Jorge Soler from Triple-A Omaha.

Soler was sent down earlier this month after batting an ugly .164/.292/.273 over his first 65 plate appearances. However, he hit a robust .333/.478/.736 with eight homers over 20 games for Omaha since being optioned and should get a good number of starts in the designated hitter spot with Brandon Moss struggling.

Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com writes that Howie Kendrick (hamstring) being placed on the disabled list is "looking likely."

Kendrick had been slated to start a second straight game in the designated hitter spot Wednesday, but he told Phillies manager Pete Mackanin that he wasn't feeling up to it. He hasn't started a game in the field in a week due to a strained left hamstring. The Phillies will certainly be hoping that Kendrick's absence will be short, as they're likely to shop him before the trade deadline.
Jun 28 - 2:36 PM

DJ LeMahieu (groin) is not in the Rockies' lineup Wednesday.

He's on the lineup sheet among the team's reserves, though, so it appears LeMahieu will avoid the disabled list for the time being. He exited Tuesday's game with a cramp in his right groin. Pat Valaika is handing second base Wednesday.
Jun 28 - 1:48 PM

Koda Glover (back) has yet to resume a throwing program.

It looked at the time a little over two weeks ago when Glover was placed on the disabled list that his absence would be a short one, but his recovery from a lower back injury is coming along more slowly than expected. At this point, a return before the All-Star break doesn't appear very likely. Glover probably would've gotten his closer job back if his absence was brief and it's still possible he could. However, it's looking like the Nationals might have already traded for a ninth-inning man by the time Glover makes it back.

White Sox activated LHP Carlos Rodon from the 60-day disabled list.

Rodon will make his first start in the majors this season on Wednesday versus the Yankees. The left-hander has been on the shelf since spring training with biceps tendinitis. He held a 10.06 ERA over 17 rehab innings, so some patience will probably be required here.
Jun 28 - 1:09 PM

Cubs designated C Miguel Montero for assignment.

Montero drew headlines after Tuesday's game when he threw Jake Arrieta under the bus following the team allowing seven stolen bases to the Nationals. He's 1-for-32 in trying to catch attempted base stealers this season but is also hitting .286/.366/.439 with four home runs, so some team will scoop up Montero after he clears waivers. Victor Caratini has been called up to replace Montero on the roster.
