Padres activated RHP Huston Street from the 15-day disabled list.

He'll be in uniform and active for Friday night's contest against the Giants. With as well as Luke Gregerson pitched in his absence, it will be interesting to see if Street immediately re-takes the closer's job or if they ease him back into it.

Edinson Volquez has dropped the appeal of his five-game suspension.

Volquez was given the five-game sentence Saturday for his role in last Thursday's benches-clearing brawl with the White Sox, during which the right-hander landed a punch on an unsuspecting Chicago player. Volquez is eligible to return to the rotaiton May 2.

Jose Bautista (shoulder) is planning to take batting practice before Monday's game in Boston.

He won't be in the Blue Jays' starting lineup on Monday night, but Bautista does expect to return at some point during this three-game series at Fenway Park. The 34-year-old slugger has been out since last Tuesday with a right shoulder strain. He had four home runs and 10 RBI in 14 games before the injury.

Nick Franklin (oblique) expects to begin a minor league rehab assignment at some point this week.

Franklin seemed to be trending toward minor league games early last week, but the Rays slowed his rehab as a precautionary measure. The 24-year-old was poised to open the 2015 season as Tampa Bay's starting second baseman before suffering an oblique strain at the end of spring training. He should be ready to rock in early May and may carry some value in deep fantasy leagues.

Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria gave his first public endorsement of manager Mike Redmond on Sunday.

Rumors swirled early last week that Redmond was already on the hot seat, but the Marlins swept the Nationals over the weekend and have rattled off five straight victories. Funny how things change. "He's the manager. Period," Loria told Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. "All teams go through bad moments. Ours came early."

Rajai Davis said Sunday evening that he doesn't believe his groin injury is serious.

Davis had to jog to first base in the ninth inning Sunday after recording his third hit of the game and was then removed. But he expressed optimism about the groin discomfort in the clubhouse afterward. "I don't think it's serious at all," Davis said. "I just think it's sore, tight. I've been running around on it a lot the last couple of days. I guess I wasn't used to that. If I get my body used to it, I think I'll be all right." The 34-year-old is batting .341/.449/.488 with six stolen bases and 11 runs scored in 14 games (10 starts) this season.

Alex Rodriguez inched one step closer to tying Willie Mays, blasting his 659th career home run in Sunday's 6-4 victory over the Mets.

His solo shot came courtesy of Mets starter Jon Niese and got the Yankees on the board in the first inning. He would also add an RBI double, finishing the night 2-for-4. The 39-year-old has been awfully impressive thus far in 2015, slashing .267/.405/.583 with five homers and 13 RBI.
Apr 26 - 10:55 PM

Mike Trout hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning of Sunday's loss to the Rangers.

Trout smashed the long-ball off of Anthony Bass. It was his fourth homer of the season and his first since April 17. He finished the game 1-for-4 with two RBI and two walks. After a nuclear start to the season, Trout's "cooled off" to a .318/.432/.545 line. There's no reason to expect his usual brilliance to legitimately fade any time soon.
Apr 26 - 9:16 PM

Joe Mauer tripled to drive in two runs in the eleventh inning, helping the Twins to a 4-2 win.

Mauer hit the big triple off of Tyler Olson. In addition to the extra-inning heroics, he also smacked an RBI double in the third inning. He would finish the game 3-for-5 with a walk and three RBI. The Twins star now has eight hits in his last 19 at-bats and is slashing .299/.392/.373. Mauer's lack of power remains a concern (he has yet to hit a home run and hit just four last season), but he's clearly seeing the ball well as the calendar nears May. Hopefully Sunday's game is a sign of things to come.

Francisco Liriano delivered a strong performance in Sunday's victory over the Diamondbacks, whiffing six over 6 1/3 scoreless innings.

In typical Liriano fashion, the hard-throwing southpaw allowed just two hits but issued six walks, giving the Diamondbacks ample scoring chances. He was able to make big pitches in key situations though and came through the outing unscathed. He now sports a 2.22 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 30/12 K/BB ratio across 24 1/3 frames on the season. He'll look to replicate this effort when he does battle against the Cardinals in St. Louis on Saturday.
Apr 26 - 7:36 PM

Brandon Morrow pitched a gem against the Dodgers on Sunday, allowing just one run over seven innings.

This is the third time in four starts that Morrow has pitched seven innings (he went six innings in his other start). Pretty impressive for a guy who had to win the No. 5 spot in the rotation out of spring training. Against the Dodgers on Sunday, he struck out four, scattered five hits, and walked just one. Morrow's only mistake came on a solo home run by Alex Guerrero in the fifth inning. Otherwise, everything came up aces. Through 27 innings, he holds a 2.67 ERA and a 19/6 K/BB ratio. And he has the talent to keep it rolling as long as he stays healthy. Morrow will look to continue his sparkling run next Saturday at home against the Rockies.
Apr 26 - 6:53 PM

Francisco Rodriguez notched his third save of the season Sunday in the Brewers' 6-3 win over the Cardinals.

Rodriguez delivered a perfect ninth inning, getting Kolten Wong to ground out and Peter Bourjos and Tony Cruz to fly out on just 10 total pitches. It was career save No. 351 for K-Rod, whose fantasy stock should rise rapidly as the Brewers work out of their early-season rut.
