Cubs non-tendered RHP Jaye Chapman.

Chapman was acquired from the Braves in the mid-season deal for Paul Maholm. He posted a 3.75 ERA and 12/10 K/BB ratio in 12 innings for the Cubs in 2012. While he has battled control problems in the past, he could still develop into a solid middle reliever.

Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) is out of the starting lineup again Tuesday against the Yankees.

Ramirez has now missed five straight starts due to a sore right shoulder. The Red Sox don't need to place him on the disabled list at this point in this season, but it's unclear when he'll be ready to play again. It's a tricky spot for fantasy owners.
Sep 1 - 3:10 PM

Braves recalled 3B Hector Olivera from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Olivera had been expected to debut for the Braves a week ago, but the team kept him in the minors for a few more days. Between the Braves and Dodgers' various minor league levels, he's hit to a .272/.326/.376 triple-slash with two homers and 10 RBI in 135 plate appearances. He figures to start regularly at third now that he's up with the big club. There's possible fantasy potential moving forward with the Cuban import, though it's difficult to gauge exactly how he will fare against tougher pitchers.
Sep 1 - 2:37 PM

Carlos Gonzalez is not in the starting lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Diamondbacks.

Brandon Barnes will start in right field. Look for CarGo to play in the nightcap.
Sep 1 - 1:25 PM

Cubs recalled INF Javier Baez from Triple-A Iowa.

Baez has batted .324/.385/.527 with 13 home runs, 61 RBI, and 17 steals over 70 games in Triple-A this season and has been especially hot of late. Strikeouts were a major issue for him during his time with the Cubs last year, but it looks like he could get the opportunity to take over the second base job. He's worth a try in most mixed fantasy leagues.
Sep 1 - 10:28 AM

Adrian Gonzalez sent the Dodgers home winners with a walk-off RBI single in the 14th inning against the Giants on Monday.

Gonzalez had the bases loaded with no outs against Yusmeiro Petit in the 14th, giving him numerous ways to win the game. He slapped a fly ball to deep left field to bring in the winning run. The first baseman finished 2-for-7. He also drilled a two-run home run off of Jake Peavy in the sixth inning. Gonzalez is batting .284/.355/.504 with 25 home runs and 78 RBI.
Sep 1 - 3:43 AM

Mark Canha went 1-for-3 with a home run and four RBI as the Athletics pounded their way to a win on Monday against the Angels.

Canha drilled a three-run homer in the sixth inning to push the Athletics' lead to 9-3. He added a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning. The first baseman has put up solid numbers on the season, batting .253/.306/.426 with 11 home runs and 54 RBI.
Sep 1 - 1:55 AM

Tyson Ross pitched brilliantly in Monday's win, shutting the Rangers out over seven innings.

Ross allowed only six base runners on three hits, two walks, and a hit batsman. It's only the second time Ross has been able to complete the seventh inning in his last 13 starts. He still has solid numbers though, owning a 3.27 ERA with a 1.35 WHIP and a 176/74 K/BB ratio over 165 innings. Ross will face the Dodgers at home next.
Sep 1 - 1:04 AM

Dodgers acquired OF Justin Ruggiano from the Mariners in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations; purchased his contract from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Ruggiano was removed from the Mariners' 40-man roster back in early June after batting just .214/.321/.357 over 81 plate appearances. He's hit .296/.385/.514 with 10 homers at Triple-A Tacoma and boasts a career .266/.331/.505 line in his career against lefties. He'll give the Dodgers some outfield depth with Yasiel Puig (hamstring) and Enrique Hernandez (hamstring) on the shelf.
Sep 1 - 12:32 AM

Ben Paulsen sent the Rockies home winners on Monday, hitting a two-run walk-off single in the ninth inning to down the Diamondbacks.

Paulsen pinch-hit for Matt McBride, prompting D'Backs manager Chip Hale to replace closer Brad Ziegler with lefty Matt Reynolds. Paulsen ripped a Reynolds offering up the middle to plate the tying and game-winning runs. The Rockies haven't had much to brag about, but Paulsen is having a solid year, batting .283/.333/.485 with 10 home runs and 44 RBI in 298 plate appearances.
Sep 1 - 12:14 AM

Giants acquired OF Alejandro De Aza and cash considerations from the Red Sox in exchange for LHP Luis Ysla.

San Francisco was seeking some outfield help with Hunter Pence's (oblique) recovery dragging on and they snuck a deal in just before the deadline. The Orioles gave up on De Aza after he hit just .214/.277/.359 over 30 games, but he rebounded in Boston with a .292/.347/.484 batting line, four homers and three steals over 60 contests. De Aza should be an active fourth outfielder in San Fran until Pence returns.
Sep 1 - 12:14 AM

Joey Votto reached base four times in Monday's win versus the Cubs, improving his second-half on-base percentage to .577.

Votto singled in one of his two official at-bats while drawing three walks (one intentional). He scored twice: after unintentionally walking in the first inning, and after singling in the fourth. Along with his .577 OBP, Votto is also batting .393 in the second half. On the season, the first baseman is hitting .312/.456/.553 with 25 home runs, 65 RBI, and 78 runs scored.
