Angels signed OF Trent Oeltjen to a minor league contract.

It's not clear whether he'll be given an invitation to spring training. Oeltjen, 29, batted .294/.356/.485 at Triple-A with the Dodgers this season but has done very little in his time in the majors. He's merely organizational depth.

Jake Arrieta held the Brewers to one run over six innings in a win on Tuesday.

Arrieta allowed five hits and two walks on the evening, striking out four. The biggest of those four came with runners on second and third with two outs in the sixth inning, getting Gerardo Parra swinging to end the threat. It was a nice bounce-back after one of his worst starts of the season against the Reds his last time out. Arrieta moved to 8-5 with a 2.81 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 139/38 K/BB ratio over 134 1/3 innings on the year. He'll take his talents north of the border Monday when the Cubs visit the Blue Jays for an interleague tilt.

R.A. Dickey earned his 11th win, holding the Rays to two runs on two hits and three walks over seven innings on Tuesday.

Dickey starts September off strong, as he hopes to have a third month with a sub-4.00 ERA -- the others occurring in May and July. The right-hander punched out six Rays en route to his win on Tuesday. Now with a 3.94 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP, and a 153/66 K/BB ratio, Dickey will go for win number 12 at Fenway Park against the Red Sox on Sunday.

Jarrod Dyson stole three bases and scored the game-winning run as the Royals edged the Rangers 2-1 on Tuesday.

Dyson entered as a pinch runner for Nori Aoki in the sixth inning and proceeded to steal third base. He later grounded into a fielder's choice before stealing second and third, scoring on a Sal Perez infield single. The steals gave Dyson 33 stolen bases on the season. Owners desperately looking for steals in the season's final month could do worse than Dyson.

Derek Holland tossed seven strong innings in his season debut Tuesday, keeping the Royals to one run in a no-decision.

Holland showed no signs of rust after missing five months following knee surgery. The southpaw gave up six hits but didn't walk a batter, striking out six. It was certainly a promising start for the 27-year-old, especially given how his rehab outings had gone in the weeks leading up to his debut. Holland will look for another good showing Sunday against the Mariners.

J.D. Martinez slugged a go-ahead three-run home run in the ninth inning as the Tigers came back to beat the Indians on Tuesday.

The Tigers entered the inning trailing 2-1, but immediately put two runners on base against Cody Allen. After Victor Martinez flied out, J.D. Martinez pushed a fly ball 418 feet out to center field to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead, which was then protected by closer Joe Nathan. Martinez finished 3-for-5 on the night. He now sits on an impressive .311/.352/.559 slash line with 19 home runs and 63 RBI.

Daniel Nava went 2-for-3 with a walk and a three-run home run as the Red Sox slugged their way to a win against the Yankees on Tuesday.

Nava helped put the Red Sox up 5-0 with his three-run blast off of Shane Greene in the third inning, his third homer of the year. It was his first long ball since April 15. Nava has done well in the on-base department but has otherwise not done much, slashing .263/.340/.345 with 23 RBI.
Sep 2 - 10:51 PM

Martin Prado left Tuesday's game versus the Red Sox with a left hamstring injury.

Prado singled and hit a solo homer in three at-bats before exiting. He's headed to the doctor to undergo an MRI before it's determined how much time he might miss.
Sep 2 - 10:47 PM

Juan Lagares had a perfect night at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a walk, a double, two RBI, three runs scored, and two stolen bases in Tuesday's win over the Marlins.

This is what we refer to as "filling up the box score". Lagares has stolen bases in four out of his last five games, as manager Terry Collins has said he wants his center fielder to show off his speed on the base paths on a more frequent basis. Lagares is slashing .282/.321/.389 with four home runs, 44 RBI, and nine stolen bases.

Kyle Kendrick put together his best start of the season, shutting the Braves out over seven innings to earn his eighth win of the season on Tuesday.

Kendrick has had a rough season, entering the evening with the fifth-worst ERA among all qualified starters. But he got to face the slumping Braves, the victims of Monday's combined no-hitter. Kendrick limited the Braves to a mere three hits and two walks while striking out four. The right-hander lowered his ERA to 4.77 and carries a 1.37 WHIP and 103/48 K/BB ratio. Kendrick will face the Pirates at home on Monday in his next start.
Sep 2 - 10:13 PM

Starlin Castro will undergo an MRI after exiting Tuesday's game versus the Brewers with a left ankle injury.

The good news is that initial tests ruled out a fracture. Castro was injured when he got his foot caught in the dirt while sliding in to score a run in the first inning. The Cubs could have another update on the shortstop later Tuesday.
Sep 2 - 9:06 PM

Justin Upton is considered day-to-day after exiting Tuesday's game with a left triceps contusion.

It's not clear how Upton suffered the injury, but it appears that it's not a major concern. The Braves have a day game Wednesday and are off Thursday, so it seems likely that we won't see Upton again until Friday.
