Yankees purchased the contract of LHP Manny Banuelos from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

A no-brainer, even though Banuelos is slated to miss the entire 2013 season following Tommy John surgery. While the Yankees will essentially lose a year of pre-arb team control due to the injury, the 21-year-old southpaw still has a bright future.

Aroldis Chapman was removed from Tuesday's appearance for precautionary reasons due to a right hamstring injury.

Chapman was pulled from the game after a long discussion with Reds coaches and trainers. The closer wanted to continue and insists that his hamstring is fine, so it sounds like this isn't anything to worry about. Expect Chapman to be available to pitch in a day or two.

Roberto Osuna has made the Blue Jays' Opening Day bullpen.

Osuna will become the youngest pitcher in Jays history when he debuts. The 20-year-old right-hander has allowed just one run and struck out nine batters in 10 innings this spring in the Grapefruit League. He will pitch in middle relief at first but could eventually move into more of a setup role.

Ken Giles was lifted from Tuesday's Grapefruit League game after experiencing pain in his back.

The discomfort was in the mid-to-lower part of the 24-year-old right-hander's back. Giles had a terrific rookie season in 2014 and had been pitching well this spring. He expects to be fine for Opening Day.

John Axford left Rockies camp Tuesday after his two-year-old son was bit by a rattlesnake.

Jameson Axford got bit twice on the right foot and was taken to a Phoenix hospital, where he was given anti-venom. He is now in stable condition, but his toes may have to be amputated. Awful stuff.

Luke Gregerson has been named the Astros' closer.

It was a predictable decision. Gregerson posted a 2.12 ERA and 59/15 K/BB ratio in 72 1/3 innings last season for the A's and should carry considerable fantasy value this year on a quickly-improving Astros team.

Anthony Rendon will seek a third opinion from Dr. Steven Singleton regarding his knee injury.

It should be noted that Rendon, and not the team, has chosen to look for the third opinion. He saw Dr. James Andrews on Monday and a left MCL sprain was the confirmed diagnosis. Rendon has been dealing with this sprain since March 9 and is not expected to be ready for Opening Day. Yunel Escobar is tentatively slated to take his place at the hot corner, though Escobar has not played third since 2007.
Mar 31 - 3:30 PM

Coco Crisp (elbow) said that he "doesn't know" if he'll be ready for Opening Day.

Crisp played in a minor league camp game on Tuesday, going 0-3 with a walk. The A's have been going slow with Crisp this spring. That he is still uncertain of his status for the opener could be an indication that a DL trip is an increasing possibility. Crisp has been moved to left field from center, in the hopes of preserving the veteran's health.

Brewers manager Ron Roenick said that Ryan Braun's thumb is no longer a concern.

Braun underwent thumb surgery in October and has been on the mend ever since. He appears to be fully recovered. Braun will be ready for Opening Day. As long as he's healthy, he remains one of the best hitters in the game. The thumb issue is one to watch during the season, but for now, he should be good to go.

Rangers manager Jeff Banister said that Ryan Rua had been awarded the starting left field job out of spring training.

Rua's spring numbers back it up, as he hit .302/.351/.509 with a homer, two triples and nine RBI during spring games prior to the final decision. With the starting job locked up, Rua is an interesting player for deeper AL-only drafts. He slashed .306/.378/.488 in the minors last season and also contributed at the major league level.

Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said that Domonic Brown (achilles) would begin the season on the DL.

Brown was diagnosed with tendinitis of the left Achilles a little over a week ago and has been making slow progress toward recovery. This leaves the team in a state of flux, as their current outfield options to replace Brown are the likes of Jeff Francoeur and Darin Ruf. Brown's timetable for return has still not been set.
Mar 31 - 12:51 PM

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that there was no timetable for the return of Didi Gregorius (wrist).

The Yankees need to see the swelling in Gregorius' left wrist subside before they're able to give an estimate for his return. He suffered the injury diving for a ball on Saturday. Gregorius previously indicated that he thought he'd be ready to play on Opening Day.
