Brandon McCarthy has already drawn interest from numerous teams on the free agent market.

The Athletics remain interested in re-signing the 29-year-old right-hander, but it looks like they'll have competition for his services. McCarthy posted a 3.24 ERA and 72/24 K/BB ratio over 111 innings before his season was ended prematurely due to a head injury. Barring any post-concussion setbacks, he will be cleared to pitch by spring training.

Angel Pagan singled, doubled and triple in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Yankees.

Pagan finished 3-for-5, but alas, he couldn't find the power stroke and missed out on the cycle by a home run. The outfielder's three-hit afternoon pushed his triple-slash to .292/.337/.432. In terms of counting stats, he has five homers, 33 RBI, 37 runs scored and nine steals in 250 at-bats.

Marlins placed LHP Wei-Yin Chen on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 21, with a left elbow sprain.

Chen having an elbow issue was first reported by SiriusXM's Craig Mish. Manager Don Mattingly said that the club is hopeful the injury isn't serious, but it sounds like they might not know for sure until after Chen is examined further. Jarred Cosart has placed Chen in the rotation for the time being, but the Marlins are expected to seek rotation help before the trade deadline.

Addison Russell exited Sunday's game against the Brewers with a bruised left heel.

He fouled a ball off the heel Saturday and it got progressively sore on him Sunday. The Cubs are saying his removal was precautionary, so consider Russell day-to-day. Javier Baez is likely to fill in at shortstop for any amount of time that Russell might miss.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that the Diamondbacks "have let teams know Shelby Miller is available in a trade."

Passan, rather obviously, notes that the price to acquire Miller "isn't nearly what it cost them eight months ago." The right-hander's stock has dropped so much after a 7.14 ERA in 14 starts and a demotion to the minors that you've got to wonder if the D'Backs aren't better off riding it out. Perhaps they think they can capitalize somewhat on a depressed starting pitching market. Robert Murray of FanRag Sports reports that the Dodgers and Marlins are among the teams that have inquired on Miller.

Bruce Levine of WSCR-AM and 670thescore.com reports that the Indians "have the best names on the table" for Aroldis Chapman.

Previous reports have had both the Nationals and Cubs out in front in the sweepstakes for Chapman. There's also been a "mystery team" floated. In other words, welcome to the trade deadline. The Indians already have a capable closer in Cody Allen, but adding Chapman would bolster their bullpen for a possible playoff run.

Carlos Rodon (wrist) will make a rehab start with Triple-A Charlotte on Monday.

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said whether Rodon needs an additional rehab start will depend on how he feels. In other words, he should rejoin the Pale Hose rotation later this week as long as he doesn't have a setback. Rodon has missed two and a half weeks with a sprained left wrist.
Jul 24 - 1:52 PM

Logan Morrison (wrist) remained out of the Rays' lineup Sunday.

Morrison hasn't played in a week due to a wrist issue. Rays manager Kevin Cash said recently that the injury was getting worse, although the club obviously hasn't placed LoMo on the disabled list yet. Steve Pearce is at first base Sunday.
Jul 24 - 1:42 PM

Tyler Skaggs will make his season debut for the Angels on Tuesday in Kansas City.

Skaggs has completed his rehab from Tommy John surgery and also from a shoulder ailment that cropped up earlier this season. The usual caution should be applied here with anyone coming back from Tommy John surgery, but Skaggs was dominant of late for Triple-A Salt Lake, allowing just two runs while striking out 26 over his last 12 2/3 frames. He's worth a flier in deeper mixed leagues.
Jul 24 - 1:20 PM

Orioles activated RHP Darren O'Day from the 15-day disabled list.

O'Day has been on the shelf since early June with a nagging hamstring injury. He'll return to a setup role.
Jul 24 - 1:14 PM

The White Sox have suspended Chris Sale five games for his conduct in a clubhouse incident prior to Saturday's game.

Sale cut up some throwback uniforms with a knife after getting into a heated argument with the front office about not wanting to wear the uniforms Saturday. The left-hander is tentatively slated to rejoin the White Sox' rotation on Thursday against the Cubs. General manager Rick Hahn said that the incident won't affect the club's decision on whether to trade the lefty or not, although that could just be GM speak.
Jul 24 - 12:57 PM

Josh Reddick (back) remained out of the Athletics' lineup Sunday.

It's a second straight game that he's missed due to a sore back. Reddick is considered day-to-day. Jake Smolinski is in right field Sunday.
