Adam Wainwright said Sunday that he wants to stay in St. Louis and is ready to begin long-term negotiations.

Wainwright is under contract through 2013 but will be a free agent after that. "In brief talks with (Cardinals executives) they feel real good about me coming back for a long time, and I want to make that happen," the 31-year-old right-hander said. "I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t make that happen." It seems feasible that a long-term deal can be worked out this winter.

Andrew Triggs set a personal best with nine strikeouts over seven shutout innings in the Athletics' 2-1 win over the Astros on Saturday.

One start after getting beatdown by the Mariners, Triggs rebounded with his best start of his abbreviated major league career. The nine strikeouts bested the eight he recorded in a start last year, and it was actually the first time he'd gotten through seven innings as a member of the A's. The 28-year-old has now held the opposition without an earned run in four of his five starts, good for a 1.84 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in 29 1/3 innings. Triggs will seek an encore performance Friday against the Tigers.

Wade Davis struck out three in a scoreless ninth inning, and the Cubs defeated the Red Sox 7-4 on Saturday.

Davis did yield a single but got all three outs by way of strikeout, getting Jackie Bradley, Christian Vazquez and Marco Hernandez to end it. Davis now has six saves on the year, having not allowed a run with a 0.58 WHIP in 10 1/3 innings of work.

Rich Hill (blister) will throw 60 pitches in a rehab start for Class-A Rancho Cucamonga Thursday, according to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.

Hill threw a 48-pitch simulated game Saturday and came out of it unscathed, paving the way for Thursday's rehab start. If that goes well, the southpaw will return to the Dodgers in the second week of May. Blisters have been a huge issue for Hill in recent years, marring his career resurgence. When on the mound he's been terrific, though.

Ian Desmond "seems poised" to make his Rockies debut in left field Sunday, per Thomas Harding of MLB.com.

Harding also said Desmond is "in line" to get the start against Diamondbacks southpaw Patrick Corbin, despite no official word from the club. Desmond has been hitting the cover off the ball in extended spring, and Rockies manager Bud Black said he and Desmond would talk Saturday before any decision was made. The 31-year-old has been sidelined since March 12 with a fractured left hand. His fantasy upside is huge in a strong Rockies lineup and playing half his games at Coors Field.

Shelby Miller has opted to undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, Barry M. Bloom of MLB.com reports.

"After taking some time and sitting back for a couple of days and talking to everybody and getting all the information that I could, I'm just going to go ahead and get the surgery done," Miller said. "With where I am in my career and how many years I have ahead of me, I think it's the logical thing to do." Miller said he's hopeful to be back on a mound next spring, but more realistically he'll probably be out until late 2018 or perhaps even the start of the 2019 season.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports that OF Adam Eaton has been diagnosed with a torn ACL in his left knee and will miss the rest of the season.

He was injured while beating out an infield single against the Mets on Friday night. He had to be helped off the field at the time but the severity of the injury was unknown until now. This is a major blow to the Nationals' chances of winning the National Leage East division. They acquired him from the White Sox over the winter by trading two elite pitching prospects, Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez. Recovery from a torn ACL can take a year, meaning he could be questionable for the start of next season. Michael Taylor will likely replace Eaton in the starting lineup moving forward.

Pirates placed 3B David Freese on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to April 25, with a strained right hamstring.

Freese hasn't played since straining his hamstring in Monday's game against the Cubs. The Pirates finally realized his leg wasn't healing fast enough to avoid placing him on the DL. Freese has been one of the club's best hitters in the early going, batting .321/.418/.536 with three home runs and 10 RBI. Outfielder Danny Ortiz was called up from Triple-A to take Freese's place on the roster.

Angels placed LHP Tyler Skaggs on the 10-day disabled list with a right oblique injury.

He suffered the injury in the fifth inning of Friday's game against the Rangers. No word yet from the team regarding the severity of the injury or how long Skaggs will be out, although oblique injuries often lead to extended absences.

Giants transferred SS Brandon Crawford from the three-day bereavement list to the 10-day disabled list.

He was on the bereavement list due to a death in the family but was also suffering from a strained groin that will keep him sidelined for at least another week. His DL stint was backdated to April 26th.

Brett Gardner hit two home runs and plated four RBI as the Yankees thrashed the Orioles 12-4 on Saturday.

He got things started in a hurry, leading off the Yankees' half of the first inning with a solo blast off Ubaldo Jimenez. He got another chance in the second inning and took Jimenez deep again, this time with two runners aboard. Prior to today Gardner had not homered nor driven in a run this season. Maybe this game will jumpstart his engine. He is batting just .206/.325/.338 with two homers, 12 runs scored, four RBI and five stolen bases in 80 plate appearances.
Apr 29 - 5:19 PM

Aaron Judge went 2-for-2 with two walks, drilled a two-run homer and scored four times in Saturday's thrashing of the Orioles.

The home run landed well beyond the bullpens in right center field and was his 10th longball of the season. Only Eric Thames and Ryan Zimmerman have more. Judge has been tearing the cover off the ball all April, now batting .301/.393/.767 with 22 runs scored and 20 RBI.
