Joe Mauer went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks in Wednesday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Mauer ends the season with a .319 average, his best mark since he hit an eye-popping .365 in 2009, and likely good enough for fourth in the American League. His .416 on-base percentage will go down as tops in all of baseball, however. Not bad for a player who was drawing boos at Target Field earlier this season. Six months shy of his 30th birthday, Mauer is signed with the Twins through 2018.

Lonnie Chisenhall (shoulder) will begin the season on the 10-day disabled list.

Chisenhall injured his right shoulder when he collided with the outfield wall last Friday and needs some extra time to heal. The Indians are optimistic that he could be ready as soon as the team's first homestand. With Chisenhall sidelined, Abraham Almonte will make the Opening Day roster.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus confirmed Wednesday that Matt Boyd has won a rotation spot.

This confirms what was reported on Tuesday night. Boyd earned the job after posting a a 2.49 ERA and 21/0 K/BB ratio across 21 2/3 innings during Grapefruit League action. Anibal Sanchez has made some strides recently, but he's set to begin the year in the bullpen.

Drew Smyly won't make his scheduled appearance on Friday due to an unspecified arm issue.

That's not what you want to hear with the season rapidly approaching. Mariners manager Scott Servais is waiting for more information on the situation, but he noted that Smyly "didn't feel great" and had a "soggy arm" coming out of his most recent bullpen session. It's worth noting that he missed a large chunk of the 2015 season due to a labrum tear. There should be more clarity on the situation soon.

Carlos Gomez (shoulder) has returned to the Rangers' lineup on Wednesday.

Gomez jammed his left shoulder on a slide into third base last Tuesday, but he's feeling better now. The 31-year-old outfielder finished strong last season and will serve as the Rangers' regular center fielder in 2017.

Astros manager A.J. Hinch announced Wednesday that Alex Bregman will hit second to begin the year.

That's music to fantasy owners' ears. While Bregman started out slow after his call-up last year, he turned things around in dramatic fashion down the stretch and finished with a .791 OPS. He has serious breakout potential in 2017. The Astros are going with George Springer, Bregman, Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, and Carlos Beltran with the top five spots in the order.

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, the announcement of Jeurys Familia's domestic violence suspension is expected on Wednesday.

The timing makes sense, as Familia reportedly traveled to New York earlier this week to meet with MLB commissioner Rob Manfred. While nothing is official yet, Billy Witz of the New York Times reported Monday that the suspension is "almost certain" to be lighter than the 30-game suspension Aroldis Chapman received one year ago. The Mets are expecting Addison Reed to fill in at closer while Familia serves his suspension.

Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Tigers are willing to eat the entirety of Mike Pelfrey's $8 million salary in order to move him in a trade.

Pelfrey never had a real shot at a rotation spot this spring, and he's struggled with a 7.36 ERA. It appears the Tigers would rather just free up the roster spot than try him out in long relief. While Detroit might be trying to deal him, he'll probably just wind up being released. Pelfrey held a 5.07 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in 2016.

Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports that Matt Boyd will open the season as the Tigers' fifth starter.

He beat out veteran Anibal Sanchez for the gig. Sanchez had an awful start this spring but came on really strong of late after tweaking his mechanics. However, Boyd has been arguably the Tigers' best pitcher all camp, putting up a 2.49 ERA and 21/0 K/BB ratio across 21 2/3 innings. The left-hander holds a 5.64 ERA over his first 154 2/3 frames in the majors, but he's been excellent in the minors and is a worthy late-round flier in fantasy formats. Sanchez will pitch in long relief.
Mar 28 - 7:48 PM

Amir Garrett and Rookie Davis have earned the final two spots in the Reds' rotation.

Bronson Arroyo is also expected to join them, Brandon Finnegan and Scott Feldman in the rotation, although Arroyo will have to make it out of his final tune-up with no issues first. If he falters, Cody Reed could get a spot. Robert Stephenson will be part of the bullpen. Garrett is a former college basketball player who has turned himself into a nice pitching prospect, having put up a 2.55 ERA and 132/59 K/BB ratio over 144 2/3 frames between Double- and Triple-A last season. His upside makes him a worthy deep-league flier, but he probably shouldn't be trusted in standard mixed leagues yet.
Mar 28 - 7:00 PM

Adam Duvall finished 3-for-4 with two homers and four RBI in the Reds' 9-3 victory over the Dodgers on Tuesday in Cactus League play.

Duvall hit an RBI single in the first inning, a solo homer in the fifth inning, and a two-run shot in the seventh inning. He's up to five home runs this spring, after delivering 33 homers and 103 RBI in 150 games last season for the Reds. The 28-year-old outfielder should again be a reliable source of power in 2017.
Mar 28 - 6:44 PM

Zack Greinke surrendered three earned runs over four innings Tuesday in his final Cactus League outing against the Mariners.

Greinke sat mostly in the 88-89 mph range with his fastball and topped out at 90.4 mph, per beat writer Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. That's not good for a guy who averaged 91.3 mph on that pitch in 2016 and 91.8 mph in 2015. He is still owed $172.5 million from the Diamondbacks.
