Braves GM Frank Wren said he doesn't believe Brian McCann will need offseason shoulder surgery.

McCann told reporters earlier this week that he expected to undergo surgery and miss up to five months, but apparently that hasn't been confirmed. The Braves are hoping McCann will have a normal offseason and report to spring training in February.

Denard Span (knee) is back in the Nationals' lineup Wednesday.

Span hadn't played since leaving Sunday's game with renewed discomfort in his right knee, but he's feeling ready to give it a go. The outfielder is batting .314/.356/.504 for the Nats this season.
Jun 3 - 3:36 PM

Salvador Perez (head) is not in the Royals' lineup Wednesday.

Perez passed concussion tests after leaving Tuesday's game following a foul tip to the mask, but he has a bit of a headache Wednesday. The Royals will hope he's ready to go on Thursday. Drew Butera is filling in behind the dish.
Jun 3 - 3:01 PM

Hunter Pence is not in Wednesday's lineup due to a minor left wrist injury.

You always have to worry a bit when it's a wrist injury, but it seems the Giants are convinced this is a minor issue. The Giants are off Thursday, so they'll shoot for Pence to be back in there Friday.
Jun 3 - 2:55 PM

Yankees designated RHP David Carpenter for assignment.

Carpenter has struggled this season, holding a 4.82 ERA with just 11 strikeouts over 18 2/3 innings. His velocity has been fine, though, so it's a surprise to see the Yankees give up on him considering his 2.63 ERA and over a strikeout per frame across the previous two seasons. The Yanks should be able to find a trade partner for him.
Jun 3 - 2:13 PM

Yankees activated RHP Masahiro Tanaka from the 15-day disabled list.

Tanaka will rejoin the rotation on Wednesday against the Mariners and is slated for 80-85 pitches. The right-hander missed the last five and a half weeks with a right forearm strain and right wrist tendinitis. He remains a big health risk but obviously needs to be played by fantasy owners while he's on the mound.
Jun 3 - 2:09 PM

Cameron Maybin (groin) is back in the Braves' lineup Wednesday.

Maybin sat out the last two contests with a minor groin injury but is ready to go now. He sports a nice .290/.371/.409 batting line for Atlanta this season.
Jun 3 - 1:20 PM

Ryan Braun has flown to Los Angeles in order to receive another cryotherapy shot in his right thumb.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said it's a pre-planned thing rather than Braun having a setback. Obviously, it's something to keep a close eye on, though, with Braun having hit just .194/.242/.226 over his last seven games. It's possible he'll be ready to play by Friday, but Counsell isn't counting on Braun until Sunday.
Jun 3 - 11:57 AM

Josh Hamilton (hamstring) is expected to sit out again Wednesday.

Hamilton is dealing with some tightness in his left hamstring and will miss a second straight game. It's not viewed as a big deal, as the outfielder remains day-to-day.
Jun 3 - 11:46 AM

A.J. Griffin (elbow) allowed just one hit while striking out three over three scoreless frames in his first rehab start with High-A Stockton.

Griffin had to be shut down a bit after developing some shoulder soreness, but he's back on track now. Working his way back from Tommy John surgery, the right-hander figures to need a full 30 days on a rehab assignment, putting him on pace to rejoin the A's rotation in early July.
Jun 3 - 9:50 AM

Mets activated RHP Dillon Gee from the 15-day disabled list.

He'll rejoin the rotation on Wednesday in San Diego as the Mets go to a six-man rotation. Gee holds a 3.86 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over five starts this season and has missed the last month with a strained groin.
Jun 3 - 9:44 AM

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Red Sox have acquired Alejandro De Aza from the Orioles.

There's no word yet on what the Orioles will be getting in return or how much of what's remaining on his $5 million contract they might be picking up. De Aza was designated for assignment by Baltimore last Friday after batting just .214/.277/.359 over 30 games. Boston certainly isn't an ideal landing spot for him given all the other outfield options that they have.
