FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Nationals and Dan Haren have agreed to a one-year, $13 million contract, pending a physical.

The physical isn't a slam dunk given recent concerns about his hip and back, but assuming he passes, he'll join a rotation which includes Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez, Jordan Zimmermann and Ross Detwiler. It's a pretty good spot for Haren, who gets to pitch in the easier league and wouldn't be expected to be the carry the load for the rotation. The signing figures to take away one potential suitor for free agent right-hander Zack Greinke.

Raisel Iglesias couldn't translate his 10 strikeouts into a win against the Brewers on Friday, as he allowed three runs on four hits over seven innings in the 5-0 defeat.

Iglesias struck out 10 Brewers and walked just two, but opposing starter Taylor Jungmann was just a tad bit better. Given that the Reds scored zero runs, Iglesias probably would have been stuck with a loss no matter what he did. He'll try to improve on his 3-6 record when he takes a 3.92 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 87/23 K/BB ratio (across 80 1/3 innings) into his next start, a Wednesday afternoon road outing against the Cubs.

Didi Gregorius posted a huge game in Friday's 15-4 win over the Braves, hitting a three-run homer and finishing with six total RBI.

Yowza yowza. Gregorius jumped into the action early with a three-run homer off Williams Perez in the first inning. He would add a two-run single in the second, then slouch off on the RBI binge until the eighth, when he hit an RBI single just for fun. When the dust settled, the Yankee shortstop had finished 4-for-5 with six RBI. This was his second four-hit game of the season and the six RBI represented a season high. For the year, he's slashing .260/.306/.355 with seven homers and 40 RBI.
Aug 28 - 11:39 PM

Brian McCann went 1-for-2 with a three-run homer, four total RBI and three walks in Friday's 15-4 demolition of the Braves.

McCann joined the party late, but he at least brought a nice bottle of wine in the form of a three-run homer in the eighth inning. By season's end, the catcher's numbers--across the board--should surpass what he did in 2014. It's very likely that he'll end up setting personal-bests for home runs (he's hit 24 twice) and RBI (he drove in 94 in 2009). Right now, he's slashing .247/.319/.477 with 23 homers and 83 RBI.
Aug 28 - 11:30 PM

Cole Hamels was magnificent in Friday's victory over the Orioles, racking up 10 strikeouts over eight innings of one-run ball.

Hamels allowed just two hits on the evening while walking four. The lone run against him came home on a bases loaded walk to Chris Davis in the third inning. It's his second straight victory with his new club, where he owns a 3.89 ERA and 33/13 K/BB ratio through 34 2/3 innings in his five starts. He'll look to extend his winning streak when he takes on the Padres in San Diego on Wednesday.
Aug 28 - 11:18 PM

Jung Ho Kang went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI as the Pirates topped the Rockies 5-3 on Friday.

Kang got the Bucs on the board with an RBI single in the first inning then extended their advantage with an RBI double in the third. What is turning out to be one of the best free agent acquisitions of the winter, Kang is hitting .294/.368/.463 with 12 homers and 48 RBI in what has been a fantastic rookie season.
Aug 28 - 10:39 PM

Aaron Nola was outstanding in Friday's victory over the Padres, scattering two hits and a pair of walks over seven innings of one-run ball.

Nola punched out six on the impressive evening. The only blemish on his night was a solo homer off the bat of Justin Upton in the fourth inning. It's the second straight brilliant outing for the young hurler who spun eight shutout innings against the Marlins his last time out. He'll look to further improve upon his 3.26 ERA and 1.07 WHIP when he takes on the Mets in New York on Wednesday.
Aug 28 - 10:19 PM

Trevor Bauer was superb in Friday's 3-1 win over the Angels, firing off eight innings of one-run ball.

Bauer struck out seven and walked three. Even after eight innings, he had only thrown 101 pitches--a sign either of Bauer's dominance or the free-swinging ways of the Angels. Only a Kaleb Cowart RBI single in the fifth prevented the shutout. While the 24-year-old right-hander isn't at the point where these types of outings are a possibility on a start-to-start basis, his 4.31 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 145/61 K/BB ratio across 150 2/3 innings are respectable enough. There's still room to grow for the youngster. Up next on the docket, a road start against the Blue Jays, which should act as a nice challenge.
Aug 28 - 9:51 PM

Giants placed RHP Matt Cain on the 15-day disabled list with nerve irritation in his right elbow.

Cain has struggled mightily since his return from the disabled list, posting a 6.15 ERA and 1.58 WHIP through his 10 starts, and the nerve issue could be partially to blame. Chris Heston will take his place in the Giants rotation and start on Sunday.
Aug 28 - 7:24 PM

Dodgers placed OF Yasiel Puig on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring.

Puig re-injured his hamstring during Thursday's game against the Reds. He has appeared in just 77 games in what has been an injury-plagued season. Jose Peraza was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.
Aug 28 - 7:19 PM

Chris Heston is expected to start on Sunday versus the Cardinals.

It had been the struggling Matt Cain's spot. Heston won't have spent the required 10 days in the minors by Sunday, so the Giants will have to create a phantom injury for someone (likely Cain). The righty was sent down a week ago as a means to cut down his workload, as he didn't make any appearances in the minors.
Aug 28 - 6:03 PM

George Springer (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Corpus Christi on Saturday.

"George is ready to go," Astros manager A.J. Hinch said Friday of Springer. "Today was one of the best days he's had." Springer is hoping to be activated by the Astros sometime next week if all goes well. He's been sidelined since early July with a fractured right wrist.
