Rangers signed RHP Zach Simons to a minor league contract.

Simons had a 3.57 ERA and 47/29 K/BB ratio in 58 innings this past season between the Rockies' Double-A and Triple-A affiliates. He turns 28 years old next May.

Matt Harvey held the Yankees to two runs over 8 2/3 innings Saturday in the Mets' 8-2 victory.

Harvey nearly notched his second career complete game, but Mets manager Terry Collins gave him the hook after he walked Brian McCann with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Probably the right move. Harvey struck out seven and yielded just five hits, moving to 4-0 with a 3.04 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 31/3 K/BB ratio in 26 2/3 innings. He gets the Nationals at home next.

Jacoby Ellsbury left Saturday's game with hip tightness.

He went 0-for-3 before exiting in the eighth inning. The Yankees are hopeful Ellsbury won't miss any time, but if he does sit out Sunday, expect Chris Young to fill in at center field.
Apr 25 - 7:09 PM

Giancarlo Stanton went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in Saturday's 8-0 win over the Nationals.

Stanton singled in the first inning, doubled and scored in the fourth inning, walked and scored in the sixth inning, and then slugged a no-doubt homer to left-center off Nats reliever Rafael Martin in the eighth. He now boasts a .946 OPS with five home runs and 16 RBI through 18 games this season.
Apr 25 - 6:57 PM

Joel Peralta is dealing with "dead arm" and may require a stint on the disabled list.

Peralta doesn't have any pain but his shoulder feels weak. Dead arm happens to pitchers often in spring training but isn't as common during the regular season. Peralta has done well as the Dodgers' fill-in closer, converting all three of his save opportunities without allowing a run. If Peralta lands on the DL, Los Angeles would likely turn to Chris Hatcher in the ninth inning. Kenley Jansen (foot) is nearing a rehab assignment but might not be back with the team until mid-May.
Apr 25 - 6:14 PM

Saturday's game between the Cubs and the Reds has been postponed due to rain.

The teams sat through a four-hour rain delay before the game was called. No makeup date has been announced. Anthony DeSclafani and Jake Arrieta will have their starts pushed back to Sunday. The Cubs won 7-3 Friday in the series opener.
Apr 25 - 5:33 PM

Red Sox placed OF Shane Victorino on the 15-day disabled list with a hamstring strain.

Another season, another Victorino injury. The 34-year-old spent most of last year on the DL and couldn't make it three weeks into the 2015 campaign before getting hurt again. With Rusney Castillo (shoulder) also injured, Allen Craig and Daniel Nava will fill the void in right field. Fantasy owners won't miss Victorino much, as he was only hitting .143 prior to getting sidelined.
Apr 25 - 5:05 PM

Yasiel Puig (hamstring) is not in the Dodgers' starting lineup on Saturday night.

Andre Ethier is starting in right field instead. Puig aggravated his left hamstring on Friday night and is considered day-to-day for now. He missed four games earlier this week with the same hamstring issue.
Apr 25 - 5:01 PM

Padres activated RHP Ian Kennedy from the 15-day disabled list.

Kennedy missed his first few turns through the rotation because of a strained hamstring. He opted for extended spring training instead of a minor league rehab assignment and will make his 2015 debut on Saturday night against the Dodgers. The 30-year-old workhorse led San Diego in wins, innings pitched, and strikeouts last season. Lefty reliever Frank Garces was sent down to Triple-A El Paso in the corresponding roster move.
Apr 25 - 4:53 PM

Alfredo Simon won his fourth consecutive start on Saturday, allowing just one run on six hits over 6 2/3 innings against the Indians.

Simon punched out three and walked a pair on the afternoon. The only blemish on his day was an RBI single by Michael Brantley in the third inning. He has been quite the find for the Tigers thus far, registering a 1.65 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 15/4 K/BB ratio over 27 1/3 innings. He'll look to extend that dominance when he takes on the Royals in Kansas City on Thursday.
Apr 25 - 4:14 PM

Blue Jays released LHP Ricky Romero.

He has battled chronic knee injuries and extreme control problems in recent seasons and hasn't been a viable starter at the major league level since 2011. Still, he's only 30-years-old and might make sense for some organizations as a reclamation project.
Apr 25 - 3:21 PM

Ben Zobrist is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.

The typical time frame for recovery is 4-to-6 weeks. The Athletics have enough moving parts and versatility to overcome his absence in the short term. Eric Sogard should see most of the work at second base while Zobrist is on the shelf.
