Grilli drawing some interest as a closer

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com hears that Jason Grilli has drawn the interest of some teams as a closer.

The Pirates would love to have him back in a setup role ahead of Joel Hanrahan, but Grilli would figure to jump at the chance to close for someone. It's not clear at this point which teams are considering him for the ninth inning. Grilli is in demand after posting a 2.91 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 90 strikeouts over 58 2/3 innings this past season.

Tepesch scratched Wednesday due to blister

Nick Tepesch has been scratched from his Wednesday start due to a blister on his right middle finger.

Ross Wolf will take the mound in his place. Tepesch should be fine by his next turn in the Rangers' rotation.

Cubs activate Matt Garza from disabled list

Cubs activated RHP Matt Garza from the disabled list.

Garza will make his first start in 10 months for the Cubs on Tuesday night against the Pirates. He looked fairly sharp on his minor league rehab assignment and can be activated immediately in most fantasy leagues. Carlos Villanueva has been pushed into a bullpen role.

Salvador Perez day-to-day due to bruised hip

Salvador Perez has been diagnosed with a deep right hip bruise and is considered day-to-day.

Perez suffered the injury Monday when he ran into a railing near the Astros' dugout while trying to track down a foul ball. He is not in the Royals' starting lineup on Tuesday night but should be fine in a few days.

Orioles activate Miguel Gonzalez from the DL

Orioles activated RHP Miguel Gonzalez from the 15-day disabled list.

Gonzalez will return to the Orioles' starting rotation on Tuesday against the Yankees after missing the past two-plus weeks with a blister on his right thumb. He's not a fantasy option outside deep AL-only leagues.

Jose Molina (hamstring) is not in the Rays' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Blue Jays.

Molina hasn't played since Saturday because of a tight left hamstring. It's not thought to be a serious injury.

Ryan Howard (knee) back in lineup Tuesday

Ryan Howard (knee) is back in the Phillies' starting lineup on Tuesday night.

Howard sat out Sunday and Monday due to a sore left knee, but a cortisone shot has apparently done the job. Still, the situation warrants monitoring.

Andrew McCutchen (knee) is back in Tuesday's lineup against the Cubs.

McCutchen was scratched from Sunday's lineup due to right knee soreness, but it was never a major concern. He should be fine moving forward.

Giants place RHP Ryan Vogelsong (hand) on DL

Giants placed RHP Ryan Vogelsong on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right hand.

Vogelsong was hit by a pitch while swinging the bat in the fifth inning Tuesday and suffered fractures above and below the top knuckle in his pinkie. He's expected to undergo surgery Tuesday and will likely miss around six weeks. Chad Gaudin is the most likely replacement for the rotation, though the Giants could call up Michael Kickham from Triple-A.

Twins calling up RHP Deduno to start Friday

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Tuesday that Samuel Deduno will be called up from Triple-A Rochester to start Friday's game against the Tigers.

In other words, Kyle Gibson's major league debut will have to wait. Deduno, who had a breakthrough performance during the World Baseball Classic, has a 2.70 ERA and 17/10 K/BB ratio in 16 2/3 innings over three starts with Triple-A Rochester since returning from a groin injury. He'll have a pretty tough first matchup, so fantasy owners should steer clear for now.

Logan Morrison (knee) begins rehab assignment

Logan Morrison (knee) went 2-for-5 with a pair of singles Monday in his first rehab game with High-A Jupiter.

Morrison, who is coming back from knee surgery, served as the designated hitter. The 25-year-old is permitted to spend 20 days on his rehab assignment and will likely need most of it to shake the rust and get comfortable. However, assuming all goes well, he should join the Marlins' lineup in early June.

Josh Johnson (triceps) Ks five in rehab start

Josh Johnson (triceps) allowed one run over three innings Monday in his first minor league rehab start with High-A Dunedin.

It was Johnson's first game action since April 21. He gave up three hits while striking out five and walking none. The Blue Jays want him to make at least one more rehab start, but he's on track to return in the early part of June.
