Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Rangers prefer to sign Zack Greinke and trade for Justin Upton, which would mean not re-signing Josh Hamilton.

The Rangers reportedly are willing to give Hamilton a four-year deal, but it sounds like they'd rather pay for a pitcher and acquire a hitter by dipping into their farm system. To this point, though, they've been unwilling to give the D'Backs what they want in a trade for Upton. They might need the rumored four-team deal to be revived.

Padres activated 1B/OF Wil Myers from the 60-day disabled list.

Myers will rejoin the Padres lineup immediately on Friday, batting sixth and starting at first base. He has been sidelined since June 13 following surgery on his left wrist. The 24-year-old is hitting .277/.327/.459 with five homers and 19 RBI in 35 games this season.
Sep 4 - 7:05 PM

Addison Russell clobbered a pair of home runs on Friday, leading the Cubs offense in a 14-5 rout over the Diamondbacks.

Russell swatted a solo home run off D'Backs starter Zack Godley in the second inning, increasing the Cubbies early lead to 4-0. He victimized him again in the fourth, this time a two-run homer, putting the Cubs ahead 6-1. He also drew a walk, finishing the afternoon 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI. The rookie shortstop is hitting .244/.303/.403 with 12 long balls and 41 RBI.
Sep 4 - 7:02 PM

Andrew McCutchen (Achilles) is back in the Pirates' lineup Friday.

McCutchen sat out Friday with some minor tightness in his Achilles. It's something to keep an eye on going forward, but he's expected to be alright.
Sep 4 - 5:56 PM

Brandon Crawford (calf) is back in the Giants' lineup Friday.

Crawford hasn't played since being hit in the left calf by a pitch Monday. This is just his second start in 10 days due to oblique and calf ailments.
Sep 4 - 5:53 PM

Pablo Sandoval was scratched from the Red Sox' lineup Friday due to mid-back tightness.

Sandoval had to cut his batting practice short when his back stiffened up on him. It's probably safe to call him day-to-day. Travis Shaw has replaced him at third base.
Sep 4 - 5:50 PM

Miguel Sano (hamstring) is back in the Twins' lineup Friday.

Sano has been dealing with a sore right hamstring of late and didn't play Thursday. He's in the designated hitter spot.
Sep 4 - 4:56 PM

Rockies activated 1B Justin Morneau from the 60-day disabled list.

It's cool to see Morneau make it back this season after battling more concussion issues as well as a neck injury for much of the year. The Rockies will surely be careful with him down the stretch, though. He's starting at first base Friday.
Sep 4 - 4:41 PM

Mike Moustakas (hamstring) remained out of the Royals' lineup Friday.

He's missed the last four contests with a strained hamstring but is expected back by Sunday. Cheslor Cuthbert is at third base again in Moustakas' place.
Sep 4 - 4:35 PM

Domonic Brown could be done for the season after being diagnosed with a concussion.

Brown suffered the injury when he flipped over an outfield side wall Wednesday. He'll have to follow Major League Baseball's concussion protocol before being cleared to action and it might be a long shot that we see him again this season. He's hit just .228/.284/.349 with five homers over 63 games with the Phillies this season.
Sep 4 - 4:24 PM

Jose Iglesias will undergo more tests after his ailing right middle finger swelled up on him overnight.

Iglesias was diagnosed with just a bruise on Thursday, but his finger feels worse a day later and that's obviously not a good sign. The Tigers should have more on the shortstop's status at some point over the weekend.
Sep 4 - 4:19 PM

CC Sabathia (knee) will be activated from the disabled to start on Wednesday versus the Orioles.

Sabathia threw a 60-pitch simulated game Friday and came out of it with no issues. The Yankees don't plan to remove anyone from the rotation, so it looks like they'll go with a six-man alignment down the stretch. Sabathia has missed the last couple weeks with an arthritic right knee.
