Yankees claimed RHP Jim Miller off waivers from the Athletics.

Miller was just designated for assignment by the A's last week. The 30-year-old right-hander had a 2.59 ERA and 44/27 K/BB ratio over 48 2/3 innings this past season and could be in the mix for a bullpen spot during spring training.

Jose Bautista smashed a three-run homer off Yu Darvish to lead his club to a 3-1 victory over the Rangers on Saturday.

Coming to the plate with two out in the fifth inning with runners on first and third, Bautista smoked a hanging breaking ball from Darvish well over the wall in left field. It was all the offense the Blue Jays would need to win the game. Bautista was ice cold for the entire month of April, but has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball lately. For the season he has a .236 batting average with nine home runs and 26 RBI.

C.C. Sabathia picked up his fifth victory of the season on Saturday, striking out nine over 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball against the Athletics.

The veteran southpaw allowed six hits and three walks on the afternoon. All of the damage against him came late, with an RBI double from Ryon Healy in the sixth and a solo blast by Josh Phegley in the seventh. Now 5-2 on the season, Sabathia will carry a 4.42 ERA and 1.40 WHIP into Thursday's matchup against the Blue Jays in Toronto.

Mariners manager Scott Servais confirmed Saturday that James Paxton (forearm) will return from the disabled list to start against the Rockies on Wednesday.

That had been the target date all along and Paxton was able to avoid any setbacks in his recovery. The left-hander has been sidelined for nearly a month due to a strained forearm. Before landing on the shelf, he registered a 1.43 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 45/11 K/BB ratio in 37 2/3 innings across six starts.

Daniel Murphy is once again out of the Nationals' starting lineup on Saturday.

Acting manager Chris Speier indicated nothing was wrong physically on Friday, but it's a troubling sign that he's sitting out a second straight game. Wilmer Difo is starting in his place again and batting eighth for the Nationals on Saturday.
May 27 - 12:17 PM

J.D. Martinez is not in the Tigers' starting lineup for the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the White Sox.

He'll surely be back in there for the nightcap. JaCoby Jones is starting in his place in right field and batting eighth against Tyler Danish on Saturday afternoon.
May 27 - 12:14 PM

White Sox signed OF Luis Robert to a $26 million contract.

The White Sox will hold a press conference on Saturday to announce the signing. The 19-year-old is considered an elite-level talent and a terrific get for the White Sox.

Tigers placed 2B Ian Kinsler on the 10-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.

Kinsler has been playing through a minor hamstring injury, but apparently tweaked it again during Friday's game. Look for Andrew Romine and Dixon Machado to handle the bulk of the reps at second base in his absence.
May 27 - 11:43 AM

Bud Norris is considered day-to-day with soreness in his right knee.

The injury forced the veteran right-hander to leave Friday's game against the Marlins. It doesn't sound like he'll require a trip to the disabled list, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him held out through the rest of the weekend as a precautionary measure.
May 26 - 11:56 PM

Devon Travis had a monster day at the plate on Friday, going 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBI in a 7-6 victory over the Rangers.

Travis got the Blue Jays on the board with a grand slam off of A.J. Griffin in the second inning. He wound up finishing the night just a triple shy of the cycle. After a miserable start to the season, Travis' bat has heated up substantially in recent weeks and he's now hitting .252/.287/.439 with four homers, 19 RBI and four stolen bases on the season.

Jed Lowrie stayed hot in Friday’s win 4-1 win over the Yankees by going 3-for-4 with an RBI single.

Lowrie had two singles and a double. He broke a scoreless tie with a single off Tyler Clippard in the eighth. The 33-year-old has hit safely in seven straight games, including five multi-hit games. He’s batting .310/.376/.500 with six homers through 46 games on the year and deserves more attention in mixed fantasy leagues.
May 26 - 11:01 PM

Masahiro Tanaka struck out a career-high 13 batters Friday against the Athletics, but took the loss after allowing one run in 7 1/3 innings.

That’s more like it. Tanaka held the Athletics scoreless through seven innings before giving up a one-out single to Adam Rosales in the eighth. After Tyler Clippard entered the game, Rosales was eventually thrown out at home plate on a fielder's choice by Rajai Davis. Davis came around to score later in the inning though, charging a run to Tanaka and putting him on the hook for the loss. It was a tough luck situation, but the Yankees and fantasy owners should feel very good about this performance. Tanaka gave up just five hits in all while walking none and inducing 26 swings and misses in his 111 pitches. He’ll try to build off this one when he faces the Orioles on the road next week.
