According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, Mariners president Chuck Armstrong said that the club is "looking at" free agent outfielder Josh Hamilton.

"[GM Jack Zduriencik] is looking at it," said Armstrong, who cautioned that the Mariners are still formulating their plans for free agency. "We are going to have more money to spend. And we do need offense." There's all sorts of risk involved with Hamilton, but there's no question that he would be a huge improvement for an offense which has been at or near the bottom in runs scored since 2007. Hamilton reportedly seeks a seven-year, $175 million contract, but a front-runner has yet to emerge in the early days of free agency.

Homer Bailey (elbow) said Monday that he expects to be shut down for 5-7 days.

Bailey got roughed up in his most recent minor league rehab start last Tuesday and it was revealed on Sunday that he suffered a slight setback. It's not believed to be serious, so the Reds are hoping that a few days of rest will get him back on track. Bailey was previously expected to rejoin the Reds by mid-May, but his timetable is up in the air right now.

Braves optioned INF Jace Peterson to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Peterson was batting .182/.260/.205 in 50 plate appearances this season at the major league level. The former supplemental first-round draft pick has posted good numbers in the minors, but it just hasn't translated.
May 2 - 3:55 PM

Yu Darvish (elbow) will make his next rehab start Friday with Triple-A Round Rock.

He'll go three innings, or around 45 pitches. Darvish was excellent in his rehab debut this weekend with Double-A Frisco, striking out two batters over two hitless innings. He's on track to join the Rangers' starting rotation around the end of May. The ace right-hander is 14 months removed from Tommy John surgery.
May 2 - 3:40 PM

Randal Grichuk is out of the Cardinals' starting lineup on Monday night against the Phillies.

Grichuk was able to emerge from his brutal early-season slump, but he's back to flailing again so the Cardinals will give him a night of mental and physical rest. Stephen Piscotty is in center field, Brandon Moss is in right, and Matt Adams is at first base versus Phillies right-hander Jeremy Hellickson.
May 2 - 3:18 PM

Jason Heyward is not in the Cubs' starting lineup Monday night against the Pirates.

It's just a day of rest for the $184 million right fielder, who went 0-for-5 on Sunday and is batting .211/.317/.256 over his first 104 plate appearances with the Cubs.
May 2 - 3:05 PM

Angel Pagan (hamstring) is out Monday versus the Reds.

Mac Williamson, called up Monday morning, will start in left field and bat sixth against Cincinnati left-hander Brandon Finnegan. Pagan suffered a mild hamstring on Sunday and will likely be out for much of this week, though he is expected to avoid the disabled list.
May 2 - 2:46 PM

Zach Britton (ankle) expects to be available out of the Orioles' bullpen within the next few days.

Britton sprained his left ankle Saturday while trying to field an Adam Eaton bunt. X-rays turned up negative and he told reporters Monday that he's already feeling much better. He should return at some point this week.
May 2 - 2:44 PM

J.J. Hardy has been diagnosed with a small fracture in his left foot and will be placed on the disabled list.

Hardy fouled a ball off the foot in the fourth inning Sunday and a CT scan taken Monday morning revealed a broken bone. MASN's Roch Kubatko says the Orioles are expecting this to be an absence of 6-8 weeks. Manny Machado moved from third base to shortstop Sunday and Pedro Alvarez took over at the hot corner. Ryan Flaherty and Paul Janish will likely factor into the mix at those positions over the next couple of months. Chris Davis can play a little third base too.
May 2 - 2:18 PM

Hunter Harvey needs surgery for a sports hernia and will be sidelined the next 4-6 weeks.

Harvey visited a specialist in Philadelphia on Monday after experiencing renewed groin discomfort. It's something he's been dealing with since late March. The former top prospect missed the entire 2015 season with a broken leg and elbow troubles, and he was shut down early in 2014. Baltimore's front office is hopeful Harvey can begin pitching in minor league games around July 1. He has impressive pro numbers, but the star is fading.
May 2 - 2:05 PM

Zack Cozart (knee) is out of the Reds' starting lineup on Monday against the Giants.

Cozart left Sunday's series finale against the Pirates after suffering a right knee injury. He walked off the field under his own power, but it's the same knee Cozart had surgery on in 2015 so there's reason for concern. Look for more information from the Reds soon. Ivan DeJesus Jr. is starting at shortstop and batting second Monday versus Giants right-hander Johnny Cueto.
May 2 - 1:42 PM

Devin Mesoraco (shoulder) is out of the Reds' starting lineup again on Monday versus the Giants.

Mesoraco still has some stiffness in his left shoulder, through it's not considered anything serious. Tucker Barnhart will get another start behind the plate.
