Howie Kendrick is back in the Angels' lineup Tuesday.

Kendrick said out Monday after suffering a minor left hamstring tweak Sunday. The second baseman has been on fire this month with a .394/.442/.620 batting line.

Steve Pearce (wrist) is now expected to return to the Orioles' starting lineup on Thursday.

Pearce received a cortisone shot for his sore right wrist on Saturday and was aiming to return Wednesday, but the AL East champions can afford to give him a little more rest. Pearce is batting .297/.376/.557 with 20 home runs in 98 games this season.

Chris Tillman will start Game 1 of the ALDS for the Orioles.

O's manager Buck Showalter made that announcement on Tuesday evening. Tillman owns a shiny 3.26 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 201 1/3 innings this season for the American League East champions, and he has been especially dominant since the All-Star break.

Xander Bogaerts (neck) was scratched from the Red Sox starting lineup on Tuesday night.

Bogaerts was removed from Sunday's series finale against the Orioles with stiffness in his neck and isn't feeling well enough to start Tuesday's series-opener against the Rays. Jemile Weeks is at shortstop.

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons will be brought back in 2015, reports CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.

The Jays have stumbled down the stretch in 2014, but Heyman hears that the club's higher-ups "are especially pleased with [Gibbons'] in-game managing, which they view as excellent." Gibbons is 153-165 in his two years as the skipper in Toronto. It's his second stint with the team.

Jurickson Profar will be shut down 2-3 months with renewed soreness in his right shoulder.

There's no surgery planned yet for Profar, who missed the entire 2014 season due to a torn muscle in his right shoulder. But he has experienced multiple setbacks in his rehab and will likely remain a question mark heading into spring training in 2015. Profar, still a dynamic young talent, turns 22 years old next February.

Marcus Stroman won't make another start this year.

Stroman is going to pitch out of the bullpen when he returns from suspension later this week. The 23-year-old right-hander owns a promising 11-6 record, 3.77 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 107/28 K/BB ratio in his first 126 2/3 major league innings. He should be a big weapon for the Toronto starting rotation in 2015 and beyond.

Jenrry Mejia is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair a sports hernia on October 2.

The procedure will be performed by Dr. Bill Meyers in Philadelphia. Mejia has pitched through the hernia throughout the second half of the season and will remain active until the Mets officially close up shop. He should be 100 percent by next spring.

Kevin Kiermaier is out Tuesday due to illness.

Kiermaier should be fine in a day or two. The 24-year-old outfielder is batting .262/.314/.445 with 10 home runs and five stolen bases in 103 games this season.

Jonathan Papelbon has been activated from suspension.

Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg told reporters that he will use Papelbon if a save situation arises on Tuesday night. Papelbon was suspended seven games for appearing to grab his crotch toward the fans in Philadelphia on September 14. He then got into a physical altercation with umpire Joe West.

Mike Minor (shoulder) won't pitch again this season.

Minor lasted just one inning on Saturday before experiencing shoulder discomfort and the Braves don't want to risk making it any worse. An MRI was taken and showed no structural damage. David Hale is going to make a spot start for Atlanta on Thursday against the Pirates. Minor will look forward to a bounceback 2015 after posting a rough 4.77 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 25 starts this year.
