Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Angels have "intensified" their pursuit of Japanese reliever Kyuji Fujikawa.

Fujikawa met with general manager Jerry Dipoto and manager Mike Scioscia and also took a tour of Angel Stadium Saturday. The 32-year-old has no shortage of suitors, as he's also visited with the Cubs and Diamondbacks and is scheduled to visit with the Dodgers. The Rangers and Red Sox have also shown interest. In Anaheim, Fujikawa would likely set up for Ernesto Frieri.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Dodgers are interested in Rays right-hander Erasmo Ramirez.

Jun 29 - 3:39 PM

Yu Darvish (shoulder) threw three innings in a simulated game Wednesday.

Darvish, who is working his way back from right shoulder discomfort, threw to teammates Jurickson Profar and Ryan Rua. Rangers pitching coach Doug Brocail was encouraged by what he saw, but they'd wait to see how he feels Thursday before deciding on the next step. It's possible he could be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment as early as next Monday or Tuesday.
Jun 29 - 3:33 PM

Carlos Beltran (hamstring) is absent from Wednesday's lineup versus the Rangers.

It's no surprise after Beltran was removed from Tuesday's game with a tight right hamstring. The Yankees are calling him day-to-day after an MRI came back clean, so a weekend return is possible if he shows enough progress. Aaron Hicks is starting in right field Wednesday while Alex Rodriguez serves as the DH.
Jun 29 - 3:26 PM

Hanley Ramirez is considered day-to-day with an injury to his right side.

Ramirez tweaked something on a swing in the sixth inning on Wednesday against the Rays and was eventually pulled from the game. Hopefully it's not an oblique injury, but at least the Red Sox have an off day on Thursday. We should know more on Friday.
Jun 29 - 3:20 PM

Matt Moore fired seven scoreless innings in a 4-0 win over the Red Sox on Wednesday.

It was an impressive start against a good lineup. Moore allowed just three hits, all of them singles in the sixth inning. But he managed to wiggle out of the jam and keep the Red Sox off the board. The southpaw walked a pair and struck out six in the victory and now sits at 4-5 with a 4.67 ERA on the year. He’ll try to keep the momentum going in a start against the Angels next week.
Jun 29 - 3:13 PM

Phillies prospect right-hander Mark Appel had surgery Wednesday to remove a bone spur from his right elbow.

Appel is done for the year, but he's expected to be ready for spring training next year. The 2013 No. 1 overall pick had a 4.46 ERA and 34/20 K/BB ratio in 38 1/3 innings with Triple-A Lehigh Valley before hitting the disabled list with a right shoulder strain in late May. His stock continues to fade.
Jun 29 - 2:11 PM

Royals placed OF Lorenzo Cain on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.

Yet another injury for the defending World Series champions. Cain hurt his hamstring while trying to leg out an infield single on Wednesday. The severity of the strain isn't yet clear. Brett Eibner will take his place on the active roster.
Jun 29 - 2:02 PM

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Cuban infielder Yulieski Gurriel worked out for the Astros.

Rosenthal notes that Gurriel posted a picture on Instagram of him in an Astros hat, though this doesn't mean that a deal is imminent. The 32-year-old has also reportedly had workouts with the Dodgers and Mets in recent days. He'd likely require some time in the minors to shake the rust, but he could be a factor in the majors in the second half.
Jun 29 - 1:44 PM

Yunel Escobar (knee) remains out of the Angels' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Tuesday that Escobar will remain sidelined until at least Friday. If he's not ready by then, he'll likely be facing a backdated trip to the disabled list. Escobar hasn't played since last Thursday due to a bone bruise in his knee. Jefry Marte will continue to fill in at third base.
Jun 29 - 1:19 PM

DJ LeMahieu (knee) is out of the Rockies' lineup again Wednesday.

LeMahieu appeared as a defensive replacement Tuesday and hoped to make it back to the starting lineup Wednesday, but the Rockies apparently don't want to rush things. Daniel Descalso will continue to fill in at second base.
Jun 29 - 1:13 PM

Trevor Story is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Blue Jays.

Story went 0-for-4 in his return to the lineup Tuesday. With the quick turnaround, the Rockies are likely just being cautious about his injured finger. Cristhian Adames is playing shortstop and batting second.
