Dodgers recalled 1B-OF Scott Van Slyke from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Van Slyke hit just .167/.196/.315 with a couple homers over 27 games for the Dodgers this season. He'll be an option for the bench next year.

Corey Seager (wrist) is expected to return to the Dodgers' lineup on Wednesday.

Seager is sitting out Tuesday after getting struck by two pitches -- one off his left wrist -- on Monday night. X-rays came back negative on the National League Rookie of the Year frontrunner. Charlie Culberson is starting at shortstop for the Dodgers on Tuesday in Colorado.
Aug 30 - 7:17 PM

Clayton Kershaw (back) threw a two-inning simulated game on Tuesday afternoon.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the ace left-hander "came out of it well," but that Kershaw only worked two innings signals that he will probably have to make a minor league rehab start somewhere before returning to the Los Angeles rotation. Kershaw has been out since June 26 because of a herniated disc in his back. There should be something more official on his timetable Wednesday.

Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors reports that the Indians are working to acquire Coco Crisp.

The deal hasn't been finalized, but it sounds like it could be close -- so much so that Crisp has already waived his 10 & 5 rights. The 36-year-old outfielder is batting just .234/.299/.399 with 11 runs and seven stolen bases in 102 games this season for the Athletics, but Cleveland is trying to beef up its outfield depth with Michael Brantley (shoulder) ruled out for the rest of 2016. Abraham Almonte is not eligible to play in October due to his PED suspension from February, and top outfield prospect Bradley Zimmer is apparently not quite ready.
Aug 30 - 6:46 PM

Ivan Nova (hamstring) is on track to take his next turn in the Pirates' starting rotation.

Nova was forced to leave Sunday's outing against the Brewers after experiencing left hamstring discomfort, but he's felt steady improvement over the last couple of days. Nova has a strong 2.87 ERA, 0.989 WHIP, and 22/1 K/BB ratio in 31 1/3 innings (five starts) since joining the Pirates via trade from the Yankees. His next scheduled start is at home versus the Brewers.
Aug 30 - 6:36 PM

Gerrit Cole (elbow) expects to pitch again this season.

Cole was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday, retroactive to August 25, with posterior inflammation in his right elbow. An MRI showed no structural damage and he got a promising second opinion in Los Angeles on Tuesday. It's possible we see him again in mid-to-late September.
Aug 30 - 6:33 PM

John Lackey (shoulder) could return from the disabled list Sunday versus the Giants.

Lackey threw a successful bullpen session Monday and will go through a similar workout Thursday. The veteran right-hander has been on the disabled list since August 15 because of a minor shoulder strain. He holds a 3.41 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 156/43 K/BB ratio in 158 1/3 innings this season with the first-place Cubs.
Aug 30 - 6:26 PM

Jose Peraza (face) is in the Reds' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Angels.

Peraza left Monday's series opener in Anaheim after taking a pickoff throw off the side of his face. He escaped with some minor swelling and will start at shortstop and bat eighth for the Reds on Tuesday night.
Aug 30 - 6:22 PM

Hunter Pence (hamstring) is back in the Giants' starting lineup on Tuesday night.

Pence missed a handful of games with right hamstring tightness. He is starting in right field and batting sixth Tuesday versus Diamondbacks right-hander Zack Greinke.
Aug 30 - 6:11 PM

Adrian Gonzalez is out of the Dodgers' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Rockies.

Rob Segedin will start at first base and hit cleanup versus Colorado left-hander Tyler Anderson. This appears to be a routine night of maintenance for Gonzalez.
Aug 30 - 5:27 PM

Brandon Moss is absent from the Cardinals' starting lineup Tuesday night against the Brewers.

Matt Carpenter will be at first base and Tommy Pham will be in left field at Miller Park in Milwaukee. This appears to be a routine night off for Moss.
Aug 30 - 5:14 PM

Dexter Fowler is out of the Cubs' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Pirates.

Ben Zobrist will also take the night off. Matt Szczur is in center field and batting eighth and Javier Baez is at second base and batting leadoff versus Chad Kuhl.
