Rangers activated C Mike Napoli from the 15-day disabled list.

Napoli was cleared after completing a brief rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco. The Rangers are expected to use him in a part-time role with Geovany Soto initially, but he figures to make semi-regular starts at DH and first base. The 30-year-old Napoli has been on the DL since mid-August with a quad strain.

Miguel Cabrera was ejected from Wednesday's game for arguing balls and strikes.

Cabrera struck out to start the top of the fourth inning and wasn't a fan of home plate umpire Quinn Wolcott's call. He was 1-for-2 with the strikeout before being tossed.

Domonic Brown was removed from Wednesday's game due to concussion concerns.

Brown flipped over a wall in the second inning and stayed in the game briefly before being removed. A trip to the 7-day concussion disabled list could be in the cards for the 28-year-old.
Sep 2 - 9:12 PM

Daniel Murphy left Wednesday's game with mild left quad discomfort.

The Mets called the move "precautionary," but Murphy has missed time with an injury to the same quad already this season. More should be known Thursday, but it sounds as though he's day to day for now.

Didi Gregorius went 2-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored, and the Yankees outlasted the Red Sox 13-8 on Wednesday.

Gregorius scored three of the team's 13 runs and hit one of their five homers on the afternoon. It was the third homer in his last seven games as Gregorius has been one of the hottest hitters in the game lately. He's 16-for-28 in that span, collecting 12 RBI and eight runs scored. The shortstop is now batting a respectable .272/.321/.372 with eight home runs, 44 RBI and 49 runs scored on the year.

Lucas Duda (back) swung a bat Wednesday for the first time since his back injury.

Duda won't come off the disabled list when first eligible on Sunday, but it's still a step in the right direction. Duda hit the DL on August 22 with a small thoracic herniation in his back. With minor league seasons winding down Duda might need to do all his rehab with the Mets, but he won't be rushed back now that rosters have expanded and the Mets have a lead in the NL East. Still, Duda should be back sometime this month.

Brandon Crawford (calf) is out of the Giants' lineup again Wednesday.

Crawford is still sidelined after being hit in the left calf by a pitch during Monday's game. Ehire Adrianza is starting in Crawford's place against Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw.
Sep 2 - 7:07 PM

Albert Pujols slugged his 35th home run of the season Wednesday in the Angels' 9-4 defeat of the A's.

Pujols reached on an infield single and scored a run in the Angels' four-run first inning and then took A's starter Sonny Gray deep to left-center field for a two-run shot in the top of the second. Albert recorded his third RBI of the day on a fielder's choice groundout in the top of the ninth. The 35-year-old is having a resurgent season in the counting stats department, but he still owns a relatively underwhelming .803 overall OPS.

Rockies manager Walt Weiss said Justin Morneau (concussion) is "definitely close" to returning to the lineup.

Morneau is back with the Rockies and tried to talk his way into the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks. Morneau hasn't played since the middle of May due to concussion symptoms, but it sounds as though his return is imminent.
Sep 2 - 6:43 PM

Paul Goldschmidt traveled back to Phoenix on Wednesday for the birth of his first child.

Goldschmidt is expected to return to the club for their game Saturday in Chicago. Yasmany Tomas is likely to fill in for Goldschmidt at first base in the MVP candidate's absence.

Tanner Roark will be recalled to start in place of Stephen Strasburg on Friday.

Strasburg is dealing with some upper back discomfort, so Roark will get the call against the Braves. Roark threw two innings with High-A Potomac on Monday in preparation for such a move. Roark has made just six starts this year after winning 15 games as a starter last season. The 28-year-old has a 4.54 ERA and 1.30 WHIP through 79 1/3 innings on the year.
Sep 2 - 6:30 PM

Stephen Strasburg (back) won't start on Friday as originally hoped.

Strasburg played catch Wednesday and is still slated to throw a bullpen session Thursday, but Tanner Roark will take the hill against the Braves. Wednesday was the second consecutive day Strasburg has played catch, a good sign even if he's not yet on track to return to the mound. The right-hander is fighting through some discomfort in his upper back that forced him to leave his most start. More should be known about his immediate future after Thursday's bullpen session.
