Alex Rodriguez had another dreadful playoff performance on Saturday, going 0-for-3 with a strikeout as the Yankees dropped Game 1 of the ALCS to the Tigers.

To be fair, he did smash a ground ball to Jhonny Peralta with the bases loaded in the first inning that could have been an RBI single if not for a fantastic defensive effort. A-Rod then bounced into a double play in the third inning and struck out with two men on in the sixth before being lifted for a pinch-hitter in the eighth. Rodriguez is now 2-for-19 (.105) this postseason with 11 strikeouts.

Giants placed 2B Joe Panik on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

While Panik passed his concussion tests three days running after being hit in the head with a ball in mid-June, the symptoms came back to the point where the Giants were forced to sit him on Tuesday. Until he is ready to return, expect Ramiro Pena to receive increased at-bats.

Aaron Sanchez was fantastic in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Rockies, firing eight innings of one-run ball.

Sanchez scattered six hits while walking two over his eight innings of work. While he didn't have the strikeout working -- he fanned just three on the afternoon -- he proved lethally efficient and threw just 106 pitches during his extended time on the mound. The 23-year-old right-hander will carry a 3.08 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 96/34 K/BB ratio (105 1/3 innings) into a home date with the Royals next time he toes the rubber.

Curtis Granderson (calf) has been scratched from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals.

Granderson was initially penciled-in to bat leadoff against Max Scherzer on Wednesday, but after testing his strained right calf in pregame exercises, it looks like he will be riding the pine for the day. Alejandro De Aza will take over leadoff duties in his place. This is thought to be a minor injury, but the veteran outfielder might receive another game or two off just to be on the safe side.
Jun 29 - 6:21 PM

Melky Cabrera (wrist) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins.

Cabrera is dealing with a sprained right wrist, one that he rolled over while fielding a single two weekends ago. While he has played in the interim, he is now expected to miss at least three or four days in order to allow the injury to heal fully. In his place on Wednesday, Avisail Garcia is manning left field and will hit eighth.
Jun 29 - 5:29 PM

Joc Pederson (shoulder) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Pederson was diagnosed with a bruised AC joint in the right shoulder after he ran into the wall while tracking down -- and catching -- a long Chris Carter fly on Tuesday. He did not sustain any broken bones in the collision, but nobody can blame manager Dave Roberts for giving him a day off or two. Trayce Thompson will man center and bat sixth in Wednesday's game.

Billy Hamilton has been placed under the concussion protocol after being hit in the head with a fly ball on Wednesday.

Hamilton was hit on the left side of the face by an Anthony Rizzo fly ball while attempting to chase it down along with outfielder Adam Duvall. After the ball hit Hamilton, it resulted in an inside-the-park homer. Manager Bryan Price spoke to his current standing in the concussion protocol. "He [has] done some concussion protocol things that haven’t shown anything. It [is] something that has to be followed up on." A trip to the 7-day concussion disabled list is in play at this point.

Adam Duvall his his National League-leading 22nd homer Wednesday against the Cubs.

It was a solo shot against Kyle Hendricks in the fourth inning. Duvall finished the afternoon 2-for-3 with a rare walk. He’s hitting .254 with a .291 on-base percentage, but the power has made him one of the biggest surprises in fantasy leagues during the first half of the season.

Jonathan Papelbon (intercostal) threw 30 pitches in a simulated game on Wednesday.

Things went well, but the plan calls for him to report to Double-A Harrisburg to make back-to-back appearances before being activated. Look for him to return over the weekend. Shawn Kelley will continue to fill in at closer for now.
Jun 29 - 3:51 PM

Mat Latos told Bruce Levine of WSCR-AM that he has signed a minor league deal with the Nationals, pending a physical.

Latos was cut loose by the White Sox earlier this month after posting a 4.62 ERA over 11 starts. The veteran right-hander will serve as rotation depth with his new team.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Dodgers are interested in Rays right-hander Erasmo Ramirez.

The idea would be to use Ramirez as a stopgap option in the starting rotation. Ramirez has pitched almost exclusively in relief with the Rays this season while posting a 3.68 ERA and 38/12 K/BB ratio in 51 1/3 innings, but he has had success as a starter in the past. He just became arbitration-eligible for the first time last winter as a Super Two player, so the Rays would probably seek a nice piece in return in order to get a deal done with Andrew Friedman and company.
Jun 29 - 3:39 PM

Yu Darvish (shoulder) threw three innings in a simulated game Wednesday.

Darvish, who is working his way back from right shoulder discomfort, threw to teammates Jurickson Profar and Ryan Rua. Rangers pitching coach Doug Brocail was encouraged by what he saw, but they'd wait to see how he feels Thursday before deciding on the next step. It's possible he could be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment as early as next Monday or Tuesday.
