Bud Norris fired 7 1/3 innings of scoreless ball Wednesday in the Astros' 2-0 victory over the Cardinals.

Norris allowed just two hits and did not issue a walk. He fanned seven. It's the deepest the right-hander has gone in a game this year, and the performance earned him his first win since May 21. Norris will finish up against the light-hitting Cubs next week.

Billy Hamilton left Wednesday's game against the Cubs with a tight left hamstring.

Hamilton was seen grabbing his hamstring during his last at-bat, and he was double-switched out by manager Bryan Price in the eighth inning. The Reds should provide more information on the severity of the injury after the game.

Brandon Phillips left Wednesday's game against the Cubs with a sprained left thumb.

The injury initially appeared to be to his wrist, but the Reds clarified shortly after. Phillips hurt the thumb diving for a ball in the eighth inning. X-rays on the thumb came back negative, a good sign, but there's still no indication of how much time he might miss with the injury. We likely won't see him until after the All-Star break regardless.

In his first start since May 10, Dillon Gee held the Braves to one run over seven innings en route to his fourth win on Wednesday.

Gee had been out for nearly two months with a strained lat. His effort helped the Mets extend their winning streak to four games and they'll go for a series sweep against the Braves on Thursday. The right-hander held the Braves to six hits and a walk while striking out four. Gee, now 4-1, has a 2.56 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP, and a 37/16 K/BB ratio. He'll take the hill after the All-Star break, taking on the Padres in San Diego.

Yadier Molina left Wednesday's game against the Pirates with a right thumb sprain.

Trainers checked on Molina after he slid into third base in the second inning, and Tony Cruz pinch hit for him an inning later. The Cardinals said he will be re-evaluated on Thursday.

Carlos Ruiz (concussion) has been cleared to resume baseball activities after his second positive IMPACT test in three days.

Ruiz hasn't played since he was hit in the helmet by a pitch on June 26. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro had previously said Ruiz will start baseball activities this weekend if Wednesay's test went well. If things continue to progress, the catcher will likely be ready to go shortly after the All-Star break.

Adam Lind will miss the next six to eight weeks with a non-displaced fracture in his right foot.

Lind played in games as recently as Monday, but an MRI revealed the fracture after the first basemen felt some discomfort in the foot. It's a huge blow for the struggling Blue Jays, as they're already missing Edwin Encarnacion for the next few weeks.
Jul 9 - 8:05 PM

Albert Pujols went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 8-7 win over the Blue Jays.

Pujols had a string of four straight multi-hit games snapped with an 0-for-4 night Tuesday, but he was right back at it on Wednesday. The home run, his 20th of the year, gave the Angels a one-run lead, and they ended up winning by the same margin. He also scored a run in the third inning. His strong push has his season line at .270/.321/.489 with a few days left before the All-Star break.

The Giants are aiming to activate Marco Scutaro (back) from the disabled list on Friday.

The tentative plan is for Scutaro to play a full nine innings with Triple-A Fresno on Thursday, with the team activating him before Friday's game if all goes well. Scutaro hasn't played a game yet this season due to chronic back problems, but he could be a big boost to the Giants in the second half.

Paul Goldschmidt smacked a walkoff two-run double in Wednesday's 4-3 victory over the Marlins.

Arizona entered the bottom of the 10th inning trailing by two runs with Marlins closer Steve Cishek on the mound, but Aaron Hill singled, Ender Inciarte drew a walk, David Peralta hit an RBI single, and then Goldschmidt ended it with a two-run double to left-center field. Goldy is batting .312/.404/.558 with 61 RBI in 92 games this season.

Derek Holland (knee) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment after the All-Star break.

Holland will throw live batting practice over the weekend, and he's tentatively scheduled to make his first rehab start for Triple-A Round Rock on July 23. From there he'll build stamina much like a pitcher just beginning spring training, meaning he won't be back with the Rangers until sometime in August.

Troy Tulowitzki homered twice in the Rockies' 6-3 defeat of the Padres on Wednesday afternoon.

Tulo slugged a solo shot in the Rockies' two-run first inning and then added another solo bomb in the Rockies' three-run eighth. He could be on his way to his first National League MVP trophy with a .350/.441/.616 batting line, 20 homers, and 49 RBI in 86 games.
