Orioles acquired INF-OF Yamaico Navarro from the Pirates for RHP Jhondaniel Medina.

Navarro was designated for assignment on Wednesday to make room on the 40-man roster for Zach Stewart. The 24-year-old utility man batted .160/.232/.220 in 29 games for the Pirates in 2012.

Marlins acquired OF Jeff Francoeur from the Braves as part of a three-team trade.

Atlanta received minor league catcher Matthew Foley from the Marlins and infield prospect Dylan Moore from the Rangers, sending international bonus pool slot No. 93 to Texas in return. Miami gave up international bonus slots No. 37 and No. 97 to the Rangers. Got all that? Francoeur was batting just .249/.290/.381 with seven home runs and 33 RBI through 276 plate appearances this season for the Braves, but the Marlins were desperate for outfield help with Giancarlo Stanton (groin) ruled out for the remainder of the year. Francoeur figures to see semi-regular starts against left-handed pitching in Miami.

Marlins manager Don Mattingly said that Jose Fernandez suffered a cramp in Wednesday's game against the Royals.

Disaster seemingly averted for the Marlins. Fernandez grabbed his calf and limped off the field after striking out the final batter of the seventh inning, but Mattingly said after the game that it was only a cramp. The ace fireballer should be good to go next time he's scheduled to toe the rubber barring an unforeseen setback. Fernandez worked seven scoreless innings Wednesday night versus Kansas City, striking out nine.

Andrew Benintendi left Wednesday's game against the Rays with a left knee sprain.

Benintendi suffered the injury while attempting to get back to second base to avoid a tag in the seventh inning. He rolled over his left ankle, spraining his knee in the process, and needed to be helped off the field by the training staff. The Red Sox will reevaluate the young outfielder on Thursday, but this could easily end in a trip to the 15-day disabled list and perhaps something much worse.

Jay Bruce was lifted from Wednesday's game against the Cardinals due to a right calf cramp.

Bruce cramped up on a second-inning double and was subsequently pinch-run for by Alejandro De Aza. Cramps are rarely a sign of serious injury and the Mets' midseason acquisition should be back in the lineup without issue later this week.
Aug 24 - 9:16 PM

Gary Sanchez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-0 win over the Mariners.

Sanchez continues to simply destroy things, this time cracking a solo home run off Hisashi Iwakuma in the first inning. In just 72 at-bats, he has already launched nine long-balls. The 23-year-old backstop is slashing a stupendous .389/.450/.847 in that space. He was batting third on Wednesday and even if he cools off -- which will happen eventually, allegedly -- he should remain a fantasy difference-maker down the stretch.
Aug 24 - 9:02 PM

Nelson Cruz left Wednesday's game against the Yankees due to back spasms.

Cruz was pinch-hit for by Mike Zunino in the eighth inning of Wednesday's loss to the Yankees. This was just a precautionary move, though, and the slugger could return to the lineup on Thursday at the White Sox.

Masahiro Tanaka delivered seven shutout innings Wednesday in the Yankees' 5-0 blanking of the Mariners.

Tanaka scattered seven hits -- six singles, one double -- over his seven scoreless frames while striking out five and issuing just one walk. The third-inning walk to Seth Smith was Tanaka's first free pass in 34 innings this month. Tanaka, 27, now boasts an 11-4 record, 3.11 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and 142/28 K/BB ratio over 168 innings (26 starts) this season. He gets the Royals on the road next.
Aug 24 - 7:35 PM

Kendall Graveman fired 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball Wednesday in the Athletics' 5-1 win over the Indians.

Graveman was handed a 5-0 lead after the second inning and went into cruise control from there, scattering six hits and two walks over his six-plus frames while striking out two. The one run he gave up came on a Roberto Perez solo homer in the top of the seventh inning, which actually had to be reviewed. Graveman has been excellent now in two straight outings and boasts a 3.36 ERA over his last 18 starts. He'll try to keep it rolling next week in Houston.

Byung Ho Park will undergo season-ending surgery on his right wrist.

Park was diagnosed with tendinitis in his right wrist in mid-August, but according to the Twins, this surgery is actually being performed in an area on the wrist unrelated to the previous injury. He will be going under the knife to repair a subluxation of a tendon in the back of his hand. The procedure will sideline the 30-year-old for the remainder of the 2016 season. He struggled in his first taste of the majors, hitting .191/.275/.409 over 62 games with the Twins prior to being sent down to Triple-A Rochester in July.

Mets manager Terry Collins said that Jon Niese will undergo surgery on his left knee.

Niese was lifted from Tuesday's game against the Cardinals after he felt a noticeable pain in his left knee. The New York Times' James Wagner is reporting that this is expected to be a relatively minor procedure, one that should take about four weeks to recover from. Still, that will end his season. Robert Gsellman will fill Niese's rotation spot moving forward. Prior to the injury, Niese held a 5.50 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 121 innings between the Pirates and Mets.

Ryan Braun slugged a pair of home runs Wednesday in the Brewers' 7-1 rout of the Rockies.

That concludes a three-game sweep for the Brewers. Braun hit a solo shot off Rockies starter Tyler Anderson in the bottom of the fourth inning and then added a two-run bomb off Chad Qualls in the bottom of the seventh. He finished the day 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored and is now slashing .317/.380/.562 with 24 home runs, 74 RBI, 13 stolen bases, and 66 runs scored in 105 games this season. Pretty good stuff from the 32-year-old outfielder.
