According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, David Wright is a "50-50 proposition at best" to sign a long-term extension with the Mets this offseason.

Puma's source said Wright is less than thrilled with the length of contract and amount of guaranteed money the Mets have offered. Wright, who turns 30 in December, is reportedly seeking a deal of at least seven years and $125 million. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said last week that he hopes to get some clarity on the matter by the Winter Meetings while Wright will not negotiate with the club after spring training.

Carlos Gomez (shoulder) expects to be activated from the disabled list on Saturday, the first day he's eligible.

Gomez had minor surgery to remove a cyst from his right shoulder. He's slated to throw, shag flys and possibly swing a bat on Tuesday. It's unclear whether he might need a short rehab assignment before returning, but either way it sounds like fantasy owners will get him back later this week.

Andrew Miller departed an appearance Monday against the Red Sox with an apparent injury.

Miller threw seven pitches -- with only two of them going for strikes -- before walking off the mound and into the clubhouse. His velocity ranged from 88-92 mph. It was his second appearance since returning from tendinitis in his right knee, but it's unclear if that's what he's dealing with again. The Indians should have an update soon.

Steven Matz will undergo surgery this week to repair irritation of the ulnar nerve in his left elbow.

Matz was given an injection in his elbow Monday, but rather than wait to see if that would help him improve enough to return later this season, the Mets have decided it would be best for him to go under the knife now. The left-hander has reportedly been pitching through pain all season, and it's been reflected in his 6.07 ERA over 13 starts. Teammate Jacob deGrom had the same operation last September and returned for the start of spring training. It's possible Matz could be brought along a little more slowly given his past elbow issues, but he should have a good shot to be ready on Opening Day if all goes smoothly with his rehab.
Aug 21 - 9:43 PM

Carlos Rodon held the Twins to two earned runs while striking out nine batters over 6 1/3 innings Monday in the first half of a split doubleheader.

Another excellent outing from the 24-year-old left-hander, who boasts a 2.25 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 37/9 K/BB ratio in 36 innings over his last five starts. And those numbers have come against some very good offenses, including the Indians, Red Sox, Astros, and Dodgers. Rodon has lowered his season ERA to 3.88 and he boasts 68 strikeouts in 60 1/3 total frames. The former No. 3 overall pick should be owned and active in most mixed fantasy leagues as he rolls into his next start at home against the Tigers.
Aug 21 - 8:07 PM

Cameron Maybin (knee) is back in the Angels' lineup Monday.

It's his first start since last Tuesday, as he's been battling nagging soreness in his right knee. Maybin missed nearly three weeks of action previously due to an injury to the same knee, and he's hit only .214/.267/.250 since returning so it seems he may never have really recovered. He's feeling well enough to give it a go Monday, though.
Aug 21 - 8:04 PM

Mike Puma of the New York Post hears that Jeurys Familia (shoulder) could be activated from the disabled list as soon as this weekend.

Familia has tossed two scoreless innings on his rehab assignment so far and will pitch on back-to-back days Tuesday and Wednesday. That's often the last step before a reliever is activated, so Familia will get a day of rest Thursday before likely being activated Friday if all goes well. A.J. Ramos might keep the closer job initially if the Mets want to ease Familia back into things but the latter should get his job back in short order.
Aug 21 - 7:27 PM

Joey Gallo is experiencing concussion symptoms and did not travel with the Rangers to Anaheim.

Gallo also suffered a nasal fracture as a result of a collision with teammate Matt Bush on Sunday. The Rangers are holding off placing Gallo on the concussion disabled list for now in hopes that he'll make a quick recovery. As is the case with all concussions, though, that's anything but a guarantee. Gallo is a risky fantasy play this week. Ryan Rua has been recalled and is getting a start in left field Monday.
Aug 21 - 6:12 PM

Yasmany Tomas will undergo season-ending core muscle surgery on Tuesday.

Tomas first went on the disabled list back in early June and encountered multiple setbacks along the way. It amounts to a lost season for the 26-year-old, as he hit only .241/.294/.464 with eight homers while being limited to 47 games. The Diamondbacks tried to trade Tomas last winter and it wouldn't be a surprise if they try again this winter, although the market for him might not be there.
Aug 21 - 5:50 PM

Cody Bellinger (ankle) won't return to the Dodgers' lineup until at least Wednesday.

Bellinger's right ankle is still swollen after he sprained it Saturday, and he'll miss at least three games. The rookie will be re-evaluated Wednesday to see if he's ready to go then or needs more time. The Dodgers can obviously afford to proceed cautiously here given their 20-game lead in the National League West.
Aug 21 - 5:04 PM

Felix Hernandez (shoulder) will play catch Tuesday.

Hernandez to this point has been limited to strengthening exercises over the last three weeks after being diagnosed with more bursitis in his right shoulder, but he's ready to start throwing again now. The veteran right-hander will surely need at least one rehab start before returning, so he's likely still at least a couple weeks away.
Aug 21 - 4:25 PM

James Paxton (pectoral) will play catch Wednesday.

He had been hoping to play catch this past weekend, but it sounds like he's a tad behind schedule. Paxton -- who strained his left pectoral in a start 11 days ago -- will need to progress from playing catch to bullpen sessions to facing hitters and then maybe go out on a short rehab assignment before rejoining the Mariners' rotation. In other words, it will be a little while, but Wednesday is a nice step.
