According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, Mariners president Chuck Armstrong said that the club is "looking at" free agent outfielder Josh Hamilton.

"[GM Jack Zduriencik] is looking at it," said Armstrong, who cautioned that the Mariners are still formulating their plans for free agency. "We are going to have more money to spend. And we do need offense." There's all sorts of risk involved with Hamilton, but there's no question that he would be a huge improvement for an offense which has been at or near the bottom in runs scored since 2007. Hamilton reportedly seeks a seven-year, $175 million contract, but a front-runner has yet to emerge in the early days of free agency.

Rangers designated RHP Derek Lowe for assignment.

The move clears a spot for Monday's starter, Josh Lindblom. Lowe has struggled in a mop-up role this season, posting an ugly 9.00 ERA in 13 innings. The Rangers are paying him $1.25 million in 2013.

Yan Gomes slugged two home runs -- including a 10th-inning walkoff -- in Monday's 10-8 defeat of the Mariners.

Gomes hit a solo shot in the bottom of the second inning and then played the hero by cranking a three-run blast in the bottom of the 10th with the Indians trailing by two. Gomes finished with four RBI and now has nine RBI in 17 games this season to go along with a cool .951 OPS. He should start seeing a bit more regular playing time.

Stephen Drew (back) has returned to the starting lineup for the Red Sox on Monday.

Drew missed back-to-back games over the weekend due to back issue, but it was never a major concern. The 30-year-old is hitting .238/.336/.410 with three home runs, 18 RBI and a .746 OPS through 31 games this season.

Phillies placed RHP Mike Adams on the 15-day disabled list with a right back strain.

Adams has been battling the injury for close to two weeks and the Phillies finally decided to shut him down for a bit. He's allowed to return before the end of May.
May 20 - 3:57 PM

Red Sox activated RHP Andrew Bailey from the 15-day disabled list.

Bailey missed three weeks with a right biceps injury. He will take back Boston's ninth-inning role and should be activated in fantasy leagues right out of the gate. The righty had a stellar 1.46 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 20/4 K/BB ratio in 12 1/3 innings before going down.
May 20 - 3:51 PM

Reds activated RHP Johnny Cueto from the 15-day disabled list.

Cueto wound up missing a little over one month with a strained right lat and oblique soreness. He will return to the Reds' starting rotation on Monday against the Mets and can be activated immediately in fantasy leagues.
May 20 - 3:46 PM

Zack Cozart (illness) is not in the Reds' lineup Monday.

Cozart also sat out on Saturday afternoon. Cesar Izturis will start at shortstop Monday against the Mets.
May 20 - 3:01 PM

A.J. Pierzynski (oblique) is expected to return to the Rangers' active roster on Tuesday.

Pierzynski played in rehab games on Sunday and Monday and reported feeling fine. The 36-year-old catcher has been out since May 5 with a strained right oblique. He was batting .263/.297/.411 with four home runs and 11 RBI in 26 games before hitting the shelf.

Brett Myers (elbow) will make his second minor league rehab start on Wednesday at Double-A Akron.

Myers threw 33 pitches last week in his first rehab start and will probably try to top 50 pitches on Wednesday. He'll make at least one more start in the minors after that before being considered for activation. The right-hander is attempting to pitch through a UCL tear.
May 20 - 2:24 PM

Colby Lewis (elbow) acknowledged on Monday afternoon that he's unhappy with his fastball velocity.

Lewis was sitting around 85-86 mph in his rehab start Monday at Double-A Frisco and wants to be closer to 89-91 mph by the time he returns to the major leagues. The hope had been that he would be ready to rock during the first week of June, but a more realistic timetable calls for him to be activated near the middle of the month. Lewis is on his way back from major right elbow surgery.
May 20 - 1:19 PM

Rays recalled RHP Jake Odorizzi from Triple-A Durham.

The talented 23-year-old right-hander is making his Rays debut on Monday afternoon against the Blue Jays in place of injured left-hander David Price. Odorizzi had a 3.83 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 47/15 K/BB ratio through 44 2/3 innings this season at the Triple-A level. He is worth a try in mixed fantasy leagues for however long he's up.
