Andrew McCutchen hit a walkoff solo homer on Saturday, leading the Pirates to a 2-1 win over the Reds.

With the score tied at 1-1 and one out in the ninth, McCutchen took Jonathan Broxton the opposite way for the decisive blow. The Pirates' center field has certainly tailed off in the second half but is still having an MVP-caliber season, hitting .329/.401/.559 with 31 homers, 107 runs, 94 RBI and 20 stolen bases.

Anthony Rizzo went 4-for-5 with a two doubles and two runs scored in Tuesday's win against the Pirates.

Rizzo doubled and scored in the third inning, and did the same in the fifth, accounting for two of the Cubs' five runs in their shutout win. The first baseman is having a terrific year, though it's been cast aside slightly by Bryce Harper and Paul Goldschmidt. Rizzo is batting .293/.401/.534 with 20 home runs, 61 RBI, 59 runs scored, and 14 stolen bases.

Aroldis Chapman struck out two in the ninth inning to close out the Reds' 3-2 win over the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Chapman fanned Kolten Wong and Randal Grichuk before getting Mark Reynolds to fly out to end the game. The left-hander now owns a 1.77 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 81/24 K/BB ratio over 45 2/3 innings this year. He could have gained some trade value with a move at the deadline, but even in Cincinnati Chapman is the game's best reliever.

Salvador Perez had a terrific night in the batter's box, finishing 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Tuesday's win versus the Tigers.

Perez put the Royals up 1-0 in the second inning with an RBI single, then extended it to 3-0 in the fourth with a two-run home run off of Justin Verlander. The backstop had been mired in a slump, batting .074 (2-for-27) in his last eight games. Perez is carrying a slugging-heavy .249/.262/.425 batting line with 16 home runs and 46 RBI this season.

Marco Estrada held the Twins to one run in 6 2/3 innings, earning his ninth win of the season on Tuesday.

The Twins scored their only run in the fourth inning on Torii Hunter's sacrifice fly. Estrada scattered a pair of hits and a pair of walks while punching out five batters. He's given up two or fewer earned runs in eight of his last nine starts. It's no surprise then, that he has a terrific 3.40 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and an 86/34 K/BB ratio over 111 1/3 innings. Estrada will take on the first-place Yankees in the Bronx next.

David Wright (back) is hoping to begin a rehab assignment early next week.

Wright took a full round of batting practice on Tuesday and also did other activities, as he'll be put through strenuous workouts for five straight days. If he gets through that with no setbacks, he'll be cleared to play in games. "At this point, I just want to get in the lineup," Wright said. "I want to be part of the fun." Wright has been limited to just eight games this season due to spinal stenosis.

Mookie Betts worked out Sunday and Monday and didn't experience any concussion-related symptoms.

"He had a good day Sunday," said Red Sox manager John Farrell. "Another good day [Monday] with the increase of physical activity. There's no reproducing of the concussion symptoms right now." Betts will travel with the Red Sox to Detroit this weekend, so it sounds like he could be activated later this week.

Josh Reddick (back) was a late scratch from the Athletics' lineup Tuesday.

Reddick had been slated to return to action after sitting out Monday with lower back soreness, but apparently he's not quite ready yet. Mark Canha replaced him in right field.
Aug 4 - 8:08 PM

Justin Upton (thumb) is absent from the Padres' lineup Tuesday.

Upton exited Monday's game with a bruised right thumb. The ailment doesn't seem to be serious, but he could require a few days of rest. Will Venable is in left field Tuesday, with Melvin Upton handling center.

Rockies purchased the contract of RHP Jon Gray from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Gray will make his major league debut on Tuesday night against the visiting Mariners after weeks of speculation that he was on the verge of a callup. The 23-year-old right-hander was sporting a 2.90 ERA and 82 strikeouts over his last 80 2/3 innings at Triple-A and could have value as a matchups-to-matchups play down the stretch. He's not a great fantasy bet in his debut against the M's at Coors Field.
Aug 4 - 6:02 PM

Red Sox purchased the contract of RHP Henry Owens from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Owens will make his major league debut on Tuesday night against the rival Yankees. The 23-year-old right-hander had registered a 3.16 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 103/56 K/BB ratio through 122 1/3 innings this season at Pawtucket and is worth a try in most mixed fantasy leagues. He was the No. 19 prospect on MLB.com's top 100 this winter.

Rangers optioned OF Leonys Martin to Triple-A Round Rock.

Martin has batted just .220/.265/.314 in 309 plate appearances this season for the Rangers, who will hope that a short demotion to the minors gets him going like it did for second baseman Rougned Odor. Delino DeShields Jr. has been serving as Texas' starting center fielder.
