Rays signed RHP Joel Peralta to a two-year, $6 million contract with a $2.5 million club option for 2015.

Peralta still has to pass a physical, but there aren't expected to be any problems there. The 36-year-old right-hander posted a 3.63 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 84/17 K/BB ratio in 67 innings this past season for the Rays and should do well in his familiar setup role again in 2013.

Kyle Schwarber punished a pair of solo home runs Tuesday in Cleveland.

Schwarber took Josh Tomlin deep in the second inning and again in the fourth. The young left-handed swinger is up to six longballs on the season after the two-homer night, and his batting line is up to .302/.413/.635. It's quite a different start than the one he got off to last year.

Christian Villanueva (hamstring) likely won't return to the Padres' starting lineup before Friday.

Villanueva was scratched from the Padres' lineup Monday with a sore hamstring and he's not playing Tuesday either. "We just want to make sure he gets this behind him," manager Andy Green said Tuesday evening. "Then it probably leads to the question: If we don't play him tonight, is it even smart to play him tomorrow, because we get the off-day (Thursday) as well? Probably better judgement would prevail, and we'll see him in the lineup again on Friday."
Apr 24 - 9:19 PM

Tuesday night's game between the Pirates and Tigers has been postponed due to inclement weather in Pittsburgh.

Chad Kuhl was scheduled to face off against Jordan Zimmermann at PNC Park. They'll instead match up in the first half of a traditional doubleheader on Wednesday, with first pitch scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET.
Apr 24 - 8:46 PM

Xander Bogaerts (ankle) went 2-for-3 with a homer and a double Tuesday in his first rehab game at Triple-A Pawtucket.

Good stuff from the 25-year-old shortstop, who could be activated from the disabled list on Friday. Bogaerts is scheduled for another rehab game at Pawtucket on Wednesday and will then take the day off Thursday. He's been sidelined since April 9 with a small fracture in his left ankle.
Apr 24 - 7:55 PM

Rich Hill (finger) is expecting to return to the Dodgers' rotation Monday in Arizona.

Hill made it through a simulated game Tuesday without experiencing any issues with his cracked left middle fingernail. The veteran southpaw had a disappointing 6.00 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, and 16/7 K/BB ratio through 15 innings (three starts) this season with Los Angeles. He was placed on the disabled list April 15.
Apr 24 - 6:46 PM

Padres purchased the contract of LHP Eric Lauer from Triple-A El Paso.

Lauer, the 25th overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft, will make his major league debut on Tuesday night in Colorado. He owns a promising 3.04 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 188 strikeouts in 171 2/3 professional innings, but streaming him at Coors Field wouldn't seem to be a very good idea.
Apr 24 - 5:39 PM

Jason Vargas (hand) is set to make his Mets debut on Saturday in San Diego.

As anticipated. Vargas suffered a fracture in his right (non-throwing) hand when he was struck by a comebacker during a Grapefruit League start back on March 16. He'll wind up missing just under a month of the regular-season schedule. The veteran left-hander doesn't miss many bats, but he might have some fantasy streaming appeal in the right matchups.
Apr 24 - 5:13 PM

Tuesday's game between the Orioles and Rays has been postponed due to inclement weather in Baltimore.

Alex Cobb was scheduled to face off against Jake Faria at Camden Yards. The game will be made up with a doubleheader on May 12. Cobb and Faria figure to pitch Wednesday night, with the forecast looking more favorable.
Apr 24 - 4:55 PM

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Tuesday that Josh Donaldson (shoulder) could get into some rehab games by the end of this week.

There is expected to be a more detailed plan announced Wednesday. Donaldson was placed on the disabled list April 13, retroactive to April 11, because of inflammation in his right (throwing) shoulder. Yangervis Solarte continues to fill in at the hot corner for Toronto.
Apr 24 - 4:30 PM

Tommy Pham (groin) is back in the Cardinals' starting lineup Tuesday against the Mets.

Pham missed a couple of games with a tight groin. He is starting in center field and batting second Tuesday night against Mets right-hander Zack Wheeler.
Apr 24 - 4:16 PM

Andrelton Simmons (forearm) is back in the Angels' starting lineup Tuesday against the Astros.

Simmons sat out Monday's game after being hit on the right forearm with a pitch on Sunday, but fortunately it was nothing serious. He's hitting fifth against right-hander Charlie Morton.
