Yankees re-signed RHP Mariano Rivera to a one-year, $10 million contract.

He'll have a chance to earn more through incentives. It was reported Thursday that the Yanks were on the verge of wrapping the deal with Rivera up, and now it's official. The future Hall of Famer takes a paycut from his $15 million salary from 2012, though perhaps the incentives would push the earnings up to around that mark. The 42-year-old is coming off surgery to repair a torn right ACL but is expected to be ready for spring training.

J.P. Crawford has been diagnosed with a fractured left hand and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

Crawford suffered the injury when he was hit on the hand by a pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning Tuesday night against the Cardinals. This probably means increased playing time for Maikel Franco, who has been in and out of the Phillies' lineup over the last couple of weeks. Crawford has struggled at the plate this season, but the 23-year-old is a big part of the future in Philadelphia.

Matt Carpenter drilled a go-ahead home run in the ninth inning of Tuesday's win over the Phillies.

Carpenter was hitless in his first three plate appearances, but he then tied the game up with a two-out, two-run double in the seventh inning before taking rookie flamethrower Seranthony Dominguez deep on an 0-2 count with two outs in the ninth to break a tie. He's homered four times over his last five games and now has 12 longballs on the season.

Odubel Herrera homered for the third day in a row in the Phillies' loss to the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Herrera mysteriously tried to bunt for a hit in the first inning with two on and nobody out. He had a better plan of attack in his second plate appearance when he took Luke Weaver over the right-field wall. Herrera had been in a horrible slump but has now gone deep four times over his last five contests and has 10 hits over his last six games.

Trea Turner had a monster night at the plate Tuesday, going 4-for-4 with a solo home run in the Nationals' win over the Orioles.

Turner's solo shot was the only hit the Nats had through the first four innings. The shortstop led off the fifth with a single and Washington's offense got to work after that, ultimately totaling 14 hits and nine runs. Turner's home run was his eighth on the season and first in 12 tilts.

Mike Clevinger fanned 10 while limiting the White Sox to one run in 7 2/3 innings in a victory Tuesday.

Half of Clevinger's six wins have come against the White Sox; he's allowed three earned runs and fanned 28 over 22 1/3 innings in his three starts against the team. His control still rates as uneven, but he's been so much better at avoiding walks than he was last year, making it quite possible that he'll maintain the strong results.

Domingo German limited the Mariners to two runs – one earned – across seven innings Tuesday in the Yankees’ 7-2 win.

He gave up a solo home run to Nelson Cruz, but it was one of just two base knocks he permitted. German had his swing-and-miss stuff again in this one, whiffing nine over his seven frames while not issuing a walk. He boasts a 28/2 K/BB ratio over 19 innings across his last three starts, rebounding nicely from a rough four-start stretch. German will try to keep the momentum going Sunday in Tampa.

Aaron Hicks went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's victory over the Mariners.

It was one of four longballs the Yankees had on the night, as Giancarlo Stanton, Miguel Andujar and Gleyber Torres also went deep. Hicks -- who also added a pair of singles -- has now homered in three straight games and four of his last six contests, pushing his season total up to an even 10. He has seven hits over those three games.

Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Rougned Odor was "out late" with teammate Yohander Mendez on Monday night in Kansas City.

That might help explain why Odor was scratched from the Rangers' starting lineup on Tuesday night, as Yohander Mendez got demoted to Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday afternoon for what was called a "violation of team rules." Stevenson writes that "the night on the town got out of hand for Mendez," though there are no other details available at this time. Jurickson Profar is starting at second base Tuesday over Odor, who holds a disappointing .217/.292/.309 batting line with just one home run and one stolen base in 45 games this year. Perhaps he too should be sent to the minor leagues.

Hunter Strickland broke his right (pitching) hand when he punched a door after leaving Monday's game against the Marlins.

Strickland had just blown a save versus Miami, yielding three runs on three hits and two walks, but he made an ugly night even uglier. The 29-year-old right-hander will undergo surgery and is expected to miss the next 6-8 weeks. Giants manager Bruce Bochy mentioned Tony Watson and Sam Dyson as possible fill-ins at closer during a chat with the media on Tuesday. Watson, who holds a stingy 1.87 ERA and 40/6 K/BB ratio in 33 2/3 innings this season, would be our pick right now. Mark Melancon could eventually work his way into the mix too.
Jun 19 - 7:33 PM

Jose Altuve is out of the Astros' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Rays.

It looks to be a routine day of rest for the star second baseman, who went 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, and two runs scored in Monday's series opener versus Tampa Bay. Alex Bregman is at second base and Yuli Gurriel is playing third base on Tuesday, with Tyler White drawing a start at first base.
Jun 19 - 6:02 PM

Javier Baez (elbow) is starting at second base and batting second in the nightcap of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Dodgers.

Baez was a late sub into the early game, so it's no surprise that he is back in the starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Dodgers and left-hander Rich Hill. Baez took a pitch off his left elbow Sunday in the Cubs' series finale at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, but only suffered some minor bruising and swelling.
