R.A. Dickey told Marc Carig of Newsday that contract talks with the Mets "have progressed."

Dickey added that he "feels the franchise is going the right direction." The Mets have picked up the knuckleballer's $5 million option for 2013, but they would like to lock him up for at least a couple more years after that. Dickey was announced Wednesday as one of the finalists for the NL Cy Young award.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post was told that Michael Pineda is dealing with a right forearm muscle strain, not an elbow issue.

Sherman says it's not considered serious, but Pineda has been scratched from his scheduled start Thursday night against the Rangers and it's not clear when he might be ready to pitch next. Bryan Mitchell will take the mound for the Yankees, who may now have a little more urgency to add a starter ahead of the July 31 trade deadline.

Blue Jays acquired LHP David Price from the Tigers for LHPs Daniel Norris, Jairo Labourt, and Matt Boyd.

Price had been drawing heavy interest from the Dodgers, Yankees, Cubs, and Giants, but the Blue Jays beat all the other offers. It's a risky play to give up so much young, cost-controlled talent for what could be a 2-3 month rental -- Price is eligible for free agency after the World Series -- but the Jays feel they can make a postseason push and they've now combined two of the top trade targets on this year's market. Troy Tulowitzki was acquired from the Rockies earlier this week.

Tigers acquired LHPs Daniel Norris, Jairo Labourt, and Matt Boyd from the Blue Jays for LHP David Price.

Norris hasn't shown a whole lot yet at the major league level, but the 22-year-old left-hander entered the 2015 season as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball and the Tigers get six years of him for 2-3 months of Price. Labourt and Boyd also carry considerable upside. It's a nice haul for the retooling Detroit front office.

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Tigers are "working to trade" closer Joakim Soria.

Soria would make sense for the Blue Jays -- the team the Tigers just traded David Price to -- but it doesn't appear there's anything happening on that front. Soria, 31, has a 2.85 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 36/11 K/BB ratio in 41 innings this season for Detroit and he is 23-for-26 in save opportunities. As usual, just about every contending club is looking for relief help.

According to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Carlos Gomez trade to the Mets broke down primarily over financial issues.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported late Wednesday night that the proposal fell apart because of Gomez's hip, but agent Scott Boras and Brewers GM Doug Melvin are vehemently rejecting that angle. It should be noted that there's posturing going on here from all sides -- the Brewers want other teams to believe Gomez is fully healthy, and questioning the Mets' desire to spend is an easy alibi. The 29-year-old center fielder is still very much on the trade block, but talks have obviously been called off with the Mets.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that the Rays are listening to offers for Nate Karns.

Passan says Karns is drawing interest "from a number of teams," and rightly so. The 27-year-old right-hander has posted an impressive 3.37 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 106/40 K/BB ratio across 115 innings this season for Tampa Bay and he is under contractual control through 2020. It'll probably take a big return for the Rays to move him.
Jul 30 - 11:21 AM

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Phillies' next trade could involve Ben Revere.

Rosenthal says at least one American League club has expressed interest in the 27-year-old speedster, who entered play Thursday with a .298/.335/.376 slash line and 24 stolen bases in 95 games. Revere, who's under contractual control through 2017, would be a nice bench addition for any contending team.

MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan reports that there's a possibility of Yovani Gallardo being traded to the Blue Jays.

Texas just beefed up its rotation with the Cole Hamels trade, but the club is still buried in the American League Wild Card race and could sell some parts. Gallardo is due to become a free agent this winter. If the price is right, it sounds like the Rangers will move him.
Jul 30 - 10:46 AM

Cardinals acquired 1B/OF Brandon Moss from the Indians for LHP Rob Kaminsky.

Moss has struggled to produce consistent numbers offensively since developing a hip injury last summer and there hasn't been much indication that he's going to turn it around. The 31-year-old does have some pop and he does fit the Cardinals' need for a corner outfield and first base type with Matt Holliday (quad) back on the shelf, but Kaminsky is no small price. Moss, who's under contractual control through 2016, will likely split time between first base and left field in St. Louis.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Tyson Ross is drawing "intense interest" from many.

Heyman suspects that the Astros may be at the forefront, though he also ties in the Blue Jays, Cubs, Dodgers, and "many, many others." Ross, 28, owns a 3.03 ERA and 332 strikeouts in 323 1/3 innings since the beginning of the 2014 season and he is under contract through 2017. Everybody loves a good, cost-controlled starting pitcher.

Red Sox manager John Farrell acknowledged Wednesday that Pablo Sandoval's weight is an issue.

It's the first time Farrell has addressed this topic since spring training, when he was in full support of Boston's new acquisition. The burly third baseman got thrown out at home on a ball he should have scored on Wednesday night against the White Sox and had to be lifted from the game two innings later due to dehydration. "There are ongoing efforts to support that, to try to get him in the best shape possible," said Farrell. "That's something Pablo has dealt with his entire career. It continues to be addressed."
