According to Sean McAdam of, the Red Sox have narrowed their focus to Cody Ross and Jonny Gomes among free agent outfielders.

The Red Sox have had discussions with Gomes about a two-year deal, but it's not clear what they are discussing with Ross. However, McAdam hears that it's conceivable the club could reach an agreement with one or the other within the week. Gomes batted .262/.377/.491 with 18 homers and an .868 OPS with the A's this season while Ross batted .267/.326/.481 with 22 homers and an .807 OPS with the BoSox. Both are known for knocking around left-handed pitching.

Wilmer Flores knocked in the tying and game-winning runs as the Mets walked off winners in 10 innings versus the Phillies on Tuesday.

Flores, who went 1-for-4 on the night, tied the game at 4-4 with an eighth-inning sacrifice fly against Ken Giles. In the 10th inning, he came to the plate with runners on the corners and two out. He lifted an Elvis Arajuo offering into left field to bring in the winning run. Flores has hit for decent power but otherwise has been lackluster, batting .252/.284/.429 with seven home runs and 21 RBI.

Matt Adams has been diagnosed with a strained right quad.

Adams pulled his quad while rounding first base on a double in the fifth inning of Tuesday's game. He was awfully gimpy while walking off, so a trip to the disabled list looks likely. Mark Reynolds would be in line to take over at first base.

Marlon Byrd scored the game-winning run and had both of the Reds' runs in their 2-1, walk-off victory over the Rockies on Tuesday.

Byrd singled and scored in the second inning before leading off the bottom of the ninth with a walk. He was sacrificed into scoring position and Skip Schumaker's RBI double plated Byrd as the winning run. Byrd's rate stats leave something to be desired, but he's still got 10 homers, 25 RBI and 20 runs scored on the year.

Addison Russell delivered a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning to send the Cubs to a win against the Nationals on Tuesday.

Russell finished 3-for-4 on the night. The Cubs had a runner on second base and two outs in the bottom of the ninth when Russell ripped a double to right-center off of reliever Matt Grace. Russell now has 11 doubles on the season and is batting .252/.301/.426 with three home runs and 13 RBI.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that trade a between the Dodgers and Braves involving Juan Uribe and Alberto Callaspo is "done," pending approval by the commissioner’s office.

It was reported earlier Tuesday that Callaspo rejected the trade, but now Rosenthal is saying he waived his right to reject any deal prior to June 15. Rosenthal says it would be a six-player trade, and he thinks Trevor Cahill and/or Eric Stults could be one of the players going to the Dodgers.

Mark Teixeira went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a two-run double in Tuesday's win over the Royals.

Teixeira got the party started early, driving a two-run home run in the first inning off of Jason Vargas. He tacked on a two-run double in the fifth and later scored as the Yankees went up 5-0. Teixeira has shown no signs of slowing down as May nears its end. He's batting .243/.365/.588 with 14 home runs and 35 RBI.

Justin Verlander (triceps) is expected to begin a rehab assignment on Sunday.

Verlander looked "very good" in a 70-pitch simulated game on Tuesday, according to Tigers manager Brad Ausmus. If he feels good Wednesday, he'll be officially cleared for a rehab assignment. Verlander unsuccessfully lobbied for more work Tuesday so that he could avoid a minor league start and go right back into the rotation, so it sounds like Sunday's rehab start would likely be his only one. That would likely put him in line to rejoin the Tigers' rotation on June 5 in Chicago. The veteran right-hander has been sidelined all season with a strained right triceps.

Avisail Garcia (knee) won't return Wednesday.

Garcia left Monday's game in Toronto after experiencing renewed discomfort in his right knee and he is not in the lineup Tuesday. The White Sox have decided to keep him off the heavily-criticized new turf at Rogers Centre. J.B. Shuck is filling in for Chicago.

Jean Segura (finger) will be activated Friday.

A followup X-ray taken Monday on Segura's fractured right pinkie showed significant healing, so the Brewers are going to rush him back without a rehab assignment. Segura only wound up missing 15 days. The 25-year-old shortstop was batting .262/.306/.373 with two home runs and six stolen bases in 33 games before the injury.

Athletics activated LHP Sean Doolittle from the 15-day disabled list.

Doolittle missed the first eight weeks of the 2015 regular season with a slight tear in his left rotator cuff. He struggled a bit on his minor league rehab assignment, but the southpaw should reclaim ninth-inning duties after two or three low-leverage appearances. Doolittle needs to be owned in all standard fantasy formats.
May 26 - 5:37 PM

Anthony Rendon (knee, oblique) played three innings Tuesday in a simulated game.

Rendon even stole third base at one point in the game, which manager Matt Williams took as a sign that he's finally "uninhibited" by his oblique and knee injuries. Rendon should be ready to make his 2015 debut late next week if he's able to avoid further setbacks. The 24-year-old hit .287/.357/.473 with 21 home runs, 17 stolen bases, and 111 runs scored in 153 games last season for Washington.
