According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Orioles are unlikely to make a serious push for Nick Swisher.

The O's re-signed Nate McLouth on Wednesday afternoon and no longer have such a big need for an outfielder. Swisher is also drawing interest from the Indians, Mariners, Red Sox and Giants. The 32-year-old hit .272/.364/.473 with 24 homers and 93 RBI in 148 games this past season for the Yankees.

Zack Cozart went 4-for-6 with a home run and two RBI in an extra-inning, 4-3 win over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

He started things off with an RBI single in the first inning and busted a solo home run in the third frame off starter Zack Greinke. The veteran shortstop has always been a wizard in the field but this is the first season he has excelled at the dish. He was the National League starter at shortstop in his first All Star game last week. He is a free agent at the end of this season and is a prime candidate to be traded before the end of the month. He is batting .321/.400/.566 with 11 home runs, 38 RBI and 45 runs scored in 70 games.

Gerrit Cole punched out 10 batters while allowing one run in seven innings as his club defeated the Brewers 3-2 in extra innings on Wednesday.

He didn't get the win but he certainly deserved one. The big right-hander gave up a run in the first inning, then marched through six scoreless frames before being relieved after tossing 103 pitches. He surrendered six hits and didn't walk a batter in the sterling effort. It was the third strong start in a row for Cole after he struggled through the month of June. His record holds at 7-7 with a 4.18 ERA in 20 starts. He has 108 strikeouts and 27 walks in 120 2/3 innings.

Kelvin Herrera was lifted from his ninth-inning appearance in Wednesday's appearance against the Tigers due to a possible injury.

Herrera left with the trainer, but not before surrendering a two-run homer to Mikie Mahtook to blow the save in the ninth. Whether his exit is due to an injury or something illness-related (Herrera was battling a fever on Tuesday) is unclear at this juncture. He will be reevaluated on Thursday.
Jul 19 - 11:30 PM

Jacob deGrom gave up just one run in 6 2/3 innings to earn a 7-3 victory over the Cardinals on Wednesday.

He rattled off six shutout innings before tiring in the seventh. He walked two batters in that frame and was relieved after throwing 110 pitches. Reliever Jerry Blevins promptly allowed both inherited runners to score. DeGrom improves to 11-3 with a 3.37 ERA in 19 starts. He has a splendid 144/40 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 125 2/3 innings. He lines up for a very attractive two-start week coming up, with road games against the Padres and Mariners on tap.

Following Wednesday's loss to the Red Sox, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons revealed that Aaron Sanchez was lifted due to a blister concern.

This would explain why Sanchez managed to pitch just four innings in the loss. He allowed five runs (three earned) in the short outing. The Blue Jays will reevaluate him on Thursday, but the disabled list could be looming again after already costing him about 10 weeks of the season due to a previous blister concern.

Pablo Sandoval told ESPN's Marly Rivera that he has not yet decided where he will sign following his release from the Red Sox.

MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez was reporting earlier on Wednesday that Sandoval -- who was just released by the Red Sox -- was set for a reunion with the Giants. That may well still happen, but he would not go so far as to confirm it when asked. Said the veteran third baseman, "I'm waiting for Friday to make a decision, and the Giants are one of my options. I have a few teams interested but I won't be making a decision until Friday."

Athletics signed 1B Chris Carter to a minor league contract.

The Rangers were also reportedly intrigued by Carter, who was released by the Yankees on July 10. The slugger struggled mightily during his time in the Bronx, hitting just .201/.284/.370 with eight homers in 208 plate appearances. He will report to Triple-A Nashville.

J.D. Martinez was lifted from Wednesday's game against the Reds with a left hand contusion.

Martinez got hit on the left hand by a pitch while attempting to check his swing during his second at-bat of the game -- and his second at-bat in a Diamondbacks uniform. X-rays came back negative. Martinez is considered day-to-day for now.
Jul 19 - 8:55 PM

Steven Souza was removed from Wednesday's loss to the A's due to a left hip strain.

Souza injured himself on a stolen base attempt in the first inning, after which he required assistance leaving the field. This could potentially result in trip to the disabled list. The outfielder will be reevaluated by the Rays' medical staff on Thursday.
Jul 19 - 7:36 PM

Charlie Blackmon exited Wednesday's win over the Padres due to cramping in his quad/hamstring.

Blackmon was pulled in the middle of his sixth-inning at-bat -- always an ominous sign -- but we can all breathe a sigh of relief, now, as after the game, manager Bud Black said that it was merely due to a cramping issue. Blackmon should be fine moving forward, though the Rockies could always give him a day or two off just to make sure.

Nolan Arenado went supernova in Wednesday's 18-4 win over the Padres, finishing 5-for-6 with three homers, seven RBI and four runs scored.

Arenado had himself a day in this one. He got things started with RBI singles in the first and second innings, then upped the ante with solo home runs in the fourth and fifth before finishing up in high style with a three-run home run in the sixth. This was Arenado's first career three-homer game, his first career five-hit game and set his career best with 14 total bases. Wow. Overall, the slugger is hitting .309/.356/.584 with 21 homers and 80 RBI across 94 games played. He is in the midst of a gem of a season.
