Enrique Rojas of ESPNdeportes.com reports that the Blue Jays have signed Melky Cabrera to a two-year, $16 million contract.

After a tidal wave Tuesday, the Jays make another big splash Friday. Cabrera, of course, missed the final six weeks of the season after testing positive for a banned substance, but he batted .346/.390/.516 with 11 homers, 60 RBI and 13 steals before that. It looks like a pretty worthy gamble on general manager Alex Anthopoulos' part. The Jays are suddenly looking like real players in the AL East.

Brandon Moss underwent surgery Thursday to repair a torn labrum and also fix an impingement in his right hip.

Moss was bothered by the hip ailment for much of the second half and it showed at the plate, as he hit just .162 with a .575 OPS in 162 plate appearances after August 1. He'll be on crutches for four weeks and is expected to be able to run in 12 weeks. Moss might be eased into things at the beginning of spring training but should be fine by Opening Day.

Phillies re-signed OF Grady Sizemore to a one-year, $2 million contract.

The deal includes performance bonuses. Sizemore, 32, batted .253/.313/.389 with three home runs and 12 RBI over 176 plate appearances after joining the Phillies around midseason and figures to serve as a part-time player in 2015.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Blue Jays have begun contract talks with Melky Cabrera.

Heyman hears Toronto is "willing to offer at least a three-year deal" to the impending free agent outfielder, who batted .301/.351/.458 with 16 home runs and 73 RBI over 139 games this season. If an agreement isn't reached before the deadline for free agent filing, the Jays will make Cabrera a one-year, $15.3 million qualifying offer so they can get draft pick compensation if he signs elsewhere. Melky turned 30 years old in August.

According to Andy Martino of the New York Daily News, the Mets have "concrete" interest in impending free agent outfielder Michael Cuddyer.

Martino hears from "people familiar with the Mets' thinking" that the team would like to sign Cuddyer to a two-year deal this winter to provide power to their lineup and veteran presence to their clubhouse. The 35-year-old batted .332/.376/.579 in an injury-shortened 2014 for the Rockies. He posted a .919 OPS, 20 home runs, and 84 RBI across 130 games with Colorado in 2013.

Brewers named Darnell Coles as hitting coach.

The club's previous hitting coach, Jerry Narron, was let go at the end of the regular season. Coles, a former major league outfielder who played for eight different teams, served as the Tigers' assistant hitting coach in 2013. He'll work under Brewers manager Ron Roenicke, who was retained despite the team's late-season collapse.

Tim Lincecum will undergo an MRI Thursday on his back.

Lincecum tweaked something along the left side of his back and hip while pitching in mop-up duty in Game 2 of the World Series on Wednesday night in Kansas City. The Giants want to find out if it's worth keeping him active for the remainder of the best-of-seven Fall Classic. George Kontos could be an option to replace him on the Giants' roster.

The Rockies have fired pitching coach Jim Wright.

Assistant pitching coach Bo McLaughlin has also been let go. Colorado posted a league-worst 4.84 staff ERA in 2014, and these two will serve as the scapegoats. Wright was the Rockies' pitching coach for three years. He had spent 18 years in the organization.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that John Hart will be named the Braves' president of baseball operations.

Hart had been serving as the Braves' interim general manager since the September 22 firing of Frank Wren and will now take a permanent role in Atlanta's front office. Hart is the former general manager of the Indians and Rangers. He also served as an in-studio analyst for a couple of years on MLB Network. The Braves still need to name a new GM, and that person will work directly under Hart.

According to Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun, the Blue Jays have received calls about Adam Lind.

"I hear the Blue Jays are getting a lot of interest on Lind and not just from American League teams," an unnamed executive told the Sun. "I’ve heard three or four clubs." Lind struggles mightily against left-handed pitching, but he mashes righties and is only due $7.5 million in 2015 and $8 million in 2016 (via a pair of club options). That relatively low price tag makes him an attractive trade target for teams that want to upgrade offensively but won't be able to compete for the bigger bats on the open market this winter.

Billy Butler went 2-for-3 with two RBI, driving in the game-winning run as the Royals bested the Giants 7-2 in Game 2 of the World Series on Wednesday.

Butler delivered two of the game's biggest hits, swatting an RBI single in the first inning to get the Royals on the board and roping a single over Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford in the sixth that gave the Royals a 3-2 lead. They wouldn't look back, putting up four more runs in the inning en route to the five-run win. Once in danger of losing his starting job, Country Breakfast has come up big time and again this postseason. Going to a National League park for three games Butler may have trouble finding at-bats, but he'll likely be the first man off the bench for manager Ned Yost in pinch-hitting spots.

Dan Haren underwent arthroscopic surgery Wednesday afternoon on his left shoulder.

It was a minor procedure on his non-throwing arm, and Haren should be fully recovered by the beginning of spring training next February. His $10 million option for 2015 vested near the end of the September, so the soft-tossing right-hander will presumably have a spot in the Los Angeles rotation next year. Haren registered a 2.09 ERA over his final seven starts in 2014.
