Andy Martino of the New York Daily News was told by a high-ranking executive who spoke with Mets that they would want a "monster package" if they decided to trade R.A. Dickey.

"(They) would want a monster package for (R.A.) Dickey, and if they don’t get it, probably would not trade him. They aren’t approaching teams on this, but they’re letting teams come to them." The executive thinks the Mets would ask for "a few high-end prospects or major leaguers, likely outfielders or catching help." The Mets' first choice, of course, is to sign Dickey to an extension, but those talks appear to be going rather slowly. If the two sides do come together, it's not expected to happen prior to the winter meetings.

Dustin Pedroia (hamstring) is in the Red Sox starting lineup on Thursday against the Rockies.

Just as he pledged late Wednesday night, after making an early exit with cramping in his right hamstring. Pedroia is batting second for the Red Sox on Thursday night against Colorado right-hander Jon Gray. Jackie Bradley Jr. will take a spin at leadoff with Mookie Betts getting a breather.
May 26 - 3:08 PM

Mookie Betts will take a night off Thursday.

It's his first absence in 88 games dating back to last season. Chris Young will start in right field and Blake Swihart is in left field Thursday versus the Rockies. Jackie Bradley is hitting leadoff against Jon Gray.
May 26 - 3:06 PM

Daniel Murphy is getting the night off Thursday.

Stephen Drew will start at second base in the Nationals' series opener against the visiting Cardinals. Murphy went 2-for-4 in Wednesday's loss to the Mets and is batting .394/.426/.617 in 46 games this year.
May 26 - 2:59 PM

Jose Bautista (suspension) is in the Blue Jays' starting lineup Thursday versus the Yankees.

Bautista had his one-game suspension appeal hearing Thursday morning in New York City, but a ruling probably won't come for another couple days. He is batting leadoff Thursday afternoon against CC Sabathia.
May 26 - 2:19 PM

Mark Teixeira received a cortisone injection for his sore neck on Thursday.

He's expected to miss the next three games, including Thursday afternoon's series finale against the Blue Jays. Teixeira began experiencing renewed discomfort in his neck on Wednesday, but an MRI ruled out anything serious. He should back in action Sunday if the cortisone has the intended effect.
May 26 - 2:04 PM

Troy Tulowitzki (quad) is out of the Blue Jays' starting lineup again on Thursday.

Tulo is feeling better, per manager John Gibbons, but the parties involved felt it wise to get the veteran shortstop one more day of rest. Darwin Barney is starting at short Thursday afternoon against the Yankees.
May 26 - 1:55 PM

Yankees activated DH Alex Rodriguez from the 15-day disabled list.

A-Rod is at DH and batting fifth Thursday against the Blue Jays after missing the last three weeks with a strained hamstring. He went 3-for-6 with a home run and three RBI on his two-game rehab assignment with Double-A Trenton, but the 40-year-old returns Thursday to a rough .194/.275/.444 batting line. He offers a bit of power but not much more in what is technically his age-41 season.
May 26 - 1:26 PM

Cardinals placed 3B Matt Carpenter on the paternity leave list.

Carpenter's wife went into labor with the couple's first child ahead of Wednesday afternoon's series finale against the Cubs. He could miss the Cardinals' entire four-game series in Washington, D.C. Greg Garcia was called up Thursday in a corresponding roster move to provide infield depth.
May 26 - 12:22 PM

Logan Forsythe (shoulder) took grounders Wednesday.

It's a nice first step for the rehabbing second baseman, who's been on the disabled list since May 14 with a fracture in his left shoulder blade. Forsythe told Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times that he's aiming to return during the Rays' next homestand (June 10-19). He was mashing at a .308/.398/.523 clip with four home runs and 12 RBI in 29 games before the injury.
May 26 - 12:11 PM

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said Shelby Miller is dealing with discomfort in a finger on his right hand.

Miller jammed the finger against the pitching mound in San Diego during a start at Petco Park back in April. He's still scheduled to take his next turn Sunday at home against the Padres, but a disabled list stint may be coming (whether he actually needs it or not) if things go poorly in that outing. Miller has a hideous 7.09 ERA, 1.86 WHIP, and 30/29 K/BB ratio through his first 45 2/3 innings with Arizona.
May 26 - 11:16 AM

Christian Yelich (back) is out again Thursday.

This will be the fifth game in a row that Yelich has missed with what the Marlins originally labeled back spasms. It's probably something a little more serious than that. Derek Dietrich is starting in left field in a very patchwork lineup for the Fish on Thursday afternoon against the Rays.
