Ryan Ludwick has declined his part of a $5 million mutual option with the Reds for 2013.

Not unexpected after Ludwick batted .275/.346/.531 with 26 home runs, 80 RBI and an .877 OPS this season. He'll receive a $500,000 buyout and test free agency. However, there is mutual interest in getting a new deal done.

Byron Buxton was pulled from Monday's game with Triple-A Rochester.

Danny Santana exited Monday's game with a left hamstring strain, so it appears that the Twins are preparing to place him on the disabled list and bring Buxton back from Triple-A. The 22-year-old was demoted in late April after batting just .156/.208/.289 in 49 plate appearances, but he came into Monday's action hitting .333/.402/.605 with six homers and four steals over 28 games in Triple-A. He'll be worth consideration in most mixed leagues assuming he gets the call.

Danny Santana exited Monday's game against the Athletics in the seventh inning with a left hamstring strain.

Santana, who missed time with a right hamstring strain earlier this season, hurt his left hamstring while running to second base on a sacrifice bunt. It will be interesting to see if the Twins call up Byron Buxton if the injury requires a trip to the disabled list. Stay tuned.
May 30 - 6:26 PM

Jason Hammel left Monday's start due to a right hamstring cramp.

Hammel was forced to exit the game after two innings. The Cubs say that he's currently being evaluated, so no other information is available at this time. More should be known after the game or perhaps on Tuesday.

Angels activated RHP Huston Street from the 15-day disabled list.

Street has been sidelined since April 23 with an oblique strain. Joe Smith filled in at closer during his absence, but he'll move back into a set-up role.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Monday that Dustin Ackley (shoulder) could require surgery.

Ackley, who was placed on the disabled list Monday, was diagnosed with a torn labrum in his right shoulder. Either way, he's facing a lengthy absence. There should be more clarity on his status in the coming days.
May 30 - 5:26 PM

Carlos Martinez struck out eight batters over eight scoreless innings Monday in the Cardinals' 6-0 victory over the Brewers.

Martinez was 0-5 with a 6.84 ERA in May entering the Memorial Day outing at Miller Park in Milwaukee, but he finished the month with an exclamation point. The hard-throwing righty yielded just five hits -- all singles -- and only issued one walk. He now stands 5-5 with a 3.69 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 50 strikeouts in 61 innings (10 starts) this season. Martinez gets the Giants at home next.
May 30 - 5:03 PM

Yunel Escobar (wrist) is not in Monday's lineup against the Tigers.

Escobar bruised his right wrist on Sunday and will get a day of rest. Gregorio Petit will start at third base Monday while Kole Calhoun will bat leadoff.
May 30 - 4:55 PM

Steven Wright allowed two runs in a complete-game 9-2 victory over the Orioles on Monday.

It was his third complete game of the season, which ties him with Chris Sale, Clayton Kershaw, and Johnny Cueto for the MLB lead. Not a bad group. He threw a career-high 122 pitches to go the distance. The knuckleballer walked five and struck out seven. Wright gave up just four hits, including three of them in a two-run fifth inning. However, he bounced back from there by retiring 13 out of the final 15 batters he faced. Wright has now thrown seven innings or more in four out of his last five starts. He’ll bring a surprising 2.45 ERA into a start against the Blue Jays at home this weekend.
May 30 - 4:51 PM

David Ortiz (foot) slugged a solo homer and drew a walk Monday against the Orioles.

This guy. Ortiz was hit in his left foot by a pitch on Saturday and had to be scratched on Sunday due to some lingering soreness, but he felt well enough to give it a go on Monday and has now homered in three straight games. He hasn’t homered in three straight games since July 2014. The 40-year-old continues to go out on a high note. He’s slashing .337/.419/.727 with 14 homers and 47 RBI.
May 30 - 4:49 PM

Xander Bogaerts went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a walk, and two RBI in Monday’s win over the Orioles.

Bogaerts is now riding a 23-game hitting streak. He has multi-hit games in three straight and six out of his last nine. His .354 batting average is tops in the American League and he leads the majors with 75 hits.
May 30 - 4:49 PM

David Wright said Monday that he is dealing with a herniated disk in his neck.

Wright has now missed three straight games with the neck issue and appears likely to hit the disabled list. More should be known about his status on Tuesday, but the Mets will likely use a combination of Wilmer Flores and Ty Kelly at third base for now.
