B.J. Upton's newly-inked contract with the Braves will be worth between $70 and $75 million over the next five years, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

Upton was pushing for a guaranteed sixth year but the Braves drew the line at five. It's still a nice score for a guy who finished the 2012 season with a measly .298 on-base percentage. The 28-year-old will start in center field for the Braves next season. He remains a highly valuable fantasy commodity because of his power and speed.

Carlos Beltran (elbow) will make his Grapefruit League debut on Friday.

The Yankees are understandably easing Beltran into things this spring, as he turns 38 in April and is coming back from surgery to remove loose pieces and a bone spur from his right elbow. He's hoping for better results in his second season in the Bronx.

Making his exhibition debut, Alex Rodriguez singled and walked in his three plate appearances Wednesday versus the Phillies.

Rodriguez swung through Kevin Slowey's first two fastballs in the first before getting a third at 89-mph and sending a little liner into left field. He grounded out on the first pitch of his second at-bat and then walked on a full count before getting pulled for a pinch-runner in the sixth inning. Rodriguez's bat didn't exactly look fast in the game, but he came through day one just fine.
Mar 4 - 3:42 PM

Josh Harrison exited Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays with left ankle discomfort.

Harrison led off the game with a single, but was later doubled off second base and then departed. No word yet on the severity of the injury. The Pirates should provide an update on his status soon.
Mar 4 - 2:35 PM

Wilmer Flores left Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Braves after he was hit in the wrist area by a pitch.

The severity of the injury isn't yet known, but Mets manager Terry Collins clearly didn't want to take any chances. The Mets should pass along an update soon. Ruben Tejada and Matt Reynolds are the backup options at shortstop if Flores needs to miss significant time.
Mar 4 - 2:28 PM

Masahiro Tanaka (elbow) is likely to make his Grapefruit League debut on March 12 against the Braves.

The Yankees have yet to make an official announcement. Tanaka made it through another bullpen session Wednesday morning -- throwing about 30 pitches in all -- and hasn't reported any issues with his elbow. The Yankees expect him to begin the season in the rotation, but he remains a very risky investment in fantasy leagues.
Mar 4 - 12:37 PM

Rusney Castillo will miss at least one week with a left oblique strain.

Castillo felt some pain in his side during Tuesday's game and was examined by team doctors Wednesday morning. He appeared relieved at the diagnosis, but he'll still have to miss some time. Mookie Betts and Jackie Bradley, Jr. will get most of the playing time in center field for now.
Mar 4 - 12:07 PM

The Athletics have decided to move Coco Crisp to left field.

The move is designed at keeping Crisp healthy. The 35-year-old has appeared in 232 games in left field during his career, most recently in 2012. The A's plan to platoon Sam Fuld and Craig Gentry in center field.
Mar 4 - 11:31 AM

Derek Holland (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Thursday.

Holland was scratched from Thursday's intrasquad game due to discomfort in his left shoulder, but the Rangers were mostly just being cautious. Assuming that all goes well Thursday, he could pitch in a game this weekend.
Mar 4 - 11:14 AM

Jayson Werth (shoulder) hit off a tee Wednesday.

It wasn't much -- he only took 10 swings -- but it was a step in the right direction for Werth, who underwent surgery in early January to repair the AC joint in his right shoulder. The veteran outfield has some hurdles to cross, but he remains hopeful of being ready for the season.
Mar 4 - 10:57 AM

Matt Wieters (elbow) will serve as the DH in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers.

Wieters, who is making his way back from Tommy John surgery, is expected to remain in the DH spot until around March 17. The hope is he'll make enough progress with his catching and throwing drills to get back behind the plate by then. As of now, the Orioles expect him to be ready for Opening Day.
Mar 4 - 10:14 AM

Nick Castellanos (hand) is in Wednesday's lineup against the Orioles.

Castellanos left Tuesday's Grapefruit League game after suffering a left hand contusion on a hit-by-pitch, but X-rays came back negative. It sounds like the Tigers aren't too worried about it. Castellanos, who turns 23 on Wednesday, hit .259 with 11 home runs and a .700 OPS across 148 games as a rookie last year and should be poised to take another step forward in 2015.
